विश्वनाथ को सुमिर मन, धर गणेश का ध्यान।
भैरव चालीसा रचूँ, कृपा करहु भगवान॥Vishvanath ko sumir man, dhar Ganesh ka dhyan. Bhairav chalisa rachun, kripa karahu Bhagvan.
Remembering Vishvanath and meditating on Ganesh, I compose this Bhairav Chalisa; Lord, bless me.
मन में विश्वनाथ का स्मरण और गणेश जी का ध्यान करके मैं भैरव चालीसा रचता हूँ; हे भगवान, कृपा करो।

बटुकनाथ भैरव भजूँ, श्री काली के लाल।
छीतरमल पर कर कृपा, काशी के कुतवाल॥Batuknath Bhairav bhajun, Shri Kali ke laal. Chheetarmal par kar kripa, Kashi ke Kutval.
I worship Batuknath Bhairav, beloved son of Kali. Guardian of Kashi, be gracious to Chhitarmal, the poet.
मैं श्री काली के लाल बटुकनाथ भैरव को भजता हूँ। हे काशी के कोतवाल, कवि छीतरमल पर कृपा करो।

जय जय श्रीकाली के लाला।
रहो दास पर सदा दयाला॥Jai jai Shri Kali ke lala. Raho daas par sada dayala.
Victory, victory to Kali’s beloved son. Be ever kind to your servant.
श्री काली के लाल की जय हो, जय हो। अपने दास पर सदा दयालु रहो।

भैरव भीषण भीम कपाली।
क्रोधवन्त लोचन में लाली॥Bhairav bheeshan Bheem Kapali. Krodhvant lochan mein laali.
Bhairav, dreadful and mighty, bearer of the skull: your angry eyes are red.
हे भैरव, आप भीषण, विशाल और कपाल धारण करने वाले हैं; क्रोध से आपकी आँखें लाल हैं।

कर त्रिशूल है कठिन कराला।
गल में प्रभु मुण्डन की माला॥Kar trishool hai kathin karala. Gal mein Prabhu mundan ki mala.
In your hand is a hard, fearsome trident, and around your neck, Lord, hangs a garland of skulls.
हाथ में कठोर और विकराल त्रिशूल है, और प्रभु के गले में मुंडों की माला है।

कृष्ण रूप तन वर्ण विशाला।
पीकर मद रहता मतवाला॥Krishna roop tan varn vishala. Peekar mad rahta matvala.
Your body is dark and huge, and you stay intoxicated on wine.
आपका शरीर काले रंग का और विशाल है; मदिरा पीकर आप मस्त रहते हैं।

रुद्र बटुक भक्तन के संगी।
प्रेत नाथ भूतेश भुजंगी॥Rudra Batuk bhaktan ke sangi. Pret Nath Bhootesh bhujangi.
Rudra in child form, companion of devotees; lord of ghosts and spirits, adorned with serpents.
बाल रूप रुद्र बटुक भक्तों के साथी हैं; आप प्रेतों और भूतों के स्वामी और सर्पधारी हैं।

त्रैलतेश है नाम तुम्हारा।
चक्र तुण्ड अमरेश पियारा॥Trailatesh hai naam tumhara. Chakra Tund Amresh piyara.
Trailatesh is your name; you are also Chakratunda and the beloved Amaresh.
त्रैलतेश आपका नाम है; आप चक्रतुंड और प्यारे अमरेश भी हैं।

शेखरचंद्र कपाल बिराजे।
स्वान सवारी पै प्रभु गाजे॥Shekharchandra kapal biraje. Svan savari pai Prabhu gaje.
The moon shines as a crest on your brow, and the Lord roars, riding a dog.
आपके मस्तक पर चंद्रमा सुशोभित है; प्रभु कुत्ते की सवारी पर गरजते हैं।

शिव नकुलेश चण्ड हो स्वामी।
बैजनाथ प्रभु नमो नमामी॥Shiv Nakulesh Chand ho Swami. Baijnath Prabhu namo namami.
You are Shiva, Nakulesh and Chanda, the Master; Lord Baijnath, I bow to you again and again.
आप शिव, नकुलेश और चंड स्वामी हैं; हे प्रभु बैजनाथ, आपको बार-बार नमन।

अश्वनाथ क्रोधेश बखाने।
भैरों काल जगत ने जाने॥Ashvanath Krodhesh bakhane. Bhairon Kaal jagat ne jane.
You are praised as Ashvanath and Krodhesh, lord of wrath; the world knows you as Bhairon and Kala.
आपको अश्वनाथ और क्रोधेश कहा जाता है; जगत आपको भैरों और काल के रूप में जानता है।

गायत्री कहैं निमिष दिगम्बर।
जगन्नाथ उन्नत आडम्बर॥Gayatri kahain Nimish Digambar. Jagannath unnat aadambar.
The Gayatri calls you Nimisha and Digambar, the sky-clad; you are Jagannath, of lofty splendour.
गायत्री आपको निमिष और दिगम्बर कहती है; आप ऊँचे वैभव वाले जगन्नाथ हैं।

क्षेत्रपाल दसपाण कहाये।
मंजुल उमानन्द कहलाये॥Kshetrapal Daspan kahaye. Manjul Umanand kahlaye.
You are called Kshetrapal, guardian of the land, and Dashapani; you are also the charming Umananda, Uma’s delight.
आप क्षेत्रपाल और दसपाण कहलाते हैं; आप मनोहर उमानंद भी कहलाते हैं।

चक्रनाथ भक्तन हितकारी।
कहैं त्र्यम्बक सब नर नारी॥Chakranath bhaktan hitkari. Kahain Tryambak sab nar nari.
Chakranath, you do good to your devotees; all men and women call you Tryambaka, the three-eyed.
चक्रनाथ भक्तों का हित करने वाले हैं; सब नर-नारी आपको त्र्यम्बक कहते हैं।

संहारक सुनन्द तव नामा।
करहु भक्त के पूरण कामा॥Sanharak Sunand tav nama. Karahu bhakt ke pooran kama.
Samharaka, the destroyer, and Sunanda are your names; fulfil your devotee’s wishes.
संहारक और सुनंद आपके नाम हैं; अपने भक्त की कामनाएँ पूरी करो।

नाथ पिशाचन के हो प्यारे।
संकट मेटहु सकल हमारे॥Naath pishachan ke ho pyare. Sankat metahu sakal hamare.
Beloved lord of the spirits, remove all our troubles.
आप पिशाचों के प्यारे स्वामी हैं; हमारे सब संकट मिटा दो।

कृत्यायु सुन्दर आनन्दा।
भक्त जनन के काटहु फन्दा॥Krityayu Sundar Ananda. Bhakt janan ke katahu phanda.
Krityayu, Sundar, Ananda: cut the snares that bind your devotees.
हे कृत्यायु, सुंदर, आनंद, अपने भक्तों के फंदे काट दो।

कारण लम्ब आप भय भंजन।
नमो नाथ जय जनमन रंजन॥Karan Lamb aap bhay bhanjan. Namo naath jai janman ranjan.
Karana and Lamba, you shatter fear. I bow to you, Lord; victory to you who delight people’s hearts.
कारण और लंब नाम वाले आप भय का नाश करते हैं। हे नाथ, नमन; लोगों के मन को आनंद देने वाले, आपकी जय हो।

हो तुम देव त्रिलोचन नाथा।
भक्त चरण में नावत माथा॥Ho tum Dev Trilochan Natha. Bhakt charan mein naavat matha.
You are the three-eyed Lord; your devotees bow their heads at your feet.
आप तीन नेत्रों वाले देव और नाथ हैं; भक्त आपके चरणों में माथा नवाते हैं।

त्वं अष्टांग रुद्र के लाला।
महाकाल कालों के काला॥Tvam ashtang Rudra ke lala. Mahakal kalon ke kala.
You are Rudra’s son of eight forms, Mahakala, death even to death.
आप रुद्र के आठ रूपों वाले लाल हैं, महाकाल और काल के भी काल हैं।

ताप विमोचन अरि दल नासा।
भाल चन्द्रमा करहि प्रकाशा॥Taap vimochan ari dal nasa. Bhaal chandrama karahi prakasha.
You free us from suffering and destroy the enemy hosts; the moon shines on your forehead.
आप दुःख-ताप से छुड़ाने वाले और शत्रु-दल का नाश करने वाले हैं; आपके माथे पर चंद्रमा प्रकाश करता है।

श्वेत काल अरु लाल शरीरा।
मस्तक मुकुट शीश पर चीरा॥Shvet kaal aru laal sharira. Mastak mukut sheesh par cheera.
Your forms are white, black and red; you wear a crown and a turban on your head.
आपके रूप सफेद, काले और लाल हैं; मस्तक पर मुकुट और सिर पर चीरा (पगड़ी) है।

काली के लाला बलधारी।
कहाँ तक शोभा कहूँ तुम्हारी॥Kali ke lala baldhari. Kahan tak shobha kahun tumhari.
Mighty son of Kali, how far can I describe your splendour?
हे काली के बलशाली लाल, आपकी शोभा का कहाँ तक वर्णन करूँ?

शंकर के अवतार कृपाला।
रहो चकाचक पी मद प्याला॥Shankar ke avtar kripala. Raho chakachak pee mad pyala.
Kind incarnation of Shankar, you stay in high spirits after drinking your cup of wine.
हे शंकर के कृपालु अवतार, आप मदिरा का प्याला पीकर मस्त रहते हैं।

काशी के कुतवाल कहाओ।
बटुक नाथ चेटक दिखलाओ॥Kashi ke Kutval kahao. Batuk Nath chetak dikhlao.
You are called the guardian of Kashi; Batuk Nath, show us your wonders.
आप काशी के कोतवाल कहलाते हैं; हे बटुकनाथ, अपने चमत्कार दिखाओ।

रवि के दिन जन भोग लगावें।
धूप दीप नैवेद्य चढ़ावें॥Ravi ke din jan bhog lagaven. Dhoop deep naivedya chadhaven.
On Sundays people make offerings to you of incense, lamps and food.
रविवार को लोग आपको भोग लगाते हैं और धूप, दीप व नैवेद्य चढ़ाते हैं।

दरशन करके भक्त सिहावें।
दारुड़ा की धार पिलावें॥Darshan karke bhakt sihaven. Daruda ki dhaar pilaven.
Devotees rejoice at seeing you and pour you a stream of liquor.
दर्शन करके भक्त प्रसन्न होते हैं और आपको मदिरा की धार पिलाते हैं।

मठ में सुन्दर लटकत झावा।
सिद्ध कार्य कर भैरों बाबा॥Math mein sundar latkat jhaava. Siddh karya kar Bhairon Baba.
Beautiful hangings sway in your shrine; Bhairon Baba, make our work succeed.
मठ में सुंदर सजावट लटकती है; हे भैरों बाबा, हमारे कार्य सिद्ध करो।

नाथ आपका यश नहीं थोड़ा।
कर में सुभग सुशोभित कोड़ा॥Naath aapka yash nahin thoda. Kar mein subhag sushobhit koda.
Lord, your glory is great; a fine whip shines in your hand.
हे नाथ, आपका यश थोड़ा नहीं है; आपके हाथ में सुंदर कोड़ा सुशोभित है।

कटि घूँघरा सुरीले बाजत।
कंचनमय सिंहासन राजत॥Kati ghunghra surile baajat. Kanchanmay sinhasan raajat.
Bells at your waist ring sweetly, and you sit on a golden throne.
कमर में घुँघरू सुरीले बजते हैं और आप सोने के सिंहासन पर विराजते हैं।

नर नारी सब तुमको ध्यावहिं।
मनवांछित इच्छाफल पावहिं॥Nar nari sab tumko dhyavahin. Manvanchhit ichchhaphal paavahin.
All men and women meditate on you and receive what their hearts desire.
सब नर-नारी आपका ध्यान करते हैं और मनचाहा फल पाते हैं।

भोपा हैं आपके पुजारी।
करें आरती सेवा भारी॥Bhopa hain aapke pujari. Karen aarti seva bhaari.
The Bhopas are your priests; they perform your aarti and serve you devotedly.
भोपा आपके पुजारी हैं, जो आरती करते हैं और खूब सेवा करते हैं।

भैरव भात आपका गाऊँ।
बार बार पद शीश नवाऊँ॥Bhairav bhaat aapka gaun. Baar baar pad sheesh navaun.
Bhairav, I sing the story of your bhaat, the wedding gifts a brother brings, and bow my head at your feet again and again.
हे भैरव, मैं आपके भात (विवाह में भाई द्वारा दिया उपहार) की कथा गाता हूँ और बार-बार आपके चरणों में सिर नवाता हूँ।

आपहि वारे छीजन धाये।
ऐलादी ने रुदन मचाये॥Aapahi vaare chheejan dhaaye. Ailadi ne rudan machaye.
When hardship came upon her, Ailadi wept and cried out to you.
जब उस पर दुःख आया, तब ऐलादी रो-रोकर आपको पुकारने लगी।

बहन त्यागि भाई कहाँ जावे।
तो बिन को मोहि भात पिन्हावे॥Bahan tyagi bhai kahan jaave. To bin ko mohi bhaat pinhave.
Where will a brother go, leaving his sister? Without you, who will bring my wedding gifts?
बहन को छोड़कर भाई कहाँ जाएगा? तुम्हारे बिना मुझे भात कौन पहनाएगा?

रोये बटुक नाथ करुणा कर।
गये हिवारे मैं तुम जाकर॥Roye Batuk Nath karuna kar. Gaye Hivare main tum jaakar.
Batuk Nath was moved to tears with compassion, and you set out for Hivara.
करुणा से भरकर बटुकनाथ रो पड़े और आप हिवारे की ओर गए।

दुखित भई ऐलादी बाला।
तब हर का सिंहासन हाला॥Dukhit bhai Ailadi bala. Tab Har ka sinhasan haala.
When young Ailadi grieved, even Shiva’s throne shook.
जब बाला ऐलादी दुखी हुई, तब शिव का सिंहासन भी हिल गया।

समय ब्याह का जिस दिन आया।
प्रभु ने तुमको तुरत पठाया॥Samay byaah ka jis din aaya. Prabhu ne tumko turat pathaya.
On the day the wedding came, the Lord sent you at once.
जिस दिन विवाह का समय आया, प्रभु ने तुरंत आपको भेजा।

विष्णु कही मत विलम्ब लगाओ।
तीन दिवस को भैरव जाओ॥Vishnu kahi mat vilamb lagao. Teen divas ko Bhairav jao.
Vishnu said: don’t delay, Bhairav, go for three days.
विष्णु ने कहा: देर मत करो, हे भैरव, तीन दिन के लिए जाओ।

दल पठान संग लेकर धाया।
ऐलादी को भात पिन्हाया॥Dal Pathan sang lekar dhaya. Ailadi ko bhaat pinhaya.
You rushed there with a band of Pathans and gave Ailadi her wedding gifts.
आप पठानों का दल साथ लेकर दौड़े और ऐलादी को भात पहनाया।

पूरन आस बहन की कीनी।
सुर्ख चुन्दरी सिर धर दीनी॥Pooran aas bahan ki keeni. Surkh chundari sir dhar deeni.
You fulfilled your sister’s hopes and placed a bright red veil on her head.
आपने बहन की आशा पूरी की और उसके सिर पर लाल चुनरी ओढ़ा दी।

भात भरा लौटे गुण ग्रामी।
नमो नमामी अन्तर्यामी॥Bhaat bhara laute gun grami. Namo namami Antaryami.
Having given the gifts, the treasury of virtues returned. I bow again and again to you who know every heart.
भात भरकर गुणों के भंडार प्रभु लौट आए। हे अंतर्यामी, आपको बार-बार नमन।

जय जय जय भैरव बटुक, स्वामी संकट टार।
कृपा दास पर कीजिए, शंकर के अवतार॥Jai jai jai Bhairav Batuk, Swami sankat taar. Kripa daas par keejiye, Shankar ke avtar.
Victory, victory, victory to Batuk Bhairav! Master, ward off our troubles. Incarnation of Shankar, be gracious to your servant.
बटुक भैरव की जय हो, जय हो, जय हो! हे स्वामी, संकट टालो। हे शंकर के अवतार, दास पर कृपा कीजिए।

जो यह चालीसा पढ़ै, प्रेम सहित सत बार।
उस घर सर्वानन्द हों, वैभव बढ़ें अपार॥Jo yah chalisa padhai, prem sahit sat baar. Us ghar sarvanand hon, vaibhav badhen apaar.
Whoever reads this Chalisa with love a hundred times will have every joy in their home and boundless prosperity.
जो यह चालीसा प्रेम सहित सौ बार पढ़ता है, उस घर में सब आनंद होते हैं और अपार वैभव बढ़ता है।
