Sindhu taran, Siy soch haran, rabi baal baran tanu. Bhuj bisal, moorati karal kalahu ko kaal janu. Gahan dahan nirdahan Lank nihsank, bank bhuv. Jatudhan balvan maan mad davan Pavansuv. Kah Tulsidas sevat sulabh sevak hit santat nikat. Gun ganat, namat, sumirat, japat saman sakal sankat bikat.

He crossed the ocean and ended Sita’s grief; his body glows like the rising sun, his arms are mighty, and his fierce form seems death even to death. Fearless, with arched brows, the Wind’s son burned Lanka’s dense groves and crushed the pride of the mighty demons. Tulsidas says he is easily won by service and always near to help his servants; praising, bowing to, remembering and chanting him ends every grave trouble.

Svarn sail sankas koti rabi tarun tej ghan. Ur bisal, bhujdand chand nakh bajra, bajratan. Ping nayan, bhrikuti karal, rasna dasnanan. Kapis kes, karkas langoor, khal dal bal bhanan. Kah Tulsidas bas jasu ur Marutsut moorati bikat. Santap paap tehi purush pahin sapnehun nahin aavat nikat.

His body is like a golden mountain, blazing like a million rising suns; his chest is broad, his arms fierce, his nails like thunderbolts and his frame hard as diamond. With tawny eyes, fearsome brows, terrible tongue and teeth, brown hair and a rough tail, he breaks the strength of the wicked. Tulsidas says that whoever keeps this fierce form of the Wind’s son in their heart is never touched by suffering or sin, not even in dreams.

Panchmukh chhamukh Bhrigu mukhya bhat asur sur, sarv sari samar samaratth sooro. Baankuro beer biruddait biruddavali, bed bandi badat paijpooro. Jasu gungatha Raghunath kah, jasu bal bipul jal bharit jag jaladhi jhooro. Duvan dal damanko kaun Tulsees hai, Pavanko poot Rajpoot ruro.

Among warriors like five-faced Shiva, six-faced Kartikeya and Parashurama, among demons and gods, none can match this hero in battle; he is the gallant champion whose fame the Vedas sing like bards, true to every vow. Raghunath himself tells his glories, and before his strength the brimming ocean of the world seems dry; Tulsi asks, who but the Wind’s noble warrior son can crush the enemy hosts?

Bhanu son padhan Hanuman gaye Bhanu man, anumani sisukeli kiyo pherphar so. Pachhile pagani gam gagan magan man, kramko na bhram, kapi balak bihar so. Kautuk biloki lokpal Hari Har Bidhi, lochanani chakachaundhi chittani khabhar so. Bal kaidhaun beeras, dheeraj kai, sahas kai, Tulsi sareer dhare sabaniko saar so.

When Hanuman went to study under the Sun, the Sun took it for a child’s game and kept moving; so Hanuman, delighted, walked backwards across the sky facing him without missing a step, as if at play. Seeing this wonder, the world’s guardians, Vishnu, Shiva and Brahma were dazzled and amazed, wondering whether he was strength, heroism, patience or courage, the essence of them all in bodily form.

Bharat mein Parath ke rathketu Kapiraj, gajyo suni Kururaj dal halbal bho. Kahyo Dron Bheesham Sameersut Mahabeer, beer ras baari nidhi jako bal jal bho. Banar subhay balkeli bhoomi bhanu lagi, phalang phalanghoon ten ghati nabhtal bho. Nai nai maath jori jori haath jodha johain, Hanuman dekhe jagjeevan ko phal bho.

In the Mahabharata war the monkey king sat on Arjuna’s chariot flag, and when he roared the Kaurava army was thrown into panic. Drona and Bhishma said: this is the great hero, son of the Wind, whose strength is the water of the ocean of valour; as a child at play he leapt from earth to the sun, and the sky was less than one bound. Warriors gazed at him, bowing their heads and folding their hands; to see Hanuman was the reward of life itself.

Gopad payodhi kari, holika jyon laai Lank, nipat nisank parpur galbal bho. Dron so pahar liyo khyal hi ukhari kar, kanduk jyon kapi khel bel kaiso phal bho. Sankat samaj asmanjas bho Ramraj, kaaj jug poogni ko kartal pal bho. Sahasi samatth Tulsi ko naah jaki baanh, lokpal palan ko phir thir thal bho.

He crossed the ocean as if it were a cow’s hoofprint and set Lanka ablaze like a Holi bonfire, fearlessly throwing the enemy city into chaos; he plucked up the Drona mountain as lightly as a monkey plays with a ball or a bel fruit. When King Ram’s cause was in crisis and doubt, the work of ages was done in a moment in his palm; he is Tulsi’s bold and able master, whose arm became firm ground again for the guardians of the world.

Kamath ki peethi jake godani ki gaadain mano, naap ke bhajan bhari jalnidhi jal bho. Jatudhan davan paravan ko durg bhayo, mahameen baas timi tomani ko thal bho. Kumbhkaran Ravan payodnaad eendhan ko, Tulsi pratap jako prabal anal bho. Bheesham kahat mere anuman Hanuman, sarikho trikal na trilok mahabal bho.

When he leapt, his feet pressed hollows into the back of the cosmic tortoise, and the ocean filling them looked like water in measuring bowls; those hollows became a fortress for fleeing demons and a home for great fish and whales. Tulsi says his glory was a raging fire to the fuel of Kumbhakarna, Ravan and Meghanad; and Bhishma says, as I reckon it, no one as mighty as Hanuman has ever been, in all three times and three worlds.

Doot Ramray ko, sapoot poot paun ko, too Anjani ko nandan pratap bhoori bhanu so. Seey soch saman, durit dosh daman, saran aaye avan, Lakhan priy pran so. Dasmukh dusah daridra daribe ko bhayo, prakat tilok ok Tulsi nidhan so. Gyan gunvan balvan seva savdhan, saheb sujan ur aanu Hanuman so.

You are King Ram’s messenger, the worthy son of the Wind and Anjani’s child, with glory like the sun; you ended Sita’s grief, crush sin and fault, protect all who seek refuge, and are dear to Lakshman as his own life. You appeared in the three worlds to destroy the unbearable poverty that was Ravan, a treasure to Tulsi; O heart, hold Hanuman within you, wise, virtuous, strong, alert in service, the all-knowing master.

Davan duvan dal bhuvan bidit bal, bed jas gavat bibudh bandichhorko. Paap taap timir tuhin bighatan patu, sevak saroruh sukhad bhanu bhorko. Lok parlok ten bisok sapne na sok, Tulsi ke hiye hai bharoso ek orko. Ramko dularo daas Bamdevko nivas, naam kali kamtaru Kesarikishorko.

His strength in crushing enemy armies is known in every world, and the Vedas and gods sing the fame of the one who freed the gods from captivity; like the morning sun that melts frost and darkness and gladdens the lotuses, he dispels sin and suffering and gladdens his servants. Tulsi’s heart trusts him alone and knows no sorrow, even in dreams, here or hereafter; the name of Kesari’s son, Ram’s beloved servant in whom Shiva dwells, is a wish-fulfilling tree in the Kali age.

Mahabal seem, Mahabheem, Mahabanait, Mahabeer bidit barayo Raghubeerko. Kulis kathor tanu jor parai ror ran, karuna kalit man dharmik dheerko. Durjan ko kaal so karal paal sajjanko, sumire haranhar Tulsi ki peerko. Seey sukhdayak dularo Raghunayakko, sevak sahayak hai sahasi Sameerko.

He is the limit of might, hugely terrible, a great warrior, the famed great hero chosen by Raghuvir; his body is hard as a thunderbolt and battles roar where his strength falls, yet this steady, righteous one’s heart is full of compassion. Fearsome as death to the wicked and guardian of the good, he takes away Tulsi’s pain when remembered; the bold son of the Wind, who gladdens Sita and is dear to Ram, is the helper of his servants.

Rachibe ko Bidhi jaise, palibe ko Hari, Har meech maribe ko, jyaibe ko sudhapan bho. Dharibe ko dharani, tarani tam dalibe ko, sokhibe krisanu, poshibe ko himbhanu bho. Khal dukh doshibe ko, jan paritoshibe ko, maangibo maleenata ko modak sudan bho. Aarat ki aarati nivaribe ko tihoon pur, Tulsi ko saheb hatheelo Hanuman bho.

He is like Brahma in creating, Vishnu in sustaining, Shiva in slaying even death, and nectar in reviving; like the earth in bearing, the sun in scattering darkness, fire in drying up and the moon in nourishing. He punishes the wicked and satisfies his people, and to those ashamed to beg he is a generous gift of sweets; to end the distress of the suffering in all three worlds, Tulsi’s master, the determined Hanuman, has appeared.

Sevak syokai jani Jankees manai kani, sanukool Soolpani navai naath naankko. Devi dev danav dayavane hvai jorain haath, bapure barak kaha aur raja raankko. Jagat sovat baithe bagat binod mod, takai jo anarth so samarth ek aankko. Sab din ruro parai pooro jahan tahan tahi, jake hai bharoso hiye Hanuman haankko.

Knowing his service, Sita’s lord honours him, Shiva is kind to him and Indra, lord of heaven, bows to him; goddesses, gods and demons fold their hands humbly, so what of poor kings and beggars? Whoever trusts Hanuman’s battle cry in their heart lives in joy waking, sleeping, sitting or wandering; whoever wishes them harm must face the one supreme power, and every day goes well for them wherever they are.

Sanug sagauri sanukool Soolpani tahi, lokpal sakal Lakhan Ram Janaki.

Shiva with Gauri and his attendants, all the world’s guardians, Lakshman, Ram and Janaki are kind to such a person, who is free of sorrow in this world, the next and all three; why then, says Tulsi, crave any other hero? All are blessed by Kesari’s son, the liberator, the monkey of spotless fame and ocean of compassion; kind sages and siddhas cherish like a child anyone whose heart thrills to Hanuman’s battle cry.

Karunanidhan, balbuddhi ke nidhan, mod mahima nidhan, gun gyan ke nidhan hau. Bamdev roop, bhoop Ram ke sanehi, naam let det arth dharm kaam nirban hau. Aapne prabhav, Sitanath ke subhav seel, lok bed bidhi ke bidush Hanuman hau. Man ki, bachan ki, karam ki tihoon prakar, Tulsi tiharo tum saheb sujan hau.

You are a treasury of compassion, strength, wisdom, joy, glory, virtue and knowledge; you are Shiva in form, dear to King Ram, and taking your name grants wealth, duty, desire and liberation. Hanuman, by your own power and through the gentle nature of Sita’s lord, you know the ways of the world and the Vedas; Tulsi is yours in mind, word and deed, and you are his wise master.

Man ko agam, tan sugam kiye Kapees, kaaj Maharaj ke samaj saaj saaje hain. Dev bandichhor ranror Kesarikishor, jug jug jag tere birad biraje hain. Beer barjor, ghati jor Tulsi ki or suni, sakuchane sadhu, khalgan gaaje hain. Bigari sanvar Anjanikumar keeje mohin, jaise hot aaye Hanuman ke nivaje hain.

Lord of monkeys, you made easy in body what the mind cannot even reach, and arranged everything for the great king’s work; freer of the gods, roaring in battle, son of Kesari, your fame has shone in the world age after age. Mighty hero, hearing that Tulsi’s strength has failed, the good shrink back and the wicked exult; son of Anjani, mend what has gone wrong for me, as you always have for those you favour.

Jan siromani hau Hanuman sada jan ke man baas tiharo. Dharo bigaro main kako kaha kehi karan kheejhat haun to tiharo. Saheb sevak naate ten haato kiyo so tahan Tulsi ko na charo. Dosh sunaye ten aagehun ko hosiyar hvai haun man tau hiy haro.

Hanuman, you are the crown of the wise and always live in your devotees’ hearts; whom have I harmed, what have I spoiled, that you are angry with me, who am yours? If you have cut me off from the bond of master and servant, Tulsi has no recourse; tell me my faults and I will be careful from now on, for my heart has already lost hope.

Tere nivaje Gareebnivaj birajat bairin ke ur sale. Sankat soch sabai Tulsi liye naam phatai makari ke se jale. Boodh bhaye bali, merihi baar, ki haari pare bahutai nat pale.

Not even Shiva can uproot what you have established, and no one can rebuild the homes you have ruined; friend of the poor, those you favour flourish like thorns in their enemies’ hearts. Taking your name used to tear all Tulsi’s troubles and worries like cobwebs; have you grown old just at my turn, or are you worn out from protecting so many who bowed to you?

You crossed the ocean, crushed great wicked warriors and burned strongholds like Lanka; a lion in battle, you tore apart enemy elephants as a lion’s cub would. Why must Tulsi, who serves so able and good a master, bear sorrow and fault like a forest fire? You are a hawk among monkeys; why not snatch up these swollen wicked birds like little quails?

Achchh bimardan kanan bhani Dasanan aanan bha na niharo. Baridnad Akampan Kumbhkaran se kunjar kehari baro. Ram pratap hutasan, kachchh bipachchh, sameer Sameer dularo. Paap ten, saap ten, taap tihoon ten sada Tulsi kahan so rakhvaro.

You crushed Aksha and wrecked the grove, and Ravan’s face lost its lustre as he watched; to elephants like Meghanad, Akampan and Kumbhakarna you are a young lion. Ram’s glory is the fire, the enemy dry grass, and you, the Wind’s beloved, the wind that fans it; you are Tulsi’s guardian always, against sin, curses and the three kinds of suffering.

Janat jahan Hanuman kau nivajyau jan, man anumani, bali, bol na bisariyai. Seva jog Tulsi kabahun kaha chook pari, saheb subhav kapi sahibi sanbhariye. Apradhi jani keejai sasati sahas bhanti, modak marai jo, tahi mahur na mariye. Sahasi Sameer ke dulare Raghubeer joo ke, baanh peer Mahabeer begi hi nivariye.

The world knows I am one Hanuman has favoured; think it over, I beg you, and do not forget your word. When did Tulsi ever fail in service? Master, keep to your nature and your lordship. If you think me guilty, punish me a thousand ways, but do not kill with poison one who would die of a sweet; bold son of the Wind, beloved of Raghuvir, great hero, quickly take away the pain in my arm.

Balak biloki, bali, bare ten aapno kiyo, Deenbandhu daya keenhi nirupadhi nyariye. Raavro bharoso Tulsi ke, raavroi bal, aas raavriyai, daas raavro bichariye. Bado bikral Kali, kako na bihal kiyo, maathe pagu Bali ko, nihari so nivariye. Kesarikishor, ranror, barjor beer, baanhupeer Rahumatu jyaun pachhari mariye.

Seeing me a child, you made me your own from my early years, friend of the humble, with a rare and selfless kindness; Tulsi trusts only you, has only your strength and hopes in you alone, so think of him as your servant. The terrible Kali age has tormented everyone and set its foot on my head; see this and drive it off. Son of Kesari, roaring in battle, mighty hero, throw down and kill this arm pain as you did Simhika, Rahu’s mother.

Uthape thapanthir thape uthapanhar, Kesarikumar bal aapno sanbhariye. Ram ke gulamani ko kamtaru Ramdoot, mose deen doobre ko takiya tihariye. Saheb samarth toson Tulsi ke maathe par, sou apradh binu beer, baandhi mariye. Pokhari bisal baanhu, bali, barichar peer, makari jyaun pakari kai badan bidariye.

You firmly re-establish the uprooted and uproot the established; son of Kesari, remember your strength. Messenger of Ram, you are the wish-fulfilling tree for Ram’s servants and the only support of a poor, weak one like me. With so able a master over Tulsi’s head, this pain binds and beats me, hero, though I have done no wrong; my arm is a wide pond and the pain a creature in its water: seize it and tear it apart as you did the crocodile.

Ram ko saneh, Ram sahas, Lakhan Siy Ram ki bhagati, soch sankat nivariye. Mud markat rog barinidhi heri hare, jeev Jamvant ko bharoso tero bhariye. Koodiye kripal Tulsi suprem pabbay ten, suthal Subel bhalu baithi kai bichariye. Mahabeer baankure baraki baanhpeer kyon na, Lankini jyon laatghat hi marori mariye.

You hold Ram’s love, Ram’s courage, and devotion to Lakshman, Sita and Ram: take away my worry and trouble. My cheerful monkey-spirits have lost heart at the sight of this ocean of disease, and my soul, like Jambavan, puts all its trust in you; kind one, leap from the mountain of Tulsi’s love, and sit and plan on firm Subel as the bears did. Great, gallant hero, why not crush this wretched arm pain with a kick, as you did Lankini?

Lok parlokahun tilok na bilokiyat, tose samrath chash charihoon nihariye. Karm, kaal, lokpal, ag jag jeevjal, Naath haath sab nij mahima bichariye. Khaas daas raavro, nivas tero tasu ur, Tulsi so dev dukhi dekhiat bhariye. Baat tarumool baanhusool kapikachchhu beli, upaji sakeli kapikeli hi ukhariye.

Look with all four eyes: in this world, the next or all three, no one as able as you is to be seen. Karma, time, the world’s guardians and every living thing, moving or still, are in your hands, Lord; think of your own greatness. Tulsi is your own servant and you live in his heart, yet he is seen in great pain; this arm pain is an itching cowhage vine grown at the root of a tree of wind, so pull it up as playfully as a monkey would.

Karam karal Kans bhoomipal ke bharose, baki Bakbhagini kahoo ten kaha dareigi. Badi bikral balghatini na jaat kahi, baanhubal balak chhabile chhote chhareigi. Aai hai banai bes aap hi bichari dekh, paap jaay sabko guni ke pale pareigi. Pootna pisachini jyaun Kapikanh Tulsi ki, baanhpeer Mahabeer, tere mare mareigi.

As wicked Putana, Bakasura’s sister, feared no one while she relied on King Kansa, this pain relies on cruel karma; this dreadful child-killer, beyond words, has come in disguise to overpower small, lovely children. See for yourself: once she falls into the hands of the skilled one, everyone’s sins will go. Great hero, monkey-Krishna to Tulsi, as the demoness Putana died at Krishna’s hands, this arm pain will die when you strike it.

Whether this terrible pain comes from fate, from time, from someone’s anger or the three humours, from sin, suffering or deceit, from black magic, spells or charmed herbs: flee, you wicked, foul-minded thing! You will be punished, I tell you openly; don’t be foolish, know the monkey lord’s ways. By the command of mighty Hanuman, I swear by the great hero: arm pain, you shall not remain.

Sinhika sanhari bal, Sursa sudhari chhal, Lankini pachhari mari batika ujari hai. Lank parjari makari bidari baar baar, jatudhan dhari dhoori dhani kari dari hai. Tori Jamkatari Mandodari kadhori aani, Ravan ki rani Meghnad mahatari hai. Bheer baanhpeer ki nipat rakhi Mahabeer, kaun ke sakoch Tulsi ke soch bhari hai.

With strength you killed Simhika, outwitted Surasa, threw down and killed Lankini and laid waste the grove; you burned Lanka, tore apart the crocodile, and again and again ground the demon armies to dust. You broke Yama’s dagger and dragged out Mandodari, Ravan’s queen and Meghanad’s mother; great hero, out of regard for whom have you left this crowd of arm pain untouched, while Tulsi is so worried?

Tero balkeli beer suni sahmat dheer, bhoolat sareer sudhi Sakra Rabi Rahu ki. Teri baanh basat bisok lokpal sab, tero naam let rahai aarati na kahu ki. Saam daam bhed bidhi Bedhoo labed sidhi, haath Kapinath hi ke choti chor sahu ki. Aalas anakh parihaas kai sikhavan hai, ete din rahi peer Tulsi ke bahu ki.

Hero, hearing of your childhood play even the steadfast tremble, and Indra, the Sun and Rahu forget themselves; all the world’s guardians live free of sorrow under your arm, and no one’s distress remains when they take your name. Persuasion, gifts and division, every Vedic and folk success, and the fate of thief and merchant alike are in the monkey lord’s hands; is it laziness, displeasure, a joke or a lesson that Tulsi’s arm pain has lasted so many days?

Tookani ko ghar ghar dolat kangal boli, baal jyon kripal natpal pali poso hai. Keenhi hai sanbhar saar Anjanikumar beer, aapno bisarihain na merehoo bharoso hai. Itno parekho sab bhanti samrath aaju, Kapiraj sanchi kahaun ko tilok toso hai. Sasati sahat daas keeje pekhi parihas, cheeri ko maran khel balkani ko so hai.

I was a pauper wandering door to door for scraps; kind protector of the humble, you called me and raised me like a child. Heroic son of Anjani, you have cared for me fully, and I trust you won’t forget your own; my one complaint is that you are all-powerful today, and truly, monkey king, who in the three worlds is like you? Yet your servant suffers while you look on in jest, as children make a game of a sparrow’s death.

Aapne hi paap ten tritaap ten ki saap ten, badhi hai baanhbedan kahi na sahi jati hai. Aushadh anek jantra mantra totkadi kiye, baadi bhaye devta manaye adhikati hai. Chero tero Tulsi too mero kahyo Ramdoot, dheel teri beer mohi peer ten pirati hai.

Whether from my own sins, the three sufferings or a curse, this arm pain has grown beyond words and beyond bearing; many medicines, charms, mantras and remedies were tried in vain, and appeasing the gods only made it worse. Creator, sustainer, destroyer, karma, time: who in all the world does not obey you? Messenger of Ram, you said Tulsi is your servant and you are his; hero, your delay hurts me more than the pain.

Doot Ramray ko, sapoot poot Baay ko, samatth haath paay ko sahay asahay ko. Baanki birdavali bidit bed gaiyat, Ravan so bhat bhayo muthika ke ghaay ko. Ete bade saheb samarth ko nivajo aaj, seedat susevak bachan man kaay ko. Thori baanhpeer ki badi galani Tulsi ko, kaun paap kop, lop pragat prabhay ko.

Messenger of King Ram, worthy son of the Wind, mighty of hand and foot, helper of the helpless: the Vedas sing your famous glory, and a warrior like Ravan was felled by a blow of your fist. Yet today one favoured by so great and able a master, a true servant in word, mind and body, is suffering; Tulsi is less pained by a little arm pain than ashamed, wondering what sin or anger has hidden your plain power.

Devi dev danuj manuj muni siddh naag, chhote bade jeev jete chetan achet hain. Pootna pisachi jatudhani jatudhan baam, Ramdoot ki rajai maathe mani let hain. Ghor jantra mantra koot kapat kurog jog, Hanuman aan suni chhadat niket hain. Krodh keeje karm ko, prabodh keeje Tulsi ko, sodh keeje tinko jo dosh dukh det hain.

Goddesses, gods, demons, humans, sages, siddhas, nagas and every creature, small or great, conscious or not, even Putana, ogresses and hostile demons, bow their heads to the command of Ram’s messenger. Fierce spells, black magic, plots, deceit and foul diseases leave their homes on hearing Hanuman’s command; be angry with my karma, comfort Tulsi, and deal with those who bring faults and pain.

Tere bal banar jitaye ran Ravan son, tere ghale jatudhan bhaye ghar ghar ke. Tere bal Ramraj kiye sab surkaaj, sakal samaj saaj saaje Raghubar ke. Tero gungan suni geerban pulkat, sajal bilochan Biranchi Hari Har ke. Tulsi ke maathe par haath phero Keesnath, dekhiye na daas dukhi toso kanigar ke.

By your strength the monkeys won the war against Ravan, and the demons you struck were scattered from house to house; by your strength King Ram did all the gods’ work, and every arrangement for Raghuvar was made. Hearing your praises the gods thrill, and the eyes of Brahma, Vishnu and Shiva fill with tears; lord of monkeys, stroke Tulsi’s head, for the servant of so caring a master should not be seen in sorrow.

Ambu too haun ambuchar, amb too haun dimbh, so na boojhiye bilamb, avlamb mere teriye. Balak bikal jani pahi prem pahichani, Tulsi ki baanh par laami loom pheriye.

I was raised on your scraps, so even if I slip, don’t abandon me; I’m not worth two cowries, but look to your own nature. Simple lord, you grow angry at small faults in your simplicity, but having nourished, pleased and made me your own, don’t cast me aside. You are the water and I the fish, you the mother and I the child, so don’t delay, you are my only support; see this child in distress, know his love, protect him, and stroke Tulsi’s arm with your long tail.

Gheri liyo rogani, kujogani, kulogani jyaun, basar jalad ghan ghata dhuki dhai hai. Barsat baari peer jariye javase jas, rosh binu dosh, dhoom mool malinai hai. Karunanidhan Hanuman mahabalvan, heri hansi haanki phoonki phaujain tain udai hai. Khayo huto Tulsi kurog raadh rakasani, Kesarikishor rakhe beer bariai hai.

Diseases, evil influences and wicked people have surrounded me, like dense clouds sweeping in by day; the pain pours down and scorches me as rain withers the javasa plant, angry without any fault of mine, dark as smoke. Compassionate, mighty Hanuman, with a look, a laugh, a shout and a breath you have blown away such armies; the demons of foul disease were devouring Tulsi, and heroic son of Kesari, you have saved him by your strength.

Ramgulam tuhi Hanuman Gosain susain sada anukoolo. Palyo haun baal jyon aakhar doo pitu matu son mangal mod samoolo. Baanh ki bedan baanhpagar pukarat aarat aanand bhoolo. Shri Raghubeer nivariye peer rahaun darbar paro lati loolo.

Lord Hanuman, you alone are Ram’s true servant, a good master always kind to me; the two letters of Ram’s name raised me like a child, as father and mother would, and they are the root of all blessing and joy. In the pain of my arm I cry out to you, protector of arms, distressed and with all joy forgotten; Shri Raghuvir, take away this pain, even if I must lie at your court thin and lame.

Kaal ki karalata karam kathinai kidhaun, paap ke prabhav ki subhay baay baavre. Bedan kubhanti so sahi na jati raati din, soi baanh gahi jo gahi Sameerdabre. Layo taru Tulsi tiharo so nihari baari, seenchiye maleen bho tayo hai tihoon taavre. Bhootani ki aapni paraye ki kripanidhan, janiyat sabahi ki reeti Ram raavre.

Is it the cruelty of time, the hardness of karma, the power of sin, or simply a madness of the wind humour? The pain is unbearable day and night, and it has seized the very arm that the Wind’s son once held. Tulsi is a sapling you planted; see how it has withered, scorched by the three fevers, and water it. Ocean of mercy, Ram, you know the ways of all, of spirits, of your own and of others.

Paanypeer petpeer baanhpeer munhpeer, jarjar sakal sareer peermai hai. Dev bhoot pitar karam khal kaal grah, mohi par davari damanak si dai hai. Haun to binu mol ke bikano bali bare hi ten, ot Ramnam ki lalat likhi lai hai. Kumbhaj ke kinkar bikal boode gokhurani, haay Ramray aisi haal kahoon bhai hai.

Pain in my feet, belly, arm and mouth: my whole worn-out body is full of pain, and gods, spirits, ancestors, karma, the wicked, time and the planets have all rushed to fire on me like cannon. From childhood I sold myself to you without price and wrote the shelter of Ram’s name on my forehead; now the servant of Agastya, who drank the ocean, is drowning in a cow’s hoofprint of water. Alas, King Ram, has such a thing ever happened?

Bahuk Subahu neech leechar Mareech mili, munhpeer Ketuja kurog jatudhan hain. Ramnam japjaag kiyo chahon sanurag, kaal kaise doot bhoot kaha mere maan hain. Sumire sahay Ramlakhan aakhar dou, jinke samooh saake jagat jahan hain. Tulsi sanbhari Tadka sanhari bhari bhat, bedhe bargad se banai banvan hain.

This arm pain is base Subahu joined with vile Maricha, and the mouth pain is Tadaka, Ketu’s daughter; these diseases are demons. I lovingly wish to perform the sacrifice of chanting Ram’s name, so what are death’s messengers and spirits to me? Remembering the two names Ram and Lakshman brings help, whose great deeds the whole world knows; Tulsi, remember how they killed Tadaka and pierced mighty warriors, huge as banyan trees, with their arrows.

Balpane soodhe man Ram sanmukh bhayo, Ramnam let maangi khaat tooktak haun. Paryo lokreeti mein puneet preeti Ramray, mohbas baitho tori tarkitarak haun. Khote khote aacharan aacharat apnayo, Anjanikumar sodhyo Rampani paak haun. Tulsi Gosain bhayo bhonde din bhooli gayo, tako phal pavat nidan paripak haun.

As a child, with a simple heart, I turned to Ram and lived on begged scraps, taking Ram’s name; then I fell into worldly ways and, deluded, broke my pure love for King Ram with clever arguments. Though I did many wrong things, Ram accepted me, and Anjani’s son purified me by Ram’s own hand; Tulsi became a revered Gosain and forgot his hard days, and now he is reaping the ripened fruit of that.

Asan basan heen bisham bishad leen, dekhi deen doobro karai na haay haay ko. Tulsi anath so sanath Raghunath kiyo, diyo phal seelsindhu aapne subhay ko. Neech yahi beech pati paai bharuhaigo, bihai Prabhu bhajan bachan man kaay ko. Taten tanu peshiyat ghor bartor mis, phooti phooti nikasat lon Ramray ko.

Without food or clothing, sunk in deep sorrow, poor and weak: who would not cry out in pity at the sight of me? Raghunath, ocean of kindness, gave the orphan Tulsi a master, rewarding him from his own gracious nature; but meanwhile this lowly one, having found a master, grew proud and abandoned the Lord’s worship in word, mind and body. That is why my body is seen covered in terrible boils, as if King Ram’s salt that I ate were bursting out of it.

Let me live in this world known as the servant of Sita’s beloved, and die in Varanasi by the Ganga; in such a place Tulsi has sweets in both hands, for neither living nor dying would worry even a child. False or true, everyone calls me Ram’s, and in my heart I claim no other, not Shiva, not Vishnu; my body is in agony with unbearable pain, and who but Raghuvir can take it away?

Sitapati saheb sahay Hanuman nit, hit updesh ko Mahes mano guru kai. Manas bachan kaay saran tihare paany, tumhare bharose sur main na jane sur kai. Byadhi bhootjanit upadhi kahoo khal ki, samadhi keeje Tulsi ko jani jan phur kai. Kapinath Raghunath Bholanath Bhootnath, rogsindhu kyon na dariyat gaay khur kai.

Sita’s lord is my master, Hanuman my constant helper, and Shiva, who gives good counsel, I regard as my guru; in mind, word and body I take refuge at your feet, and trusting you I have not counted other gods as gods. Whether this disease comes from spirits or is the mischief of some wicked one, end it, knowing Tulsi truly yours; lord of monkeys, Raghunath, Bholanath, lord of spirits, why not shrink this ocean of disease to a cow’s hoofprint?

Kahon Hanuman son sujan Ramray son, kripanidhan Sankar son savdhan suniye. Harash bishad raag rosh gun doshmai, birachi Biranchi sab dekhiyat duniye. Maya jeev kaal ke karam ke subhay ke, karaiya Ram bed kahain sanchi man guniye. Tumh ten kaha na hoy haha so bujhaiye mohi, haun hoon rahon maun hi bayo so jani luniye.

I say this to Hanuman, to wise King Ram and to kind Shankar: please listen closely. Brahma made this whole world we see out of joy and sorrow, love and anger, virtue and fault; the Vedas say Ram is the doer behind maya, souls, time, karma and nature, and I hold this true in my heart. What can you not do? I beg you, explain this to me, or I will keep silent, knowing I must reap what I have sown.
