Manu, born of Brahma, who was born from the lotus, kept your two feet always in mind and passed his age of rule happily and without obstacles, telling your stories.

Samaye khalu tatra kardamakhyo druhinachchhayabhavastadiyavacha, dhritasargaraso nisargaramyam bhagavamstvamayutam samah sisheve.

At that time the sage Kardama, born from Brahma’s shadow, eager to create at Brahma’s word, worshipped you, O Lord, so naturally lovely, for ten thousand years.

Garudopari kalameghakamram vilasatkelisarojapanipadmam, hasitollasitananam vibho tvam vapuravishkurushe sma kardamaya.

O all-pervading Lord, you revealed to Kardama your form seated on Garuda, lovely as a dark rain cloud, a lotus for play shining in your lotus hand, your face bright with a smile.

Stuvate pulakavritaya tasmai manuputrim dayitam navapi putrih, kapilam cha sutam svameva pashchatsvagatim chapyanugrihya nirgatobhuh.

As he praised you, thrilled with joy, you blessed him with Manu’s daughter as his wife, nine daughters, Kapila, who would be you yourself, as his son, and later your own abode, and then you left.

Sa manushshatarupaya mahishya gunavatya sutaya cha devahutya, bhavadiritanaradopadishtassamagatkardamamagatipratiksham.

Manu, guided by Narada whom you had sent, came with his queen Shatarupa and his virtuous daughter Devahuti to Kardama, who was waiting for their arrival.

Manunopahritam cha devahutim taruniratnamavapya kardamosau, bhavadarchananirvritopi tasyam dridhashushrushanaya dadhau prasadam.

Kardama received Devahuti, a jewel among young women, offered to him by Manu. Though fulfilled by worshipping you, he was pleased with her steadfast service.

Sa punastvadupasanaprabhavaddayitakamakrite krite vimane, vanitakulasankulo navatma vyaharaddevapatheshu devahutya.

Then, by the power of worshipping you, he made a flying palace to fulfil his wife’s wish, and taking new forms, surrounded by many women, he roamed the paths of the gods with Devahuti.

Shatavarshamatha vyatitya soyam nava kanyah samavapya dhanyarupah, vanayanasamudyatopi kantahitakrittvajjananotsuko nyavatsit.

After a hundred years, having been blessed with nine fine daughters, he was ready to go to the forest, but stayed on for his wife’s sake, eager for your birth.

Nijabhartrigira bhavannisheva niratayamatha deva devahutyam, kapilastvamajayatha jananam prathayishyanparamatmatattvavidyam.

Then, O Lord, as Devahuti, at her husband’s word, devoted herself to serving you, you were born as Kapila, to spread among people the knowledge of the Supreme Self.

Vanameyushi kardame prasanne matasarvasvamupadishanjananyai, kapilatmaka vayumandiresha tvaritam tvam paripahi mam gadaughat.

When the contented Kardama had gone to the forest, you taught your mother the whole essence of your teaching. O Lord of Guruvayur, who took the form of Kapila, quickly save me from my host of ailments.
