So, Lord, having become the universe of fourteen worlds, you were born again above it, in Satyaloka, as Brahma the creator himself, whom they call Hiranyagarbha, the soul of all beings in the three worlds, full of the urge to create in many ways as abundant energy unfolded.

With his heart set on creating the universe, he looked around but found no knowledge of how, and stood troubled. Then you, Lord of the worlds, let him hear a voice from the sky, sweet to the ear, saying ‘Tapa, tapa’, urging him to practise austerity.

‘Who spoke to me?’ Looking in every direction over the world covered in water and seeing no one, he grasped the meaning of the words and practised austerity for a thousand divine years, worshipping you. And you showed him your own unique and wondrous home, Vaikuntha.

Where maya never brings change, shining beyond all the worlds, where grief, anger, delusion, fear and the like are far away, where streams of deep bliss flow, made of the light of the supreme radiance: victory to that abode of yours, Vaikuntha, Lord.

Where divine beings, four-armed, dark and radiant as sapphire, lighting up the directions with jewels and ornaments, living in splendid celestial mansions, who reached that high state through devotion, enjoy themselves: may that abode of yours, Vaikuntha, free of every impurity, be victorious.

Where Lakshmi herself is seen, surrounded by many divine maidens, lighting up every direction with her slender form like a streak of lightning, enchanting the world, longing only for the fragrance of your lotus feet: grant me that abode of yours, of wondrous divine splendour.

There, in the abode you showed him, Brahma saw your form seated on a jewelled throne, blazing with crown, bracelets and ornaments bright as a million suns, marked with the Shrivatsa, glowing red in the light of the Kaustubha gem, the cause of all the worlds. Lord, may that form shine for me.

Your form, filling the circle of directions with its soft glow like dark rain clouds and kalaya flowers, its face bright with a gentle, flowing smile, its splendid arms holding the shining conch, mace, discus and lotus, which delighted the creator: Lord, may it drive away my illness.

Seeing it, Brahma, filled with awe and overcome with joy, fell at your lotus feet, fulfilled by love, and said: ‘Lord, you know my wish; grant me knowledge of your true nature, beyond duality and non-duality.’ I worship you.

Then, touching the hand of Brahma as he bowed at your reddish feet, you said: ‘You will have knowledge, and the work of creation will not bind you.’ Having pleased him greatly with these words, you yourself, hidden in his mind, moved him to create. Lord, bring me back to health.
