1. মন্দির-বাহির কঠিন কপাট।
   চলইতে শঙ্কিত পঙ্কিল বাট॥

   Mondir-bahir kothino kopat. Choloite shonkito ponkilo bat.

   The door of the house is heavy and shut, and the muddy path outside is frightening to walk.

   घर का दरवाज़ा भारी है, और बाहर कीचड़ भरी राह पर चलना डरावना है।

2. তহি অতি দূরতর বাদর-দোল।
   বারি কি বারই নীল নিচোল॥

   Tohi oti durotoro badoro-dol. Bari ki baroi nilo nichol.

   And far out there the rain clouds are churning; can a blue veil keep off such rain?

   उस पर दूर-दूर तक बादल उमड़ रहे हैं; क्या नीली ओढ़नी इस बारिश को रोक पाएगी?

3. সুন্দরি, কৈছে করবি অভিসার।
   হরি রহু মানস-সুরধুনী-পার॥

   Sundori, koichhe korobi obhishar. Hori rohu manosho-shurodhuni-par.

   Lovely one, how will you go to meet your beloved? Hari waits across the Manasa Ganga.

   सुंदरी, तुम अभिसार कैसे करोगी? हरि तो मानस-गंगा के उस पार हैं।

4. ঘন ঘন ঝনঝন বজর-নিপাত।
   শুনইতে শ্রবণে মরমে মরি যাত॥

   Ghono ghono jhonojhono bojoro-nipat. Shunoite shrobone morome mori jat.

   Again and again thunderbolts crash down; just hearing them makes one die of fright inside.

   बार-बार कड़कड़ाती बिजलियाँ गिर रही हैं; उन्हें सुनकर ही भीतर तक प्राण काँप जाते हैं।

5. দশ দিশ দামিনী দহই বিথার।
   হেরইতে উচকই লোচন-তার॥

   Dosho dish damini dohoi bithar. Heroite uchokoi lochono-tar.

   Lightning blazes across all ten directions; seeing it, the eyes start and flinch.

   दसों दिशाओं में बिजली फैलकर जल रही है; उसे देखकर आँखें चौंक उठती हैं।

6. ইথে যদি সুন্দরি তেজবি গেহ।
   প্রেমক লাগি উপেখবি দেহ॥

   Ithe jodi sundori tejobi geho. Premok lagi upekhobi deho.

   If in this weather, lovely one, you leave your home, you will be risking your very body for love’s sake.

   सुंदरी, ऐसे मौसम में अगर तुम घर छोड़ोगी, तो प्रेम के लिए अपने शरीर की भी परवाह नहीं करोगी।

7. গোবিন্দদাস কহ ইথে কি বিচার।
   ছুটল বাণ কিয়ে যতনে নিবার॥

   Gobindodas koho ithe ki bichar. Chhutolo ban kiye jotone nibar.

   Govindadas says: what is there to weigh here? Can an arrow once loosed be held back by any effort?

   गोविंददास कहते हैं: इसमें सोचना क्या? छूटा हुआ बाण क्या किसी यत्न से रोका जा सकता है?
