Ar Kaj Ki Amar Kashi

Ar kaj ki amar Kashi. Mayer podotole pore achhe Goya Gonga Baranoshi.

What need have I of Kashi? Gaya, the Ganga and Varanasi all lie at Mother’s feet.

Hritkomole dhyankale, anondoshagore bhashi. Ore Kalir pod-kokonod, tirtho rashi rashi.

When I meditate on her in the lotus of my heart, I float on an ocean of bliss. Kali’s red-lotus feet hold holy places beyond counting.

Kaliname pap kotha, matha nai tar mathabyatha. Ore onole dahon jotha, hoy re tularashi.

Where is sin before Kali’s name? With no head, how can there be a headache? Sin burns away like a heap of cotton in fire.

Goyay kore pindodan, bole pitririne pabe tran. Ore je kore Kalir dhyan, tar Goya shune hashi.

People make offerings to the ancestors at Gaya, saying it frees them from their debt to their forefathers. But one who meditates on Kali laughs to hear of Gaya.

Kashite molei mukti, e bote Shiber ukti. Ore shokoler mul bhokti, mukti tar dashi.

To die in Kashi is liberation; that is indeed Shiva’s word. But devotion is the root of everything, and liberation is its handmaid.

Nirbane ki achhe phol, jolete mishay jol. Ore chini howa bhalo noy mon, chini khete bhalobashi.

What is gained by nirvana? It is only water merging into water. Mind, it is no good to become sugar; I love to taste sugar.

Koutuke Proshad bole, korunanidhir bole. Ore choturborgo kortole, bhabile re Elokeshi.

Prasad says playfully, by the strength of the ocean of mercy: think of the Mother with flowing hair, and all four goals of life are in your palm.
