ಶೋಭಾನವೆನ್ನಿರೆ ಸುರರೊಳು ಶುಭಗನಿಗೆ, ಶೋಭಾನವೆನ್ನಿ ಸುಗುಣನಿಗೆ, ಶೋಭಾನವೆನ್ನಿರೆ ತ್ರಿವಿಕ್ರಮರಾಯಗೆ, ಶೋಭಾನವೆನ್ನಿ ಸುರಪ್ರಿಯಗೆ ಶೋಭಾನೆ.

Shobhanavennire surarolu shubhaganige, shobhanavenni sugunanige, shobhanavennire Trivikramarayage, shobhanavenni surapriyage shobhane.

Sing the auspicious wedding song for the most blessed of the gods, for the one full of virtues; sing it for King Trivikrama, who measured the worlds in three strides, the beloved of the gods.

देवताओं में सबसे मंगलमय प्रभु के लिए शोभाने (मंगल गीत) गाओ, सद्गुणों वाले के लिए गाओ; तीन पगों में लोक नापने वाले त्रिविक्रम राजा के लिए, देवताओं के प्रिय के लिए शोभाने गाओ।
ಲಕ್ಷ್ಮೀನಾರಾಯಣರ ಚರಣಕ್ಕೆ ಶರಣೆಂಬೆ, ಪಕ್ಷಿವಾಹನ್ನಗೆರಗುವೆ, ಪಕ್ಷಿವಾಹನ್ನಗೆರಗುವೆ ಅನುದಿನ, ರಕ್ಷಿಸಲಿ ನಮ್ಮ ವಧೂವರರ.

Lakshminarayanara charanakke sharanembe, pakshivahannageraguve, pakshivahannageraguve anudina, rakshisali namma vadhuvarara.

I take refuge at the feet of Lakshmi and Narayana; every day I bow to the lord who rides the eagle Garuda. May they protect our bride and groom.

मैं लक्ष्मी-नारायण के चरणों की शरण लेता हूँ, गरुड़ पर सवार प्रभु को रोज़ प्रणाम करता हूँ। वे हमारे वर-वधू की रक्षा करें।
ಪಾಲಸಾಗರವನ್ನು ಲೀಲೆಯಲಿ ಕಡೆಯಲು, ಬಾಲೆ ಮಹಾಲಕ್ಷುಮಿ ಉದಿಸಿದಳು, ಬಾಲೆ ಮಹಾಲಕ್ಷುಮಿ ಉದಿಸಿದಳಾ ದೇವಿ, ಪಾಲಿಸಲಿ ನಮ್ಮ ವಧೂವರರ.

Palasagaravannu leeleyali kadeyalu, bale Mahalakshumi udisidalu, bale Mahalakshumi udisidala devi, palisali namma vadhuvarara.

When the ocean of milk was churned in play, the maiden Mahalakshmi rose from it. May that goddess look after our bride and groom.

जब क्षीरसागर को लीला में मथा गया, तब कन्या महालक्ष्मी प्रकट हुईं। वे देवी हमारे वर-वधू का पालन करें।
ಬೊಮ್ಮನ ಪ್ರಳಯದಲಿ ತನ್ನರಸಿಯೊಡಗೂಡಿ, ಸುಮ್ಮನೆಯಾಗಿ ಮಲಗಿಪ್ಪ, ನಮ್ಮ ನಾರಾಯಣಗು ಈ ರಮ್ಮೆಗಡಿಗಡಿಗು, ಜನ್ಮವೆಂಬುದು ಅವತಾರ.

Bommana pralayadali tannarasiyodagudi, summaneyagi malagippa, namma Narayanagu ee Rammegadigadigu, janmavembudu avatara.

For our Narayana, who lies quietly with his queen through the dissolution at the end of Brahma’s age, and for Rama (Lakshmi) too, what we call birth, again and again, is only a descent, an avatar.

ब्रह्मा के प्रलय में अपनी रानी के साथ शांत लेटे रहने वाले हमारे नारायण और इन रमा (लक्ष्मी) के लिए, बार-बार का जन्म असल में अवतार ही है।
ಕಂಬುಕಂಠದ ಸುತ್ತ ಕಟ್ಟಿದ ಮಂಗಳಸೂತ್ರ, ಅಂಬುಜವೆರಡು ಕರಯುಗದಿ, ಅಂಬುಜವೆರಡು ಕರಯುಗದಿ ಧರಿಸಿ, ಪೀತಾಂಬರವನುಟ್ಟು ಮೆರೆದಳೆ.

Kambukanthada sutta kattida mangalasutra, ambujaveradu karayugadi, ambujaveradu karayugadi dharisi, peetambaravanuttu meredale.

With the wedding thread tied around her conch-like throat, holding two lotuses in her two hands and dressed in yellow silk, she shone in splendour.

शंख जैसी सुंदर गर्दन में मंगलसूत्र बाँधे, दोनों हाथों में दो कमल लिए और पीतांबर पहने वे शोभायमान हुईं।
ಒಂದು ಕರದಿಂದ ಅಭಯವನೀವಳೆ, ಮತ್ತೊಂದು ಕೈಯಿಂದ ವರಗಳ, ಕುಂದಿಲ್ಲದಾನಂದಸಂದೋಹ ಉಣಿಸುವ, ಇಂದಿರೆ ನಮ್ಮ ಸಲಹಲಿ.

Ondu karadinda abhayavaneevale, mattondu kaiyinda varagala, kundilladanandasandoha unisuva, Indire namma salahali.

With one hand she grants freedom from fear, with the other she gives boons. May Indira, who feeds us flawless, abundant joy, protect us.

वे एक हाथ से अभय देती हैं और दूसरे हाथ से वरदान। निर्दोष आनंद का भंडार खिलाने वाली इंदिरा (लक्ष्मी) हमारी रक्षा करें।
ಪೊಳೆವ ಕಾಂಚಿಯ ದಾಮ ಉಲಿವ ಕಿಂಕಿಣಿಗಳು, ನಲಿವ ಕಾಲಂದುಗೆ ಘಲಕೆನಲು, ನಳನಳಿಸುವ ಮುದ್ದುಮುಖದ ಚೆಲುವೆ ಲಕ್ಷುಮಿ, ಸಲಹಲಿ ನಮ್ಮ ವಧೂವರರ.

Poleva kanchiya dama uliva kinkinigalu, naliva kalanduge ghalakenalu, nalanalisuva muddumukhada cheluve Lakshumi, salahali namma vadhuvarara.

Her shining girdle with its tinkling bells, her dancing anklets jingling, lovely Lakshmi with her sweet, glowing face: may she protect our bride and groom.

चमकती करधनी की घंटियाँ बजती हैं, थिरकती पायलें छनकती हैं; खिले हुए प्यारे मुख वाली सुंदर लक्ष्मी हमारे वर-वधू की रक्षा करें।
ರನ್ನದ ಮೊಲೆಗಟ್ಟು ಚಿನ್ನದಾಭರಣಗಳ, ಚೆನ್ನೆ ಮಹಲಕ್ಷುಮಿ ಧರಿಸಿದಳೆ, ಚೆನ್ನೆ ಮಹಲಕ್ಷುಮಿ ಧರಿಸಿದಳಾದೇವಿ, ತನ್ನ ಮನೆಯ ವಧೂವರರ ಸಲಹಲಿ.

Rannada molegattu chinnadabharanagala, chenne Mahalakshumi dharisidale, chenne Mahalakshumi dharisidala devi, tanna maneya vadhuvarara salahali.

Beautiful Mahalakshmi wore a jewelled bodice and ornaments of gold. May the goddess protect the bride and groom of her own household.

सुंदर महालक्ष्मी ने रत्नजड़ित चोली और सोने के आभूषण पहने। वे देवी अपने घर के वर-वधू की रक्षा करें।
ಕುಂಭಕುಚದ ಮೇಲೆ ಇಂಬಿಟ್ಟ ಹಾರಗಳು, ತುಂಬಿಗುರುಳ ಮುಖಕಮಲ, ತುಂಬಿಗುರುಳ ಮುಖಕಮಲದ ಮಹಲಕ್ಷುಮಿ ಜಗದಂಬೆ ವಧೂವರರ ಸಲಹಲಿ.

Kumbhakuchada mele imbitta haragalu, tumbigurula mukhakamala, tumbigurula mukhakamalada Mahalakshumi Jagadambe vadhuvarara salahali.

Necklaces rest gracefully on her bosom; her lotus face is framed by curls as dark as bees. May Mahalakshmi, mother of the world, protect the bride and groom.

उनके वक्ष पर हार सुशोभित हैं, कमल-मुख पर भौंरों जैसी काली लटें हैं। ऐसी जगदंबा महालक्ष्मी वर-वधू की रक्षा करें।
ಮುತ್ತಿನ ಓಲೆಯನ್ನಿಟ್ಟಳೆ ಮಹಲಕ್ಷುಮಿ, ಕಸ್ತೂರಿ ತಿಲಕ ಧರಿಸಿದಳೆ, ಕಸ್ತೂರಿ ತಿಲಕ ಧರಿಸಿದಳಾ ದೇವಿ, ಸರ್ವತ್ರ ವಧೂವರರ ಸಲಹಲಿ.

Muttina oleyannittale Mahalakshumi, kasturi tilaka dharisidale, kasturi tilaka dharisidala devi, sarvatra vadhuvarara salahali.

Mahalakshmi wore pearl earrings and a mark of musk on her forehead. May the goddess protect the bride and groom wherever they are.

महालक्ष्मी ने मोतियों के कुंडल पहने और कस्तूरी का तिलक लगाया। वे देवी हर जगह वर-वधू की रक्षा करें।
ಅಂಬುಜನಯನಗಳ ಬಿಂಬಾಧರದ ಶಶಿಬಿಂಬದಂತೆಸೆವ ಮೂಗುತಿಮಣಿಯ ಶಶಿಬಿಂಬದಂತೆಸೆವ ಮೂಗುತಿಮಣಿಯ ಮಹಲಕ್ಷುಮಿ, ಉಂಬುದಕೀಯಲಿ ವಧುವರರ್ಗೆ.

Ambujanayanagala bimbadharada shashibimbadanteseva mugutimaniya, shashibimbadanteseva mugutimaniya Mahalakshumi, umbudakeeyali vadhuvararge.

Lotus-eyed, with lips red as the bimba fruit and a jewelled nose ring shining like the moon: may Mahalakshmi give the bride and groom plenty to live on.

कमल जैसे नेत्रों, बिंबफल जैसे लाल होंठों और चाँद जैसी चमकती नथ वाली महालक्ष्मी वर-वधू को भरपूर अन्न-धन दें।
ಮುತ್ತಿನಕ್ಷತೆಯಿಟ್ಟು ನವರತ್ನದ ಮುಕುಟವ, ನೆತ್ತಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಧರಿಸಿದಳೆ, ನೆತ್ತಿಯ ಮೇಲೆ ಧರಿಸಿದಳಾ ದೇವಿ ತನ್ನ, ಭಕ್ತಿಯ ಜನರ ಸಲಹಲಿ.

Muttinakshateyittu navaratnada mukutava, nettiya mele dharisidale, nettiya mele dharisidala devi tanna, bhaktiya janara salahali.

Adorned with pearl akshata, she wore a crown of nine gems on her head. May the goddess protect her devoted people.

मोतियों के अक्षत लगाकर उन्होंने सिर पर नवरत्नों का मुकुट धारण किया। वे देवी अपने भक्तों की रक्षा करें।
ಕುಂದ ಮಂದರ ಜಾಜೀ ಕುಸುಮಗಳ ವೃಂದವ, ಚೆಂದದ ತುರುಬಿಗೆ ತುರುಬಿದಳೆ, ಕುಂದಣವರ್ಣದ ಕೋಮಲೆ ಮಹಲಕ್ಷುಮಿ ಕೃಪೆಯಿಂದ ವಧೂವರರ ಸಲಹಲಿ.

Kunda mandara jajee kusumagala vrindava, chendada turubige turubidale, kundanavarnada komale Mahalakshumi kripeyinda vadhuvarara salahali.

She tucked clusters of jasmine, mandara and jaji flowers into her lovely hair bun. May tender Mahalakshmi, golden in colour, kindly protect the bride and groom.

उन्होंने कुंद, मंदार और जाजी के फूलों के गुच्छे अपने सुंदर जूड़े में सजाए। सोने जैसे रंग वाली कोमल महालक्ष्मी कृपा करके वर-वधू की रक्षा करें।
ಎಂದೆಂದಿಗು ಬಾಡದ ಅರವಿಂದದ ಮಾಲೆಯ, ಇಂದಿರೆ ಪೊಳೆವ ಕೊರಳಲ್ಲಿ, ಇಂದಿರೆ ಪೊಳೆವ ಕೊರಳಲ್ಲಿ ಧರಿಸಿದಳೆ ಅವಳಿಂದು ವಧೂವರರ ಸಲಹಲಿ.

Endendigu badada aravindada maleya, Indire poleva koralalli, Indire poleva koralalli dharisidale avalindu vadhuvarara salahali.

Indira wore around her shining neck a garland of lotuses that never fade. May she protect the bride and groom today.

इंदिरा ने अपनी चमकती गर्दन में कभी न मुरझाने वाले कमलों की माला पहनी। वे आज वर-वधू की रक्षा करें।

Lovely Mahalakshmi draped herself in a soft shawl of fine silk. May the goddess protect those who serve her.

सुंदरी महालक्ष्मी ने महीन रेशम की कोमल ओढ़नी ओढ़ी। वे देवी अपने सेवकों की रक्षा करें।
ಈ ಲಕ್ಷುಮಿ ದೇವಿಯ ಕಾಲುಂಗರ ಘಲಕೆನಲು, ಲೋಲಾಕ್ಷಿ ಮೆಲ್ಲನೆ ನಡೆತಂದಳು, ಸಾಲಾಗಿ ಕುಳ್ಳಿರ್ದ ಸುರರಸಭೆಯ ಕಂಡು, ಆಲೋಚಿಸಿದಳು ಮನದಲ್ಲಿ.

Ee Lakshumi deviya kalungara ghalakenalu, lolakshi mellane nadetandalu, salagi kullirda surarasabheya kandu, alochisidalu manadalli.

Her toe rings jingling, Lakshmi of the restless eyes walked in gently. Seeing the gods seated in rows in the assembly, she thought to herself.

पैरों के बिछुए छनकाती, चंचल नेत्रों वाली लक्ष्मी धीरे-धीरे चलकर आईं। कतार में बैठी देवताओं की सभा को देखकर उन्होंने मन में विचार किया।
ತನ್ನ ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಕುಂದ ತಾನೆ ಪೇಳುವದಕ್ಕೆ, ಮನ್ನದಿ ನಾಚಿ ಮಹಲಕ್ಷುಮಿ, ತನ್ನಾಮದಿಂದಲಿ ಕರೆಯದೆ ಒಬ್ಬೊಬ್ಬರ, ಉನ್ನತ ದೋಷಗಳನೆಣಿಸಿದಳು.

Tanna makkala kunda tane peluvadakke, mannadi nachi Mahalakshumi, tannamadindali kareyade obbobbara, unnata doshagalanenisidalu.

Shy at heart to speak of the faults of her own children, Mahalakshmi did not call anyone by name, but counted up each one’s great failings.

अपने ही बच्चों की कमियाँ खुद कहने में मन ही मन लजाकर, महालक्ष्मी ने किसी का नाम लिए बिना एक-एक के बड़े दोष गिनाए।
ಕೆಲವರು ತಲೆಯೂರಿ ತಪಗೈದು ಪುಣ್ಯವ, ಗಳಿಸಿದ್ದರೇನೂ ಫಲವಿಲ್ಲ, ಜ್ವಲಿಸುವ ಕೋಪದಿ ಶಾಪವ ಕೊಡುವರು, ಲಲನೆಯನಿವರು ಒಲಿಸುವರೆ.

Kelavaru taleyuri tapagaidu punyava, galisiddarenu phalavilla, jvalisuva kopadi shapava koduvaru, laleneyanivaru olisuvare.

Some have earned merit doing penance standing on their heads, but it is of no use: in blazing anger they hand out curses. Could such men win a woman’s heart?

कुछ ने सिर के बल तप करके पुण्य कमाया, पर उसका कोई फल नहीं, क्योंकि वे जलते क्रोध में शाप दे देते हैं। क्या ऐसे लोग किसी स्त्री का मन जीत सकते हैं?
ಎಲ್ಲ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಗಳೋದಿ ದುರ್ಲಭ ಜ್ಞಾನವ, ಕಲ್ಲಿಸಿ ಕೊಡುವ ಗುರುಗಳು, ಬಲ್ಲಿದ ಧನಕ್ಕೆ ಮರುಳಾಗಿವರಿಬ್ಬರು, ಸಲ್ಲದ ಪುರೋಹಿತಕ್ಕೊಳಗಾದರು.

Ella shastragalodi durlabha jnanava, kallisi koduva gurugalu, ballida dhanakke marulagivaribbaru, sallada purohitakkolagadaru.

These two teachers, who studied every scripture and teach rare knowledge, were dazzled by wealth and took up unworthy priestly service.

सारे शास्त्र पढ़कर दुर्लभ ज्ञान सिखाने वाले ये दो गुरु धन के मोह में पड़कर अनुचित पुरोहिती में लग गए।
ಕಾಮನಿರ್ಜಿತನೊಬ್ಬ ಕಾಮಿನಿಗೆ ಸೋತೊಬ್ಬ, ಭಾಮಿನಿಯ ಹಿಂದೆ ಹಾರಿದವ, ಕಾಮಾಂಧನಾಗಿ ಮುನಿಯ ಕಾಮಿನಿಗೈದನೊಬ್ಬ, ಕಾಮದಿ ಗುರುತಲ್ಪಗಾಮಿಯೊಬ್ಬ.

Kamanirjitanobba kaminige sotobba, bhaminiya hinde haridava, kamandhanagi muniya kaminigaidanobba, kamadi gurutalpagamiyobba.

One was conquered by desire, one lost himself to a woman, one chased after a maiden; one, blind with lust, went to a sage’s wife, and one, in desire, defiled his teacher’s bed.

एक काम से हारा, एक स्त्री पर मोहित हुआ, एक युवती के पीछे भागा; एक कामांध होकर मुनि की पत्नी के पास गया, और एक ने काम में गुरु-पत्नी का अपमान किया।
ನಶ್ವರೈಶ್ವರ್ಯವ ಬಯಸುವನೊಬ್ಬ ಪರರಾಶ್ರಯಿಸಿ ಬಾಳುವ ಈಶ್ವರನೊಬ್ಬ, ಹಾಸ್ಯವ ಮಾಡಿ ಹಲ್ಲುದುರಿಸಿಕೊಂಡವನೊಬ್ಬ, ಅದೃಶ್ಯಾಂಘ್ರಿಯೊಬ್ಬ ಒಕ್ಕಣನೊಬ್ಬ.

Nashvaraishvaryava bayasuvanobba pararashrayisi baluva Eeshvaranobba, hasyava madi halludurisikondavanobba, adrishyanghriyobba okkananobba.

One craves fleeting riches, one is a lord who lives by leaning on others; one lost his teeth for mocking, one has no visible feet, and one has only one eye.

एक नश्वर ऐश्वर्य चाहता है, एक ऐसा स्वामी है जो दूसरों के सहारे जीता है; एक ने हँसी उड़ाकर अपने दाँत गँवाए, एक के पैर दिखते नहीं, और एक काना है।

Mavana kondobba marulagihanu, gadha harvana kondobba balalida, jeevara kondobba kulagedendenisida, Shivanindobba bayalada.

One killed his father-in-law and went half mad; one killed a Brahmin and suffered for it; one who kills living beings is called a disgrace to his line; and one was turned to nothing by Shiva.

एक ने अपने ससुर को मारा और बावला हो गया; एक ने ब्राह्मण को मारकर कष्ट भोगा; एक जीवों को मारकर कुल-कलंक कहलाया; और एक शिव के हाथों भस्म होकर मिट गया।
ಧರ್ಮವುಂಟೊಬ್ಬನಲಿ ಹೆಮ್ಮೆಯ ಹೆಸರಿಗೆ, ಅಮ್ಮಮ್ಮ ತಕ್ಕ ಗುಣವಿಲ್ಲ, ಕ್ಷಮ್ಮೆಯ ಬಿಟ್ಟೊಬ್ಬ ನರಕದಲ್ಲಿ ಜೀವರ, ಮರ್ಮವ ಮೆಟ್ಟಿ ಕೊಲಿಸುವ.

Dharmavuntobbanali hemmeya hesarige, ammamma takka gunavilla, kshammeya bittobba narakadalli jeevara, marmava metti kolisuva.

One has dharma only as a proud name, but alas, not the virtues to match; another, without mercy, has souls in hell trampled on their tender spots and tormented.

एक में धर्म केवल घमंड भरे नाम के लिए है, पर हाय, उसके योग्य गुण नहीं; एक क्षमा छोड़कर नरक में जीवों के मर्मस्थान कुचलवाकर उन्हें यातना देता है।
ಖಳನಂತೆ ಒಬ್ಬ ತನಗೆ ಸಲ್ಲದ ಭಾಗ್ಯವ, ಬಲ್ಲಿದಗಂಜಿ ಬರಿಗೈದ, ದುರ್ಲಭ ಮುಕ್ತಿಗೆ ದೂರವೆಂದೆನಿಸುವ ಪಾತಾಳಕ್ಕೆ ಇಳಿದ ಗಡ.

Khalanante obba tanage sallada bhagyava, ballidaganji barigaida, durlabha muktige duravendenisuva patalakke ilida gada.

One, like a villain, seized fortune that was not his, then, fearing the mighty one, was left empty-handed and, they say, sank to the underworld, far from hard-won liberation.

एक ने दुष्ट की तरह ऐसा वैभव लिया जो उसका नहीं था, फिर बलवान से डरकर खाली हाथ रह गया, और कहते हैं वह दुर्लभ मुक्ति से दूर पाताल में उतर गया।
ಎಲ್ಲರಾಯುಷ್ಯವ ಶಿಂಶುಮಾರದೇವ, ಸಲ್ಲೀಲೆಯಿಂದಲಿ ತೊಲಗಿಸುವ, ಒಲ್ಲೆ ನಾನಿವರ ನಿತ್ಯಮುತ್ತೈದೆಯೆಂದು, ಬಲ್ಲವರೆನ್ನ ಭಜಿಸುವರು.

Ellarayushyava Shimshumaradeva, salleeleyindali tolagisuva, olle nanivara nityamuttaideyendu, ballavarenna bhajisuvaru.

The lord in the form of Shimshumara, the starry wheel of time, ends everyone’s lifespan with ease. I want none of these; the wise worship me as the one who is forever a wife.

शिंशुमार रूप वाले प्रभु (काल-चक्र) सहज लीला से सबकी आयु समाप्त कर देते हैं। मैं इनमें से किसी को नहीं चाहती; ज्ञानी मुझे नित्य सुहागिन कहकर पूजते हैं।
ಪ್ರಕೃತಿಯ ಗುಣದಿಂದ ಕಟ್ಟುವಡೆದು ನಾನಾ, ವಿಕೃತಿಗೊಳಗಾಗಿ ಭವದಲ್ಲಿ, ಸುಖದುಃಖವುಂಬ ಬೊಮ್ಮಾದಿ ಜೀವರು, ದುಃಖಕ್ಕೆ ದೂರೆನಿಪ ಎನಗೆಣೆಯೆ.

Prakritiya gunadinda kattuvadedu nana, vikritigolagagi bhavadalli, sukhaduhkhavumba Bommadi jeevaru, duhkhakke durenipa enagene.

Brahma and all other souls, bound by the qualities of nature and caught in endless change, taste joy and sorrow in worldly life. Are they equal to me, who am beyond sorrow?

प्रकृति के गुणों से बँधे, अनेक विकारों में फँसे, संसार में सुख-दुख भोगने वाले ब्रह्मा आदि जीव क्या मेरे बराबर हैं, जो दुख से परे हूँ?
ಒಬ್ಬನಾವನ ಮಗ ಮತ್ತೊಬ್ಬನಾವನ ಮೊಮ್ಮಗ, ಒಬ್ಬನಾವನಿಗೆ ಶಯನಾಹ, ಒಬ್ಬನಾವನ ಪೊರುವ ಮತ್ತಿಬ್ಬರಾವನಿಗಂಜಿ, ಅಬ್ಬರದಲಾವಾಗ ಸುಳಿವರು.

Obbanavana maga mattobbanavana mommaga, obbanavanige shayanaha, obbanavana poruva mattibbaravaniganji, abbaradalavaga sulivaru.

One is his son, another his grandson; one becomes his bed, one carries him, and two others, in awe of him, are always busily on the move.

कोई उनका पुत्र है, कोई पौत्र; कोई उनकी शय्या बनता है, कोई उन्हें ढोता है, और दो उनसे डरकर सदा भाग-दौड़ में लगे रहते हैं।
ಒಬ್ಬನಾವನ ನಾಮಕಂಜಿ ಬೆಚ್ಚುವ ಗಾಢ, ಸರ್ವರಿಗಾವ ಅಮೃತವ, ಸರ್ವರಿಗಾವ ಅಮೃತವನುಣಿಸುವ ಅವನೊಬ್ಬನೆ ನಿರನಿಷ್ಟ ನಿರವದ್ಯ.

Obbanavana namakanji bechchuva gadha, sarvarigava amritava, sarvarigava amritavanunisuva avanobbane niranishta niravadya.

One trembles deeply at his very name; he feeds nectar to all. He alone is free of all harm and without blemish.

कोई उनके नाम से ही गहरे डर से काँपता है; वे सबको अमृत पिलाते हैं। केवल वही अनिष्ट से रहित और निर्दोष हैं।
ನಿರನಿಷ್ಟ ನಿರವದ್ಯ ಎಂಬ ಶ್ರುತ್ಯರ್ಥವ, ಒರೆದು ನೋಡಲು ನರಹರಿಗೆ, ನರಕಯಾತನೆ ಸಲ್ಲ ದುರಿತಾತಿದೂರನಿಗೆ, ಮರುಳ ಮನಬಂದಂತೆ ನುಡಿಯದಿರು.

Niranishta niravadya emba shrutyarthava, oredu nodalu Naraharige, narakayatane salla duritatiduranige, marula manabandante nudiyadiru.

Test the Vedic teaching that he is free of harm and blemish, and you will see that hellish suffering cannot touch Narahari, who is far beyond all sin. Fool, do not say whatever comes to mind.

‘निरनिष्ट, निरवद्य’ इस श्रुति के अर्थ को परखकर देखो: पापों से बहुत दूर नरहरि को नरक की यातना नहीं छूती। मूर्ख, मनमानी बातें मत कहो।
ಒಂದೊಂದು ಗುಣಗಳು ಇದ್ದಾವು ಇವರಲ್ಲಿ, ಸಂದಣಿಸಿವೆ ಬಹು ದೋಷ, ಕುಂದೆಳ್ಳಷ್ಟಿಲ್ಲದ ಮುಕುಂದನೆ ತನಗೆಂದು, ಇಂದಿರೆ ಪತಿಯ ನೆನೆದಳು.

Ondondu gunagalu iddavu ivaralli, sandanisive bahu dosha, kundellashtillada Mukundane tanagendu, Indire patiya nenedalu.

These gods may have a virtue or two, but many faults crowd in with them. Deciding that Mukunda, without a sesame seed’s worth of flaw, was the one for her, Indira set her heart on him as her husband.

इन देवताओं में एक-एक गुण भले हो, पर बहुत से दोष भरे हैं। तिल भर भी कमी न रखने वाले मुकुंद ही मेरे योग्य हैं, यह सोचकर इंदिरा ने उन्हें पति रूप में याद किया।
ದೇವರ್ಷಿ ವಿಪ್ರರ ಕೊಂದು ತನ್ನುದರದೊಳಿಟ್ಟು, ತೀವಿದ್ದ ಹರಿಗೆ ದುರಿತವ, ಭಾವಜ್ಞರೆಂಬರೆ ಆಲದೆಲೆಯ ಮೇಲೆ, ಶಿವನ ಲಿಂಗವ ನಿಲಿಸುವರೆ.

Devarshi viprara kondu tannudaradolittu, teevidda Harige duritava, bhavajnarembare aladeleya mele, Shivana lingava nilisuvare.

At the dissolution Hari draws gods, sages and Brahmins into his belly and rests on a banyan leaf. Would those who understand call that a sin? No other god could be set upon that leaf.

प्रलय में हरि देवताओं, ऋषियों और ब्राह्मणों को अपने उदर में समा लेते हैं और वटपत्र पर लेटे रहते हैं। क्या समझदार लोग इसे पाप कहेंगे? उस पत्ते पर कोई दूसरा देवता नहीं ठहर सकता।
ಹಸಿ ತೃಷೆ ಜರೆ ಮರಣ ರೋಗ ರುಜಿನಗಳೆಂಬ, ಅಸುರ ಪಿಶಾಚಿಗಳ ಭಯವೆಂಬ, ವ್ಯಸನ ಬರಬಾರದು ಎಂಬ ನಾರಾಯಣಗೆ, ಪಶು ಮೊದಲಾಗಿ ನೆನೆಯದು.

Hasi trishe jare marana roga rujinagalemba, asura pishachigala bhayavemba, vyasana barabaradu emba Narayanage, pashu modalagi neneyadu.

Hunger, thirst, old age, death, disease and pain, fear of demons and ghosts: no such trouble can come to Narayana. Not even a beast would think otherwise.

भूख, प्यास, बुढ़ापा, मृत्यु, रोग-पीड़ा और असुरों-पिशाचों का डर, ऐसे कष्ट नारायण को कभी नहीं हो सकते; पशु तक ऐसा नहीं सोचेगा।
ತಾ ದುಃಖಿಯಾದರೆ ಸುರರಾರ್ತಿಯ ಕಳೆದು, ಮೋದವೀವುದಕ್ಕೆ ಧರೆಗಾಗಿ, ಮಾಧವ ಬಾಹನೆ ಕೆಸರೊಳು ಮುಳುಗಿದವ ಪರರ, ಬಾಧಿಪ ಕೆಸರ ಬಿಡಿಸುವನೆ.

Ta duhkhiyadare surarartiya kaledu, modaveevudakke dharegagi, Madhava bahane kesarolu mulugidava parara, badhipa kesara bidisuvane.

If Madhava himself suffered, would he come down to earth to end the gods’ distress and give them joy? Can one sunk in mud pull others out of the mud that troubles them?

अगर माधव स्वयं दुखी होते तो क्या देवताओं का कष्ट मिटाकर आनंद देने धरती पर आते? जो खुद कीचड़ में डूबा हो, क्या वह दूसरों को सताने वाले कीचड़ से निकाल सकता है?
ಬೊಮ್ಮನಾಲಯದಲ್ಲಿ ಇದ್ದವಗೆ ಲಯವುಂಟೆ, ಜನ್ಮಲಯವಿಲ್ಲದವನಿಗೆ, ಅಮ್ಮಿಯನುಣಿಸಿದ್ದ ಯಶೋದೆಯಾಗಿದ್ದಳೆ, ಅಮ್ಮ ಇವಗೆ ಹಸಿ ತೃಷೆಯುಂಟೆ.

Bommanalayadalli iddavage layavunte, janmalayavilladavanige, ammiyanunisidda Yashodeyagiddale, amma ivage hasi trisheyunte.

Can there be an end for one who outlasts Brahma’s dissolution, who has neither birth nor death? Was Yashoda there then to nurse him? Mother, does he even know hunger or thirst?

जो ब्रह्मा के प्रलय में भी रहता है, जिसका न जन्म है न नाश, क्या उसका अंत हो सकता है? क्या तब उसे दूध पिलाने वाली यशोदा थीं? अम्मा, क्या इसे भूख-प्यास लगती है?
ಆಗ ಭಕ್ಷ್ಯಭೋಜ್ಯವಿತ್ತು ಪೂಜಿಸುವ, ಯೋಗಿಗೆ ಉಂಟೆ ಧನಧಾನ್ಯ, ಆಗ ದೊರಕೊಂಬುದೆ ಪಾಕ ಮಾಡುವ ವಹ್ನಿ, ಮತ್ತಾಗಲೆಲ್ಲಿಹುದು ವಿಚಾರಿಸಿರೊ.

Aga bhakshyabhojyavittu pujisuva, yogige unte dhanadhanya, aga dorakombude paka maduva vahni, mattagalellihudu vicharisiro.

At the dissolution, is there a yogi with wealth and grain to worship him with offerings of food? Is there even fire to cook with? Think about where any of it would be then.

प्रलय के समय क्या कोई योगी है जिसके पास भोजन चढ़ाकर पूजने के लिए धन-धान्य हो? क्या तब पकाने के लिए आग भी मिलती है? सोचो, तब यह सब कहाँ होगा।
ರೋಗವನೀವ ವಾತ ಪಿತ್ತ ಶ್ಲೇಷ್ಮ, ಆಗ ಕೂಡುವುದೆ ರಮೆಯೊಡನೆ, ಭೋಗಿಸುವವಗೆ ದುರಿತವ ನೆನೆವರೆ, ಈ ಗುಣನಿಧಿಗೆ ಎಣೆಯುಂಟೆ.

Rogavaneeva vata pitta shleshma, aga kuduvude rameyodane, bhogisuvavage duritava nenevare, ee gunanidhige eneyunte.

Do wind, bile and phlegm, the causes of disease, touch him then, as he delights with Rama? Can anyone imagine sin in him? Is there any equal to this treasury of virtues?

रोग देने वाले वात, पित्त, कफ क्या तब उन्हें छूते हैं जब वे रमा के साथ आनंद में रहते हैं? क्या उनमें पाप सोचा जा सकता है? क्या इस गुणों के भंडार की कोई बराबरी है?
ರಮ್ಮೆದೇವಿಯರನಪ್ಪಿಕೊಂಡಿಪ್ಪುದು, ರಮ್ಮೆಯರಸಗೆ ರತಿ ಕಾಣಿರೊ, ಅಮ್ಮೋಘವೀರ್ಯವು ಚಲಿಸಿದರೆ ಪ್ರಳಯದಲಿ, ಕುಮ್ಮಾರರ್ ಯಾಕೆ ಜನಿಸರು.

Rammedeviyarananappikondippudu, Rammeyarasage rati kaniro, ammoghaveeryavu chalisidare pralayadali, kummarar yake janisaru.

Know that the joy of Rama’s lord lies simply in holding Goddess Rama close. If his unfailing seed were spent during the dissolution, why are no children born then?

जान लो, रमा के स्वामी का आनंद बस रमा देवी को आलिंगन में रखने में है। अगर प्रलय में उनका अमोघ वीर्य स्खलित होता, तो पुत्र क्यों नहीं जन्मते?
ಏಕತ್ರ ನಿರ್ಣೀತ ಶಾಸ್ತ್ರಾರ್ಥ ಪರತ್ರಾಪಿ, ಬೇಕೆಂಬ ನ್ಯಾಯವ ತಿಳಿದುಕೊ, ಶ್ರೀಕೃಷ್ಣನೊಬ್ಬನೆ ಸರ್ವ ದೋಷಕ್ಕೆ ಸಿಲುಕನೆಂಬುದು ಸಲಹಲಿಕೆ.

Ekatra nirneeta shastrartha paratrapi, bekemba nyayava tiliduko, Shrikrishnanobbane sarva doshakke silukanembudu salahalike.

Understand the rule that what scripture settles in one place holds everywhere else too: Sri Krishna alone is caught by no fault at all.

यह नियम समझो कि शास्त्र का जो अर्थ एक जगह तय हो गया, वह दूसरी जगह भी मान्य है: केवल श्रीकृष्ण ही किसी दोष में नहीं फँसते।
ಎಲ್ಲ ಜಗವ ನುಂಗಿ ದಕ್ಕಿಸಿಕೊಂಡವಗೆ, ಸಲ್ಲದು ರೋಗ ರುಜಿನವು, ಬಲ್ಲ ವೈದ್ಯರ ಕೇಳಿ ಅಜೀರ್ತಿಮೂಲವಲ್ಲದಿಲ್ಲ, ಸಮಸ್ತ ರುಜಿನವು.

Ella jagava nungi dakkisikondavage, salladu roga rujinavu, balla vaidyara keli ajeertimulavalladilla, samasta rujinavu.

Disease and pain cannot touch one who swallowed the whole world and digested it. Ask any skilled physician: every illness is rooted in indigestion.

जिसने पूरा जगत निगलकर पचा लिया, उसे रोग-पीड़ा नहीं छू सकती। किसी जानकार वैद्य से पूछो: सारे रोगों की जड़ अपच ही है।
ಇಂಥಾ ಮೂರುತಿಯ ಒಳಗೊಂಬ ನರಕ ಬಹು, ಭ್ರಾಂತ ನೀನೆಲ್ಲಿಂದ ತೋರಿಸುವೆಲೊ, ಸಂತೆಯ ಮರುಳ ಹೋಗೆಲೊ ನಿನ್ನ ಮಾತ, ಸಂತರು ಕೇಳಿ ಸೊಗಸರು.

Intha murutiya olagomba naraka bahu, bhranta neenellinda torisuvelo, santeya marula hogelo ninna mata, santaru keli sogasaru.

Deluded one, where will you find a hell that could hold such a being? Go away, you marketplace fool; the saints take no pleasure in your words.

हे भ्रमित, ऐसे स्वरूप को अपने भीतर रख सके, ऐसा नरक तू कहाँ से दिखाएगा? चल हट, बाज़ारू मूर्ख; संत तेरी बातें सुनकर प्रसन्न नहीं होते।
ಶ್ರೀನಾರಾಯಣರ ಜನನೀ ಜನಕರ, ನಾನೆಂಬ ವಾದಿ ನುಡಿಯಲೊ, ಜಾಣರಿಂದರಿಯ ಮೂಲ ರೂಪವ ತೋರಿ, ಶ್ರೀ ನರಸಿಂಹನ ಅವತಾರ.

Shrinarayanara jananee janakara, nanemba vadi nudiyalo, janarindariya mula rupava tori, Shri Narasimhana avatara.

You who argue, name the mother and father of Sri Narayana! Learn from the wise: as Narasimha he appeared in his original form, born of no one.

हे वाद करने वाले, श्री नारायण के माता-पिता का नाम बताओ! ज्ञानियों से समझो: नरसिंह अवतार में उन्होंने बिना किसी जन्म के अपना मूल रूप दिखाया।
ಅಂಬುಧಿಯ ಉದಕದಲಿ ಒಡೆದು ಮೂಡಿದ ಕೂರ್ಮನೆಂಬ ಶ್ರೀ ಹರಿಯ ಪಿತನಾರು, ಎಂಬ ಶ್ರೀ ಹರಿಯ ಪಿತನಾರು ಅದರಿಂದ ಸ್ವಾಯಂಭುಗಳೆಲ್ಲ ಅವತಾರ.

Ambudhiya udakadali odedu mudida Kurmanemba Shri Hariya pitanaru, emba Shri Hariya pitanaru adarinda svayambhugalella avatara.

Who was the father of Sri Hari as the Tortoise, who broke through the ocean’s waters and appeared? So all his avatars are self-born.

समुद्र के जल को चीरकर प्रकट हुए कूर्म रूपी श्री हरि के पिता कौन थे? इसलिए उनके सारे अवतार स्वयंभू हैं।
ದೇವಕಿಯ ಗರ್ಭದಲಿ ದೇವನವತರಿಸಿದ, ಭಾವವನ್ನು ಬಲ್ಲ ವಿವೇಕಿಗಳು, ಈ ವಸುಧೆಯೊಳಗೆ ಕೃಷ್ಣಗೆ ಜನ್ಮವ, ಆವ ಪರಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ನುಡಿಯುವೆಯೊ.

Devakiya garbhadali devanavatarisida, bhavavannu balla vivekigalu, ee vasudheyolage Krishnage janmava, ava pariyalli nudiyuveyo.

The wise understand what it means that the Lord came forth through Devaki’s womb. How, then, can you talk of Krishna being born on this earth?

विवेकी लोग समझते हैं कि भगवान देवकी के गर्भ से कैसे अवतरित हुए। फिर तुम इस धरती पर कृष्ण के जन्म की बात किस तरह करते हो?
ಆಕಳಿಸುವಾಗ ಯಶೋದಾದೇವಿಗೆ, ದೇವ ತನ್ನೊಳಗೆ ಹುದುಗಿದ್ದ, ತ್ರಿಭುವನವೆಲ್ಲವ ತೋರಿದುದಿಲ್ಲವೆ, ಆ ವಿಷ್ಣು ಗರ್ಭದೊಳಡಗುವನೆ.

Akalisuvaga Yashodadevige, deva tannolage hudugidda, tribhuvanavellava toridudillave, a Vishnu garbhadoladaguvane.

When he yawned, didn’t the Lord show Yashoda all three worlds hidden inside him? Can such a Vishnu be held in a womb?

जम्हाई लेते समय क्या भगवान ने यशोदा को अपने भीतर छिपे तीनों लोक नहीं दिखाए? क्या ऐसे विष्णु किसी गर्भ में समा सकते हैं?
ಆನೆಯ ಮಾನದಲ್ಲಿ ಅಡಗಿಸಿದವರುಂಟೆ, ಅನೇಕ ಕೋಟಿ ಅಜಾಂಡವ, ಅಣುರೇಣು ಕೂಪದಲಿ ಆಳ್ದ ಶ್ರೀ ಹರಿಯ, ಜನನಿ ಜಠರವು ಒಳಗೊಂಬುದೆ.

Aneya manadalli adagisidavarunte, aneka koti ajandava, anurenu kupadali alda Shri Hariya, janani jatharavu olagombude.

Has anyone ever fit an elephant into a measuring cup? Can a mother’s womb hold Sri Hari, who keeps countless crores of universes in the tiny pores of his skin?

क्या किसी ने हाथी को छोटे से पात्र में छिपाया है? जो श्री हरि अपने रोमकूपों में अनगिनत करोड़ ब्रह्मांड रखते हैं, क्या उन्हें माँ का गर्भ समा सकता है?
ಅದರಿಂದ ಕೃಷ್ಣನಿಗೆ ಜನ್ಮವೆಂಬುದು ಸಲ್ಲ, ಮದನನಿವನ ಕುಮಾರನು, ಕದನದಿ ಕಣೆಗಳ ಇವನೆದೆಗೆಸೆವನೆ, ಸುದತೇರಿಗಿವನಿಂತು ಸಿಲುಕುವನೆ.

Adarinda Krishnanige janmavembudu salla, Madananivana kumaranu, kadanadi kanegala ivanedegesevane, sudaterigivanintu silukuvane.

So birth does not apply to Krishna. Madana, the god of love, is his own son: would he shoot arrows at his father’s chest? Could Krishna be caught by lovely women like that?

इसलिए कृष्ण के लिए जन्म की बात ठीक नहीं। कामदेव तो उनका पुत्र है; क्या वह युद्ध में अपने पिता की छाती पर बाण चलाएगा? क्या कृष्ण इस तरह सुंदरियों के जाल में फँस सकते हैं?
ಅದರಿಂದ ಕೃಷ್ಣನಿಗೆ ಪರನಾರೀ ಸಂಗವ ಕೋವಿದರಾದ ಬುಧರು ನುಡಿವರೆ, ಸದರವೆ ಈ ಮಾತು ಸರ್ವ ವೇದಂಗಳು, ಮುದದಿಂದ ತಾವು ಸ್ತುತಿಸುವವು.

Adarinda Krishnanige paranaree sangava kovidarada budharu nudivare, sadarave ee matu sarva vedangalu, mudadinda tavu stutisuvavu.

So would learned, wise people speak of Krishna consorting with other men’s wives? Is this a light matter? All the Vedas joyfully sing his praise.

इसलिए क्या विद्वान ज्ञानी कृष्ण के पराई स्त्रियों से संग की बात करेंगे? क्या यह हल्की बात है? सारे वेद आनंद से उनकी स्तुति करते हैं।
ಎಂದ ಭಾಗವತದ ಚೆಂದದ ಮಾತನು, ಮಂದ ಮಾನವ ಮನಸಿಗೆ, ತಂದುಕೊ ಜಗಕ್ಕೆ ಕೈವಲ್ಯವೀವ ಮುಕುಂದಗೆ ಕುಂದು ಕೊರತೆ ಸಲ್ಲದು.

Enda Bhagavatada chendada matanu, manda manava manasige, tanduko jagakke kaivalyaveeva Mukundage kundu korate salladu.

Dull-witted man, take to heart these beautiful words of the Bhagavata: no flaw or lack can belong to Mukunda, who grants liberation to the world.

हे मंदबुद्धि मनुष्य, भागवत के इन सुंदर वचनों को मन में बिठा लो: जगत को मोक्ष देने वाले मुकुंद में कोई दोष या कमी नहीं हो सकती।
ಹತ್ತು ವರ್ಷದ ಕೆಳಗೆ ಮಕ್ಕಳಾಟಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ, ಚಿತ್ತ ಸ್ತ್ರೀಯರಿಗೆ ಎರಗುವದೆ, ಅರ್ತಿಯಿಂದರ್ಚಿಸಿದ ಗೋಕುಲದ ಕನ್ಯೆಯರ, ಸತ್ಯಸಂಕಲ್ಪ ಬೆರಸಿದ್ದ.

Hattu varshada kelage makkalatikeyalli, chitta streeyarige eraguvade, artiyindarchisida Gokulada kanyeyara, satyasankalpa berasidda.

Under ten years old and still at children’s games, would his mind turn to women? The one whose every wish comes true simply joined the maidens of Gokula who worshipped him with longing.

दस वर्ष से कम आयु में, बच्चों के खेल में लगे रहते हुए, क्या उनका मन स्त्रियों की ओर जाता? सत्यसंकल्प प्रभु तो बस उन गोकुल की कन्याओं के साथ रहे जिन्होंने प्रेम से उनकी पूजा की।
ಹತ್ತು ಮತ್ತಾರು ಸಾಸಿರ ಸ್ತ್ರೀಯರಲ್ಲಿ, ಹತ್ತು ಹತ್ತೆನಿಪ ಕ್ರಮದಿಂದ, ಪುತ್ರರ ವೀರ್ಯದಲಿ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿಸಿದವರುಂಟೆ, ಅರ್ತಿಯ ಸೃಷ್ಟಿ ಹರಿಗಿದು.

Has anyone fathered sons, ten to each, upon sixteen thousand wives? For Hari this was creation done in play.

क्या कभी किसी ने सोलह हज़ार पत्नियों से, हर एक से दस-दस, पुत्र उत्पन्न किए हैं? हरि के लिए यह तो खेल-खेल में की गई सृष्टि थी।
ರೋಮ ರೋಮಕೂಪ ಕೋಟಿವೃಕಂಗಳ, ನಿರ್ಮಿಸಿ ಗೋಪಾಲರ ತೆರಳಿಸಿದ, ನಮ್ಮ ಶ್ರೀಕೃಷ್ಣನು ಮಕ್ಕಳ ಸೃಜಿಸುವ, ಮಹಿಮೆ ಬಲ್ಲವರಿಗೆ ಸಲಹಲಿಕೆ.

Roma romakupa kotivrikangala, nirmisi Gopalara teralisida, namma Shrikrishnanu makkala srijisuva, mahime ballavarige salahalike.

From every pore of his skin he made crores of wolves and so moved the cowherds away. Those who know our Sri Krishna’s power to create children at will understand this.

उन्होंने अपने रोम-रोम से करोड़ों भेड़िये रचकर ग्वालों को वहाँ से हटाया। जो हमारे श्रीकृष्ण की इच्छा मात्र से संतान रचने की महिमा जानते हैं, वे यह समझते हैं।

मृत्यु से परे हरि को नरक की यातना नहीं छूती। नरक में जीवों को पीड़ा तुम्हारे यमदेव देते हैं। तुम दुख पाओगे, क्योंकि तुम हरि के गुण नहीं जानते।

Our Sri Krishna swallowed a forest fire; he does not flinch at the fire of a lowly hell. So the wise never accept that hell could touch him.

हमारे श्रीकृष्ण ने दावानल निगल लिया था; वे तुच्छ नरक की आग से नहीं डरते। इसलिए ज्ञानी कभी नहीं मानते कि उनके लिए नरक है।
