श्री गणपति गुरु गौरी पद, प्रेम सहित धरि माथ।
चालीसा वन्दन करौं, श्री शिव भैरवनाथ॥Shri Ganpati guru Gauri pad, prem sahit dhari maath. Chalisa vandan karaun, Shri Shiv Bhairavnath.
Lovingly placing my head at the feet of Ganesha, my guru and Gauri, I offer this Chalisa in praise of Shiva as Lord Bhairav.
श्री गणपति, गुरु और गौरी के चरणों में प्रेम से सिर रखकर मैं श्री शिव भैरवनाथ की चालीसा से वंदना करता हूँ।

श्री भैरव संकट हरण, मंगल करण कृपाल।
श्याम वरण विकराल वपु, लोचन लाल विशाल॥Shri Bhairav sankat haran, mangal karan kripal. Shyam varan vikral vapu, lochan lal vishal.
Shri Bhairav removes troubles; the merciful one brings blessings. His body is dark and fearsome, his eyes large and red.
श्री भैरव संकट हरने वाले और मंगल करने वाले कृपालु हैं। उनका शरीर साँवला और विकराल है, आँखें बड़ी और लाल हैं।

जय जय श्री काली के लाला।
जयति जयति काशी कुतवाला॥Jai jai Shri Kali ke lala. Jayati jayati Kashi kutvala.
Victory, victory to Kali’s beloved son. Victory, victory to the guardian of Kashi.
श्री काली के लाल की जय हो, जय हो। काशी के कोतवाल की जय हो, जय हो।

जयति बटुक भैरव भय हारी।
जयति काल भैरव बलकारी॥Jayati Batuk Bhairav bhay hari. Jayati Kaal Bhairav balkari.
Victory to Batuk Bhairav, the child form who takes away fear. Victory to Kaal Bhairav, who gives strength.
भय हरने वाले बटुक भैरव की जय हो। बल देने वाले काल भैरव की जय हो।

जयति नाथ भैरव विख्याता।
जयति सर्व भैरव सुखदाता॥Jayati Nath Bhairav vikhyata. Jayati Sarv Bhairav sukhdata.
Victory to the renowned Lord Bhairav. Victory to all the forms of Bhairav, givers of happiness.
विख्यात नाथ भैरव की जय हो। सुख देने वाले सब भैरवों की जय हो।

भैरव रूप कियो शिव धारण।
भव के भार उतारण कारण॥Bhairav roop kiyo Shiv dharan. Bhav ke bhaar utaran karan.
Shiva took the form of Bhairav to lift the burden of the world.
संसार का भार उतारने के लिए शिव ने भैरव रूप धारण किया।

भैरव रव सुनि ह्वै भय दूरी।
सब विधि होय कामना पूरी॥Bhairav rav suni hvai bhay doori. Sab vidhi hoy kamna poori.
Hearing Bhairav’s roar, fear goes away and every wish is fulfilled.
भैरव की गर्जना सुनकर भय दूर हो जाता है और हर तरह से कामना पूरी होती है।

शेष महेश आदि गुण गायो।
काशी कोतवाल कहलायो॥Shesh Mahesh aadi gun gayo. Kashi kotval kahlayo.
Shesha, Shiva and others have sung your virtues, and you are called the guardian of Kashi.
शेषनाग, महेश आदि ने आपके गुण गाए, और आप काशी के कोतवाल कहलाए।

जटा जूट शिर चंद्र विराजत।
बाला मुकुट बिजायठ साजत॥Jata joot shir chandra virajat. Bala mukut bijayath sajat.
The moon shines on your matted hair, and you are adorned with earrings, a crown and armlets.
जटाओं वाले सिर पर चंद्रमा विराजता है, और बाली, मुकुट व बाजूबंद शोभा देते हैं।

कटि करधनी घुँघरू बाजत।
दर्शन करत सकल भय भाजत॥Kati kardhani ghunghru bajat. Darshan karat sakal bhay bhajat.
Bells jingle on the belt at your waist, and the sight of you makes every fear run away.
कमर की करधनी में घुँघरू बजते हैं; आपके दर्शन करते ही सारे भय भाग जाते हैं।

जीवन दान दास को दीन्ह्यो।
कीन्ह्यो कृपा नाथ तब चीन्ह्यो॥Jeevan dan das ko deenhyo. Keenhyo kripa nath tab cheenhyo.
You gave your servant the gift of life; Lord, when you showed your grace, I came to know you.
आपने अपने दास को जीवन-दान दिया; हे नाथ, आपने कृपा की, तब मैंने आपको पहचाना।

वसि रसना बनि सारद काली।
दीन्ह्यो वर राख्यो मम लाली॥Vasi rasna bani Sarad Kali. Deenhyo var rakhyo mam lali.
Dwelling on my tongue as Saraswati and Kali, you gave me a boon and protected my honour.
आपने मेरी जीभ पर सरस्वती और काली बनकर वास किया, वर दिया और मेरी लाज रखी।

धन्य धन्य भैरव भय भंजन।
जय मनरंजन खल दल भंजन॥Dhanya dhanya Bhairav bhay bhanjan. Jai manranjan khal dal bhanjan.
Blessed, blessed is Bhairav, breaker of fear. Victory to the delight of the heart, who crushes the hordes of the wicked.
भय का नाश करने वाले भैरव धन्य हैं, धन्य हैं। मन को आनंद देने वाले और दुष्टों के दल को तोड़ने वाले की जय हो।

कर त्रिशूल डमरू शुचि कोड़ा।
कृपा कटाक्ष सुयश नहिं थोड़ा॥Kar trishool damru shuchi koda. Kripa kataksh suyash nahin thoda.
In your hands are the trident, the damru drum and a sacred whip. Your kind glance is generous, and your fame is no small thing.
आपके हाथों में त्रिशूल, डमरू और पवित्र कोड़ा है। आपकी कृपा-दृष्टि महान है और आपका सुयश कम नहीं।

जो भैरव निर्भय गुण गावत।
अष्टसिद्धि नव निधि फल पावत॥Jo Bhairav nirbhay gun gavat. Ashtasiddhi nav nidhi phal pavat.
Whoever fearlessly sings Bhairav’s virtues gains the eight powers and the nine treasures.
जो निर्भय होकर भैरव के गुण गाता है, वह आठ सिद्धियाँ और नौ निधियाँ पाता है।

रूप विशाल कठिन दुख मोचन।
क्रोध कराल लाल दुहुँ लोचन॥Roop vishal kathin dukh mochan. Krodh karal lal duhun lochan.
Your form is vast and frees us from hard suffering; your anger is terrible and both your eyes are red.
आपका विशाल रूप कठिन दुखों से छुड़ाता है; आपका क्रोध भयंकर है और दोनों आँखें लाल हैं।

अगणित भूत प्रेत संग डोलत।
बम बम बम शिव बम बम बोलत॥Aganit bhoot pret sang dolat. Bam bam bam Shiv bam bam bolat.
Countless ghosts and spirits roam with you, chanting “Bam bam bam, Shiva, bam bam.”
अनगिनत भूत-प्रेत आपके साथ घूमते हैं और “बम बम बम, शिव बम बम” बोलते हैं।

रुद्रकाय काली के लाला।
महा कालहू के हो काला॥Rudrakay Kali ke lala. Maha kaalahu ke ho kala.
Fierce-bodied son of Kali, you are death even to great Death.
रौद्र शरीर वाले, काली के लाल, आप महाकाल के भी काल हैं।

बटुक नाथ हो काल गँभीरा।
श्वेत रक्त अरु श्याम शरीरा॥Batuk nath ho kaal gambhira. Shvet rakt aru shyam sharira.
You are Batuk Nath and the grave Kaal Bhairav, with bodies white, red and dark.
आप बटुकनाथ हैं और गंभीर काल भैरव भी; आपके श्वेत, लाल और श्याम शरीर हैं।

करत तीनहूँ रूप प्रकाशा।
भरत सुभक्तन कहँ शुभ आशा॥Karat teenahun roop prakasha. Bharat subhaktan kahan shubh aasha.
You reveal yourself in all three forms and fill your true devotees with good hope.
आप तीनों रूपों में प्रकट होते हैं और सच्चे भक्तों में शुभ आशा भरते हैं।

रत्न जड़ित कंचन सिंहासन।
व्याघ्र चर्म शुचि नर्म सुआनन॥Ratna jadit kanchan sinhasan. Vyaghra charm shuchi narm suaanan.
You sit on a jewelled golden throne, on a clean, soft tiger skin, with a lovely face.
आप रत्न-जड़ित सोने के सिंहासन पर, पवित्र और कोमल बाघंबर पर विराजते हैं; आपका मुख सुंदर है।

तुमहि जाइ काशिहिं जन ध्यावहिं।
विश्वनाथ कहँ दर्शन पावहिं॥Tumahi jai Kashihin jan dhyavahin. Vishvanath kahan darshan pavahin.
People go to Kashi and meditate on you, and only then receive the sight of Vishvanath.
लोग काशी जाकर आपका ध्यान करते हैं, तभी विश्वनाथ के दर्शन पाते हैं।

जय प्रभु संहारक सुनन्द जय।
जय उन्नत हर उमा नन्द जय॥Jai prabhu sanharak Sunand jai. Jai unnat Har Uma nand jai.
Victory to the Lord, the destroyer, victory to Sunanda. Victory to the exalted one, to Shiva, to Uma’s son.
संहारक प्रभु की जय, सुनंद की जय। उन्नत, हर और उमा-नंदन की जय।

भीम त्रिलोचन स्वान साथ जय।
वैजनाथ श्री जगतनाथ जय॥Bheem Trilochan svan sath jai. Vaijnath Shri Jagatnath jai.
Victory to the mighty three-eyed one who keeps a dog by his side. Victory to Vaidyanath, lord of the world.
कुत्ते को साथ रखने वाले भीम त्रिलोचन की जय। वैद्यनाथ और श्री जगन्नाथ की जय।

महा भीम भीषण शरीर जय।
रुद्र त्र्यम्बक धीर वीर जय॥Maha bheem bheeshan sharir jai. Rudra Tryambak dheer veer jai.
Victory to the mighty one of fearsome body. Victory to Rudra, the three-eyed, the steady hero.
महाभीम, भीषण शरीर वाले की जय। रुद्र, त्र्यंबक, धीर-वीर की जय।

अश्वनाथ जय प्रेतनाथ जय।
स्वानारूढ़ सयचंद्र नाथ जय॥Ashvanath jai Pretnath jai. Svanaroodh Saychandra nath jai.
Victory to the lord of horses, victory to the lord of spirits. Victory to the lord who rides a dog and wears the moon.
अश्वनाथ की जय, प्रेतनाथ की जय। कुत्ते पर सवार, चंद्रधारी नाथ की जय।

निमिष दिगंबर चक्रनाथ जय।
गहत अनाथन नाथ हाथ जय॥Nimish Digambar Chakranath jai. Gahat anathan nath haath jai.
Victory to Digambara, clothed by the sky, lord of the wheel. Victory to the Lord who takes the hand of the helpless.
दिगंबर चक्रनाथ की जय। अनाथों का हाथ थामने वाले नाथ की जय।

त्रेशलेश भूतेश चंद्र जय।
क्रोध वत्स अमरेश नन्द जय॥Treshlesh Bhootesh Chandra jai. Krodh vats Amresh nand jai.
Victory to the lord of spirits who bears the moon. Victory to the wrathful one, the beloved son of the lord of the immortals.
भूतों के स्वामी, चंद्रधारी की जय। क्रोधमय, अमरों के स्वामी के प्रिय पुत्र की जय।

श्री वामन नकुलेश चण्ड जय।
कृत्याऊ कीरति प्रचण्ड जय॥Shri Vaman Nakulesh Chand jai. Krityau keerati prachand jai.
Victory to Vamana, Nakulesha and fierce Chanda. Victory to the one of mighty fame.
श्री वामन, नकुलेश और चंड की जय। प्रचंड कीर्ति वाले की जय।

रुद्र बटुक क्रोधेश कालधर।
चक्र तुण्ड दश पाणि व्यालधर॥Rudra Batuk Krodhesh Kaaldhar. Chakra tund dash pani vyaldhar.
You are Rudra, Batuk, lord of wrath and holder of time, ten-armed, bearing a discus and wearing serpents.
आप रुद्र, बटुक, क्रोधेश और कालधारी हैं; दस भुजाओं में चक्र लिए और सर्प धारण किए हैं।

करि मद पान शम्भु गुण गावत।
चौंसठ योगिन संग नचावत॥Kari mad paan Shambhu gun gavat. Chaunsath yogin sang nachavat.
Intoxicated, you sing Shiva’s praises and dance with the sixty-four yoginis.
मद का पान करके आप शंभु के गुण गाते हैं और चौंसठ योगिनियों के साथ नाचते हैं।

करत कृपा जन पर बहु ढंगा।
काशी कोतवाल अड़बंगा॥Karat kripa jan par bahu dhanga. Kashi kotval adbanga.
The carefree, unconventional guardian of Kashi shows his devotees grace in many ways.
काशी के अनोखे, मस्त-मौला कोतवाल भक्तों पर अनेक तरह से कृपा करते हैं।

देयँ काल भैरव जब सोटा।
नसै पाप मोटा से मोटा॥Deyan Kaal Bhairav jab sota. Nasai paap mota se mota.
When Kaal Bhairav strikes with his staff, even the biggest sin is destroyed.
जब काल भैरव अपना सोटा मारते हैं, तो बड़े से बड़ा पाप नष्ट हो जाता है।

जनकर निर्मल होय शरीरा।
मिटै सकल संकट भव पीरा॥Jankar nirmal hoy sharira. Mitai sakal sankat bhav peera.
The devotee’s body becomes pure, and every trouble and worldly pain is wiped away.
भक्त का शरीर निर्मल हो जाता है और सारे संकट और सांसारिक पीड़ा मिट जाती है।

श्री भैरव भूतों के राजा।
बाधा हरत करत शुभ काजा॥Shri Bhairav bhooton ke raja. Badha harat karat shubh kaja.
Shri Bhairav, king of spirits, removes obstacles and makes all work go well.
भूतों के राजा श्री भैरव बाधाएँ हरते हैं और शुभ काम करते हैं।

ऐलादी के दुःख निवारयो।
सदा कृपा करि काज सम्हारयो॥Ailadi ke dukh nivaryo. Sada kripa kari kaj samharyo.
You removed the sorrows of Ailadi and others, and always graciously took care of their affairs.
आपने ऐलादी आदि के दुख दूर किए और सदा कृपा करके उनके काम सँभाले।

सुन्दर दास सहित अनुरागा।
श्री दुर्वासा निकट प्रयागा॥Sundar das sahit anuraga. Shri Durvasa nikat Prayaga.

सकल कामना पूरण देख्यो॥Shri Bhairav ji ki jai lekhyo. Sakal kamna pooran dekhyo.

श्री भैरव जी की यह जय-गाथा लिखी और अपनी सारी कामनाएँ पूरी होते देखीं।
