Vrikabhrigumunimohinyambarishadivritteshvayi tava hi mahattvam sarvasharvadijaitram, sthitamiha paramatman nishkalarvagabhinnam kimapi yadavabhatam taddhi rupam tavaiva.

In the stories of Vrika, the sage Bhrigu, Mohini, Ambarisha and others, your greatness is shown to surpass all, Shiva included. O Supreme Self, whatever shines here, formless or with form and not separate from you, is truly your own form.

Murtitrayeshvarasadashivapanchakam yat prahuh paratmavapureva sadashivosmin, tatreshvarastu sa vikunthapadastvameva tritvam punarbhajasi satyapade tribhage.

They speak of five: the three forms, Ishvara and Sadashiva. Sadashiva is the very body of the Supreme Self; Ishvara, who dwells in Vaikuntha, is you; and you again take three forms in the three parts of Satyaloka.

Tatrapi sattvikatanum tava vishnumahurdhata tu sattvaviralo rajasaiva purnah, sattvotkatatvamapi chasti tamovikaracheshtadikam cha tava shankaranamni murtau.

Of these, your sattvic form is called Vishnu; Brahma has little sattva and is full of rajas; and your form called Shankara has much sattva but also traits and actions shaped by tamas.

Tam cha trimurtyatigatam parapurusham tvam sharvatmanapi khalu sarvamayatvahetoh, shamsantyupasanavidhau tadapi svatastu tvadrupamityatidridham bahu nah pramanam.

You are the Supreme Person beyond the three forms. Because you are in everything, in worship you are praised as Shiva as well; but in truth that too is your own form. We have firm and ample proof of this.

Shrishankaropi bhagavansakaleshu tavat tvameva manayati yo na hi pakshapati, tvannishthameva sa hi namasahasrakadi vyakhyadbhavatstutiparashcha gatim gatonte.

Even the revered Shankaracharya, who took no sides, honoured you above all. He wrote commentaries on works devoted to you, like the Thousand Names, and, ever intent on your praise, reached the goal at the end.

Murtitrayatigamuvacha cha mantrashastrasyadau kalayasushamam sakaleshvaram tvam, dhyanam cha nishkalamasau pranave khaluktva tvameva tatra sakalam nijagada nanyam.

At the start of his work on mantra, he described you as beyond the three forms, lord of all, lovely as a dark kalaya flower. And after describing meditation on the formless in Om, he named you alone, and no other, as its form.

In the Bhagavata, the Purana that holds the essence of all, it is your greatness alone that is described beyond doubt. Your abode, not that of the trident-bearer, is said to lie beyond the three parts of Satyaloka where the three forms dwell.

Yadbrahmakalpa iha bhagavatadvitiyaskandhoditam vapuranavritamisha dhatre, tasyaiva nama harisharvamukham jagada shrimadhavah shivaparopi puranasare.

O Lord, the unveiled form you showed Brahma in the Brahma age, told in the second book of the Bhagavata: to that very form Shri Madhava, though devoted to Shiva, gave names such as Hari and Sharva in his summary of the Puranas.

Ye svaprakrityanuguna girisham bhajante tesham phalam hi dridhayaiva tadiyabhaktya, vyaso hi tena kritavanadhikarihetoh skandadikeshu tava hanivachorthavadaih.

Those who, by their own nature, worship Girisha gain their reward through firm devotion to him. So, to suit such seekers, Vyasa placed in the Skanda and other Puranas words that seem to belittle you, meant only as encouragement.

Bhutarthakirtiranuvadaviruddhavadau tredharthavadagatayah khalu rochanarthah, skandadikeshu bahavotra viruddhavadastvattamasatvaparibhutyupashikshanadyah.

Such words of praise are of three kinds: telling real facts, restating, and contradicting, all meant to inspire interest. In the Skanda and other Puranas there are many contradicting statements, such as calling you tamasic or defeated, meant for teaching.

Yatkinchidapyavidushapi vibho mayoktam tanmantrashastravachanadyabhidrishtameva, vyasoktisaramayabhagavatopagita kleshanvidhuya kuru bhaktibharam paratman.

O Lord, whatever I, unlearned as I am, have said is found in the mantra scriptures and similar texts. You who are sung in the Bhagavata, the essence of Vyasa’s words, Supreme Self, shake off my troubles and fill me with devotion.
