Kantaka Gari Kamala Sama Padatala

Kontoko gari komolo-shomo podotol, monjiro chirohi jhanpi. Gagori-bari dhari kori pichhol, cholotohi onguli chapi.

Planting thorns, she walks on them with her lotus-soft soles; she wraps her anklets in cloth to muffle them. Pouring water from her pot to make the path slippery, she walks on tiptoe.

Madhobo, tuya obhisharoko lagi. Durotoro ponthho gomon dhoni shadhoye, mondire jamini jagi.

Madhava, all this is so she can come to meet you. The fair one practises walking the long, hard path, staying awake all night at home.

Korojuge noyono mudi cholu Bhamini, timiro-poyanoko ashe. Moni-kongkono-pono phoni-mukho-bondhon, shikhoi bhujogo-guru-pashe.

Covering her eyes with both hands, the lovely one walks, so she can learn to travel in the dark. Paying her jewelled bracelet as a fee, she learns from a snake-charmer how to bind a serpent’s mouth.

Gurujono-bochon bodhiro-shomo manoi, an shunoi koho an. Porijono-bochone mugodhi-shomo hashoi, Gobindodash poroman.

She treats her elders’ words as if she were deaf, hearing one thing and answering another. At her family’s words she smiles like a simple girl; Govindadas is witness to this.
