1. शरीरं सुरूपं तथा वा कलत्रं यशश्चारु चित्रं धनं मेरुतुल्यम्।
   मनश्चेन्न लग्नं गुरोरङ्घ्रिपद्मे ततः किं ततः किं ततः किं ततः किम्॥

   Shariram surupam tatha va kalatram yashashcharu chitram dhanam merutulyam, manashchenna lagnam guroranghripadme tatah kim tatah kim tatah kim tatah kim.

   You may have a handsome body, a lovely wife, wide and splendid fame and wealth as great as Mount Meru; but if your mind is not fixed on the guru’s lotus feet, what then? What then? What use is any of it?

   सुंदर शरीर हो, सुंदर पत्नी हो, शानदार यश हो और मेरु पर्वत जितना धन हो; पर अगर मन गुरु के चरण कमलों में नहीं लगा, तो उससे क्या? उससे क्या? उससे क्या लाभ?

2. कलत्रं धनं पुत्रपौत्रादि सर्वं गृहं बान्धवाः सर्वमेतद्धि जातम्।
   मनश्चेन्न लग्नं गुरोरङ्घ्रिपद्मे ततः किं ततः किं ततः किं ततः किम्॥

   Kalatram dhanam putrapautradi sarvam griham bandhavah sarvametaddhi jatam, manashchenna lagnam guroranghripadme tatah kim tatah kim tatah kim tatah kim.

   Wife, wealth, children, grandchildren, home and relatives: you may have them all; but if your mind is not fixed on the guru’s lotus feet, what use is any of it?

   पत्नी, धन, बेटे-पोते, घर और रिश्तेदार, यह सब मिल जाए; पर अगर मन गुरु के चरण कमलों में नहीं लगा, तो उससे क्या लाभ?

3. षडङ्गादिवेदो मुखे शास्त्रविद्या कवित्वादि गद्यं सुपद्यं करोति।
   मनश्चेन्न लग्नं गुरोरङ्घ्रिपद्मे ततः किं ततः किं ततः किं ततः किम्॥

   Shadangadivedo mukhe shastravidya kavitvadi gadyam supadyam karoti, manashchenna lagnam guroranghripadme tatah kim tatah kim tatah kim tatah kim.

   The Vedas with their six limbs and all the scriptures may be on your lips, and you may write fine prose and poetry; but if your mind is not fixed on the guru’s lotus feet, what use is any of it?

   छह अंगों सहित वेद और शास्त्रों का ज्ञान मुँह पर हो, और कोई सुंदर गद्य और पद्य रचता हो; पर अगर मन गुरु के चरण कमलों में नहीं लगा, तो उससे क्या लाभ?

4. विदेशेषु मान्यः स्वदेशेषु धन्यः सदाचारवृत्तेषु मत्तो न चान्यः।
   मनश्चेन्न लग्नं गुरोरङ्घ्रिपद्मे ततः किं ततः किं ततः किं ततः किम्॥

   Videsheshu manyah svadesheshu dhanyah sadacharavritteshu matto na chanyah, manashchenna lagnam guroranghripadme tatah kim tatah kim tatah kim tatah kim.

   Honoured abroad, fortunate at home, thinking “none surpasses me in good conduct”; but if your mind is not fixed on the guru’s lotus feet, what use is any of it?

   विदेश में सम्मान हो, अपने देश में धन्य माना जाए, और सदाचार में ‘मुझसे बढ़कर कोई नहीं’; पर अगर मन गुरु के चरण कमलों में नहीं लगा, तो उससे क्या लाभ?

5. क्षमामण्डले भूपभूपालवृन्दैः सदा सेवितं यस्य पादारविन्दम्।
   मनश्चेन्न लग्नं गुरोरङ्घ्रिपद्मे ततः किं ततः किं ततः किं ततः किम्॥

   Kshamamandale bhupabhupalavrindaih sada sevitam yasya padaravindam, manashchenna lagnam guroranghripadme tatah kim tatah kim tatah kim tatah kim.

   Your lotus feet may be served always by emperors and kings across the earth; but if your mind is not fixed on the guru’s lotus feet, what use is any of it?

   धरती भर के सम्राट और राजा जिसके चरण कमलों की सदा सेवा करते हों; पर अगर मन गुरु के चरण कमलों में नहीं लगा, तो उससे क्या लाभ?

6. यशो मे गतं दिक्षु दानप्रतापाज्जगद्वस्तु सर्वं करे यत्प्रसादात्।
   मनश्चेन्न लग्नं गुरोरङ्घ्रिपद्मे ततः किं ततः किं ततः किं ततः किम्॥

   Yasho me gatam dikshu danapratapajjagadvastu sarvam kare yatprasadat, manashchenna lagnam guroranghripadme tatah kim tatah kim tatah kim tatah kim.

   “My fame has spread in every direction through my generosity and power, and by good fortune everything in the world is in my hands”; but if your mind is not fixed on the guru’s lotus feet, what use is any of it?

   ‘दान और प्रताप से मेरा यश दिशाओं में फैल गया है, और कृपा से संसार की हर चीज़ मेरे हाथ में है’; पर अगर मन गुरु के चरण कमलों में नहीं लगा, तो उससे क्या लाभ?

7. न भोगे न योगे न वा वाजिराजौ न कान्तामुखे नैव वित्तेषु चित्तम्।
   मनश्चेन्न लग्नं गुरोरङ्घ्रिपद्मे ततः किं ततः किं ततः किं ततः किम्॥

   Na bhoge na yoge na va vajirajau na kantamukhe naiva vitteshu chittam, manashchenna lagnam guroranghripadme tatah kim tatah kim tatah kim tatah kim.

   Your mind may not be drawn to pleasure or to yoga, to fine horses, a beloved’s face or wealth; but if it is not fixed on the guru’s lotus feet, what use is any of it?

   मन न भोग में हो, न योग में, न श्रेष्ठ घोड़ों में, न प्रिया के मुख में, न धन में; पर अगर वह गुरु के चरण कमलों में नहीं लगा, तो उससे क्या लाभ?

8. अरण्ये न वा स्वस्य गेहे न कार्ये न देहे मनो वर्तते मे त्वनर्घ्ये।
   मनश्चेन्न लग्नं गुरोरङ्घ्रिपद्मे ततः किं ततः किं ततः किं ततः किम्॥

   Aranye na va svasya gehe na karye na dehe mano vartate me tvanarghye, manashchenna lagnam guroranghripadme tatah kim tatah kim tatah kim tatah kim.

   Your mind may dwell neither in the forest nor at home, neither in work nor in the body nor in priceless things; but if it is not fixed on the guru’s lotus feet, what use is any of it?

   मेरा मन न वन में है, न अपने घर में, न काम में, न शरीर में, न अनमोल चीज़ों में; पर अगर वह गुरु के चरण कमलों में नहीं लगा, तो उससे क्या लाभ?

9. गुरोरष्टकं यः पठेत्पुण्यदेही यतिर्भूपतिर्ब्रह्मचारी च गेही।
   लभेद्वाञ्छितार्थं पदं ब्रह्मसंज्ञं गुरोरुक्तवाक्ये मनो यस्य लग्नम्॥

   Gurorashtakam yah pathetpunyadehi yatirbhupatirbrahmachari cha gehi, labhedvanchhitartham padam brahmasanjnam guroruktavakye mano yasya lagnam.

   Whoever reads this Guru Ashtakam, be they ascetic, king, student or householder, and whose mind is fixed on the guru’s words, gains what they long for and the state called Brahman.

   जो पुण्यात्मा, चाहे संन्यासी हो, राजा हो, ब्रह्मचारी हो या गृहस्थ, यह गुरु अष्टक पढ़ता है और जिसका मन गुरु के वचनों में लगा है, उसे मनचाहा फल और ब्रह्म नाम का पद मिलता है।
