Dadrishire kila tatkshanamakshatastanitajrimbhitakampitadiktatah, sushamaya bhavadangatulam gata vrajapadopari varidharastvaya.

At that very moment you saw clouds gathering over Vraja, their endless thunder shaking the edges of the sky, rivalling the beauty of your own body.

Vipulakarakamishraistoyadharanipatairdishi dishi pashupanam mandale dandyamane, kupitaharikritannah pahi pahiti tesham vachanamajita shrinvan ma bibhitetyabhanih.

As the cowherds were battered on every side by torrents of rain mixed with heavy hail, you heard their cry, Save us, save us from what angry Indra has done, and said, O Unconquered: Do not be afraid.

Kula iha khalu gotro daivatam gotrashatrorvihatimiha sa rundhyat ko nu vah samshayosmin, iti sahasitavadi deva govardhanadrim tvaritamudamumulo mulato baladorbhyam.

This mountain is our family deity; surely it will stop the attack of Indra, enemy of mountains. Why do you doubt it? Saying this with a smile, O Lord, you quickly pulled Mount Govardhan up by its roots with your child’s arms.

Tadanu girivarasya proddhritasyasya tavat sikatilamridudeshe durato varitape, parikaraparimishran dhenugopanadhastadupanidadhadadhattha hastapadmena shailam.

Then, under the great mountain held aloft, in a soft sandy place far from all harm, you placed the cows and cowherds with all their belongings, and held up the mountain with your lotus hand.

Bhavati vidhritashaile balikabhirvayasyairapi vihitavilasam kelilapadilole, savidhamilitadhenurekahastena kanduyati sati pashupalastoshamaishanta sarve.

As you held the mountain, playing with the girls and your friends, eager for games and chatter, and with one hand scratching the cows that came close, all the cowherds were filled with joy.

Atimahan giriresha tu vamake karasaroruhi tam dharate chiram, kimidamadbhutamadribalam nviti tvadavalokibhirakathi gopakaih.

This mountain is enormous, yet he holds it so long in his left lotus hand. What wonder is this? Could it be the mountain’s own power? So said the cowherds who watched you.

Ahaha dharshtyamamushya vatorgirim vyathitabahurasavavaropayet, iti haristvayi baddhavigarhano divasasaptakamugramavarshayat.

Ah, the cheek of this lad! His arm will ache and he will put the mountain down. Thinking so and finding fault with you, Indra rained fiercely for seven days.

Achalati tvayi deva padatpadam galitasarvajale cha ghanotkare, apahrite maruta marutam patistvadabhishankitadhih samupadravat.

O Lord, when you did not move a single step, and the masses of clouds, emptied of all their water, were swept off by the wind, Indra, lord of the Maruts, his mind full of fear of you, came running.

Shamamupeyushi varshabhare tada pashupadhenukule cha vinirgate, bhuvi vibho samupahitabhudharah pramuditaih pashupaih parirebhishe.

When the downpour had ceased and the cowherds and cattle had come out, you set the mountain back on the earth, O Lord, and the joyful cowherds embraced you.

Dharanimeva pura dhritavanasi kshitidharoddharane tava kah shramah, iti nutastridashaih kamalapate gurupuralaya palaya mam gadat.

You once held up the whole earth; what effort is lifting a mountain for you? So praised by the gods, O Lord of Lakshmi, who dwells in Guruvayur, protect me from illness.
