Shuddha nishkamadharmaih pravaragurugira tatsvarupam param te shuddham dehendriyadivyapagatamakhilavyaptamavedayante, nanatvasthaulyakarshyadi tu gunajavapussangatodhyasitam te vahnerdaruprabhedeshviva mahadanutadiptatashantatadi.

Those purified by selfless duty come, through a great teacher’s words, to know your supreme, pure nature, free of body and senses and pervading all. Variety, bulk, thinness and the like are only projected onto you through bodies born of the gunas, just as fire seems large or small, blazing or dim, depending on the wood.

Acharyakhyadharastharanisamanumilachchhishyarupottararanyavedhodbhasitena sphutataraparibodhagnina dahyamane, karmalivasanatatkritatanubhuvanabhrantikantarapure dahyabhavena vidyashikhini cha virate tvanmayi khalvavastha.

The teacher is the lower fire-stick and the disciple the upper; rubbed together, they kindle the bright fire of clear knowledge. When it burns up the forest of illusion, the chain of actions, their impressions and the bodies and worlds they create, and the fire of knowledge itself dies out with nothing left to burn, what remains is the state of being one with you.

Evam tvatpraptitonyo na hi khalu nikhilakleshahanerupayo naikantatyantikaste krishivadagadashadgunyashatkarmayogah, durvaikalyairakalya api nigamapathastatphalanyapyavapta mattastvam vismarantah prasajati patane yantyanantanvishadan.

So there is no way to end all suffering other than reaching you. Medicine, statecraft, ritual duties and the various yogas, like farming, are neither certain nor final. The Vedic paths are hard to carry out without fault, and even those who gain their fruits grow intoxicated, forget you, and fall into endless sorrow.

Tvallokadanyalokah kva nu bhayarahito yatparardhadvayante tvadbhitassatyalokepi na sukhavasatih padmabhuh padmanabha, evambhave tvadharmarjitabahutamasam ka katha narakanam tanme tvam chhindhi bandham varada kripanabandho kripapurasindho.

Which world other than yours is free from fear? Even in Satyaloka, Brahma, the lotus-born, does not live at ease, fearing you at the end of his long lifespan, Padmanabha. That being so, what of those in hell, who have piled up darkness through wrongdoing? So cut my bonds, giver of boons, friend of the wretched, ocean of mercy.

Yatharthyattvanmayasyaiva hi mama na vibho vastuto bandhamokshau mayavidyatanubhyam tava tu virachitau svapnabodhopamau tau, baddhe jivadvimuktim gatavati cha bhida tavati tavadeko bhunkte dehadrumastho vishayaphalarasannaparo nirvyathatma.

In truth, since I am made of you, there is really no bondage or liberation for me, Lord; they are created by your powers of ignorance and knowledge, like dreaming and waking. Between the bound and the one freed while living, the only difference is this: one, perched in the tree of the body, eats the fruits of sense pleasure; the other, untroubled, does not.

Jivanmuktatvamevamvidhamiti vachasa kim phalam duradure tannamashuddhabuddherna cha laghu manasah shodhanam bhaktitonyat, tanme vishno krishishthastvayi kritasakalaprarpanam bhaktibharam yena syam mankshu kinchidguruvachanamilattvatprabodhastvadatma.

What use is merely saying, “This is liberation while living”? It is far, far away for one whose mind is impure, and there is no easy way to cleanse the mind other than devotion. So, Vishnu, give me a wealth of devotion that offers everything to you, so that, with your truth awakened by my teacher’s words, I may soon become one with you.

Some here, though they labour over the Vedas, do not know you; alas, their effort is barren, like keeping for years a cow that gives no milk. Speech that does not tell of your world-delighting, sin-removing divine incarnations and your form full of being and consciousness, may I never carry such speech.

Yo yavanyadrisho va tvamiti kimapi naivavagachchhami bhumannevanchananyabhavastvadanubhajanamevadriye chaidyavairin, tvallinganam tvadanghripriyajanasadasam darshanasparshanadirbhuyanme tvatprapujanatinutigunakarmanukirtyadaropi.

Who you are, how great, of what kind, I cannot grasp at all, infinite Lord; so, with undivided heart, I value only worshipping you, enemy of Shishupala. May I see and touch your sacred images and the gatherings of those who love your feet, and may I delight in worshipping you, bowing, praising and singing of your virtues and deeds.

Yadyallabhyeta tattattava samupahritam deva dasosmi teham tvadgehonmarjanadyam bhavatu mama muhuh karma nirmayameva, suryagnibrahmanatmadishu lasitachaturbahumaradhaye tvam tvatpremardratvarupo mama satatamabhishyandatam bhaktiyogah.

Whatever I receive, let it be offered to you, Lord; I am your servant. Let my work, again and again, be sweeping your temple and such tasks, done without pretence. I worship you as the four-armed one shining in the sun, fire, the learned and my own self. May the yoga of devotion, melting with love for you, flow in me always.

Aikyam te danahomavrataniyamatapassankhyayogairdurapam tvatsangenaiva gopyah kila sukrititamah prapuranandasandram, bhakteshvanyeshu bhuyassvapi bahumanushe bhaktimeva tvamasam tanme tvadbhaktimeva dradhaya hara gadankrishna vatalayesha.

Oneness with you is hard to win by charity, sacrifice, vows, discipline, austerity, Sankhya or yoga, yet the gopis, most blessed of all, gained it, dense with bliss, simply by being with you. Even among so many other devotees, you value their devotion most. So make my devotion to you firm, and take away my illnesses, Krishna, Lord of Guruvayur.
