Narayana Suktam

नारायणसूक्तम्

1. सहस्रशीर्षं देवं विश्वाक्षं विश्वशम्भुवम्।
   विश्वं नारायणं देवमक्षरं परमं पदम्॥

   Sahasrashirsham devam vishvaksham vishvashambhuvam, vishvam narayanam devamaksharam paramam padam.

   The god with a thousand heads, whose eyes are everywhere, the source of the world’s welfare: Narayana, who is the universe, the imperishable, the highest goal.

   हज़ार सिरों वाले, सब ओर देखने वाले, संसार का कल्याण करने वाले देव नारायण, जो स्वयं विश्व हैं, अविनाशी हैं और परम पद हैं।

2. विश्वतः परमान्नित्यं विश्वं नारायणं हरिम्।
   विश्वमेवेदं पुरुषस्तद्विश्वमुपजीवति॥

   Vishvatah paramannityam vishvam narayanam harim, vishvamevedam purushastadvishvamupajivati.

   Beyond the universe and eternal, yet the universe itself: Narayana, Hari. All this is the Purusha, and the universe lives by him.

   विश्व से परे और नित्य, फिर भी स्वयं विश्व रूप, नारायण हरि। यह सब कुछ वही परम पुरुष है, और संसार उन्हीं से जीवित है।

3. पतिं विश्वस्यात्मेश्वरं शाश्वतं शिवमच्युतम्।
   नारायणं महाज्ञेयं विश्वात्मानं परायणम्॥

   Patim vishvasyatmeshvaram shashvatam shivamachyutam, narayanam mahajneyam vishvatmanam parayanam.

   Lord of the universe, ruler of all souls, eternal, auspicious, unfailing; Narayana, the great one to be known, soul of the universe, the final refuge.

   विश्व के स्वामी, सभी आत्माओं के ईश्वर, शाश्वत, मंगलमय, अच्युत; नारायण, जानने योग्य महान तत्व, विश्व की आत्मा और परम आश्रय।

4. नारायणपरो ज्योतिरात्मा नारायणः परः।
   नारायणपरं ब्रह्म तत्त्वं नारायणः परः।
   नारायणपरो ध्याता ध्यानं नारायणः परः॥

   Narayanaparo jyotiratma narayanah parah, narayanaparam brahma tattvam narayanah parah, narayanaparo dhyata dhyanam narayanah parah.

   Narayana is the supreme light and the supreme self. Narayana is the supreme Brahman and the supreme truth. Narayana is the highest one who meditates, and the highest meditation.

   नारायण परम ज्योति और परम आत्मा हैं। नारायण परम ब्रह्म और परम तत्व हैं। नारायण ही श्रेष्ठ ध्यान करने वाले और श्रेष्ठ ध्यान हैं।

5. यच्च किञ्चिज्जगत्सर्वं दृश्यते श्रूयतेऽपि वा।
   अन्तर्बहिश्च तत्सर्वं व्याप्य नारायणः स्थितः॥

   Yachcha kinchijjagatsarvam drishyate shruyatepi va, antarbahishcha tatsarvam vyapya narayanah sthitah.

   Whatever exists in this world, seen or heard, Narayana pervades it all, inside and out.

   इस संसार में जो कुछ भी दिखता या सुनाई देता है, नारायण उस सबको भीतर और बाहर से व्याप्त करके स्थित हैं।

6. अनन्तमव्ययं कविं समुद्रेऽन्तं विश्वशम्भुवम्।
   पद्मकोशप्रतीकाशं हृदयं चाप्यधोमुखम्॥

   Anantamavyayam kavim samudrentam vishvashambhuvam, padmakoshapratikasham hridayam chapyadhomukham.

   Meditate on him, the endless, imperishable, all-knowing one, beyond the ocean of worldly life, the source of the world’s welfare, in the heart, which is like a lotus bud hanging downward.

   उन अनंत, अविनाशी, सर्वज्ञ, संसार सागर से परे, विश्व का कल्याण करने वाले प्रभु का ध्यान हृदय में करो, जो नीचे की ओर झुकी कमल की कली जैसा है।

7. अधो निष्ट्या वितस्त्यान्ते नाभ्यामुपरि तिष्ठति।
   ज्वालमालाकुलं भाती विश्वस्यायतनं महत्॥

   Adho nishtya vitastyante nabhyamupari tishthati, jvalamalakulam bhati vishvasyayatanam mahat.

   The heart rests below the throat, a span above the navel; it is the great abode of the universe, shining as if wreathed in flames.

   हृदय गले के नीचे और नाभि से एक बित्ता ऊपर स्थित है; यह विश्व का महान निवास है, जो ज्वालाओं की माला से घिरा-सा चमकता है।

8. सन्ततं शिलाभिस्तु लम्बत्याकोशसन्निभम्।
   तस्यान्ते सुषिरं सूक्ष्मं तस्मिन् सर्वं प्रतिष्ठितम्॥

   Santatam shilabhistu lambatyakoshasannibham, tasyante sushiram sukshmam tasmin sarvam pratishthitam.

   Surrounded by channels, it hangs like a lotus bud. At its tip is a subtle space, and in it everything is established.

   नाड़ियों से घिरा हुआ यह कमल की कली की तरह लटका है। इसके सिरे पर एक सूक्ष्म छिद्र है, जिसमें सब कुछ स्थित है।

9. तस्य मध्ये महानग्निर्विश्वार्चिर्विश्वतोमुखः।
   सोऽग्रभुग्विभजन्तिष्ठन्नाहारमजरः कविः॥

   Tasya madhye mahanagnirvishvarchirvishvatomukhah, sograbhugvibhajantishthannaharamajarah kavih.

   In its centre is a great fire with flames spreading everywhere and facing all directions; ageless and wise, it eats first and shares out the food.

   उसके बीच एक महान अग्नि है, जिसकी लपटें सब ओर फैली हैं और जिसके मुख सब दिशाओं में हैं; वह अजर और ज्ञानी है, पहले भोजन ग्रहण करती है और फिर उसे बाँटती है।

10. तिर्यगूर्ध्वमधश्शायी रश्मयस्तस्य सन्तता।
    सन्तापयति स्वं देहमापादतलमस्तकः।
    तस्य मध्ये वह्निशिखा अणीयोर्ध्वा व्यवस्थितः॥

    Tiryagurdhvamadhashshayi rashmayastasya santata, santapayati svam dehamapadatalamastakah, tasya madhye vahnishikha aniyordhva vyavasthitah.

    Its rays spread sideways, upward and downward, warming the body from the soles of the feet to the head. In its centre rises a very fine tongue of flame.

    उसकी किरणें तिरछी, ऊपर और नीचे फैली हैं और शरीर को पैरों के तलवों से सिर तक गर्म रखती हैं। उसके बीच एक अति सूक्ष्म लौ ऊपर की ओर उठती है।

11. नीलतोयदमध्यस्थाद्विद्युल्लेखेव भास्वरा।
    नीवारशूकवत्तन्वी पीता भास्वत्यणूपमा॥

    Nilatoyadamadhyasthadvidyullekheva bhasvara, nivarashukavattanvi pita bhasvatyanupama.

    That flame shines like a streak of lightning in a dark rain cloud, slender as the tip of a grain of wild rice, golden, bright and fine as an atom.

    वह लौ काले बादल के बीच बिजली की रेखा जैसी चमकती है, जंगली धान के दाने की नोक जैसी पतली, पीली, उज्ज्वल और अणु जैसी सूक्ष्म है।

12. तस्याः शिखाया मध्ये परमात्मा व्यवस्थितः।
    स ब्रह्म स शिवः स हरिः सेन्द्रः सोऽक्षरः परमः स्वराट्॥

    Tasyah shikhaya madhye paramatma vyavasthitah, sa brahma sa shivah sa harih sendrah soksharah paramah svarat.

    In the middle of that flame dwells the Supreme Self. He is Brahma, he is Shiva, he is Hari, he is Indra; he is the imperishable, the supreme, ruler of himself.

    उस लौ के बीच परमात्मा विराजमान हैं। वही ब्रह्मा हैं, वही शिव हैं, वही हरि हैं, वही इंद्र हैं; वही अविनाशी, परम और स्वयं के स्वामी हैं।

13. ऋतं सत्यं परं ब्रह्म पुरुषं कृष्णपिङ्गलम्।
    ऊर्ध्वरेतं विरूपाक्षं विश्वरूपाय वै नमो नमः॥

    Ritam satyam param brahma purusham krishnapingalam, urdhvaretam virupaksham vishvarupaya vai namo namah.

    Salutations again and again to him whose form is the universe: cosmic order and truth, the supreme Brahman, the Purusha, dark and golden, perfectly chaste, the three-eyed one.

    विश्व रूप प्रभु को बार-बार नमस्कार है, जो ऋत और सत्य हैं, परम ब्रह्म हैं, परम पुरुष हैं, श्याम और पिंगल वर्ण के हैं, ऊर्ध्वरेता और त्रिनेत्र हैं।

14. ॐ नारायणाय विद्महे वासुदेवाय धीमहि।
    तन्नो विष्णुः प्रचोदयात्॥

    Om narayanaya vidmahe vasudevaya dhimahi, tanno vishnuh prachodayat.

    Om. May we know Narayana and meditate on Vasudeva. May Vishnu inspire and guide our minds.

    ॐ। हम नारायण को जानें और वासुदेव का ध्यान करें। भगवान विष्णु हमारी बुद्धि को प्रेरित करें।
