O Lord, another Daksha, son of the Prachetas, worshipped you, wishing to increase creation. Then you appeared with eight shining arms, granted him a boon and gave him Asikni as his wife.

O Lord, his sons, ten thousand and then a thousand more, took to your path on Narada’s advice. Daksha cursed the sage never to stay in one place, but Narada, the best of devotees, took it as a blessing.

Then through sixty daughters he created many families. His descendant Vishvarupa armoured Indra with a hymn to you and made him victorious in battle. O Lord, your glory conquers all.

Long ago in the land of Shurasena, King Chitraketu, longing for a son, was granted one son by the power of the sage Angiras. When the child was poisoned by his co-wives, the king was lost in grief through your Maya.

Then the kind Narada came with Angiras and showed the king his son’s soul. Hearing it ask, “Whose son am I?”, the king let go of his delusion, and Narada set him to worshipping you.

Receiving a hymn and a mantra from Narada, he did penance to please you in your form as Shesha. Within seven nights he became lord of the Vidyadharas, yet with an undimmed mind he kept on worshipping you.

Pleased by his praises, you soon appeared to him in your thousand-headed form, white as a lotus stalk, surrounded by siddhas singing hymns. You blessed him with knowledge of the Self and then vanished.

Then that crown of your devotees roamed the worlds happily for countless years, having lovely women sing your virtues, yet free of excessive attachment.

Surely prompted by you to end his last attachment, he went to Kailasa, the silver mountain, and in a great assembly mocked Shankara, the foe of Kama, for openly holding his beloved on his lap. Uma cursed him.

Unshaken, he did not even ask to be freed from the curse. Becoming the demon Vritra, he fought Indra, and in battle, through devotion and talk of the Self, he wonderfully cleared even his enemy’s confusion, and reached your abode.

Diti, though bent on killing Indra, worshipped you and instead gained the Maruts, who became Indra’s friends. Serving you brings good even to one with bad intent. You who are so, Lord of Guruvayur, protect me.
