1. श्री गुरु चरण सरोज छवि, निज मन मन्दिर धारि।
   सुमरि गजानन शारदा, गहि आशिष त्रिपुरारि॥

   Shri Guru charan saroj chhavi, nij man mandir dhari. Sumari Gajanan Sharada, gahi ashish Tripurari.

   Holding the beauty of my Guru’s lotus feet in the temple of my mind, remembering Ganesha and Sharada, and taking the blessing of Shiva, destroyer of the three cities,

   श्री गुरु के चरण-कमलों की छवि को अपने मन-मंदिर में धारण कर, गजानन और शारदा का स्मरण करके और त्रिपुरारि शिव का आशीर्वाद लेकर,

2. बुद्धिहीन जन जानिये, अवगुणों का भण्डार।
   बरणौं परशुराम सुयश, निज मति के अनुसार॥

   Buddhiheen jan janiye, avagunon ka bhandar. Baranaun Parshuram suyash, nij mati ke anusar.

   though you should know me as one without wisdom, a storehouse of faults, I describe the glory of Parashuram as best my mind allows.

   मुझे बुद्धिहीन और अवगुणों का भंडार जानिए; फिर भी मैं अपनी बुद्धि के अनुसार परशुराम का सुयश वर्णन करता हूँ।

3. जय प्रभु परशुराम सुख सागर।
   जय मुनीश गुण ज्ञान दिवाकर॥

   Jai Prabhu Parshuram sukh sagar. Jai Munish gun gyan divakar.

   Victory to Lord Parashuram, ocean of joy. Victory to the lord of sages, a sun of virtue and knowledge.

   सुख के सागर प्रभु परशुराम की जय। गुण और ज्ञान के सूर्य मुनीश्वर की जय।

4. भृगुकुल मुकुट विकट रणधीरा।
   क्षत्रिय तेज मुख संत शरीरा॥

   Bhrigukul mukut vikat randhira. Kshatriya tej mukh sant sharira.

   Crown of the Bhrigu clan, fearsome and steadfast in battle, your face blazes with a warrior’s fire while your body is a saint’s.

   आप भृगुकुल के मुकुट और रण में अडिग वीर हैं; आपके मुख पर क्षत्रिय का तेज है और शरीर संत का।

5. जमदग्नी सुत रेणुका जाया।
   तेज प्रताप सकल जग छाया॥

   Jamadagni sut Renuka jaya. Tej pratap sakal jag chhaya.

   Son of Jamadagni, born of Renuka, your radiance and might spread over the whole world.

   जमदग्नि के पुत्र और रेणुका से जन्मे, आपका तेज और प्रताप सारे जगत में छाया है।

6. मास बैसाख सित पच्छ उदारा।
   तृतीया पुनर्वसु मनुहारा॥

   Mas Baisakh sit pachchh udara. Tritiya Punarvasu manuhara.

   It was the bright fortnight of the month of Vaishakh, on the lovely third day, under the Punarvasu star,

   वैशाख मास का शुक्ल पक्ष था, सुहावनी तृतीया तिथि और पुनर्वसु नक्षत्र था,

7. प्रहर प्रथम निशा शीत न घामा।
   तिथि प्रदोष व्यापि सुखधामा॥

   Prahar pratham nisha sheet na ghama. Tithi pradosh vyapi sukhdhama.

   in the first watch of the night, neither cold nor hot, at the pleasant hour of twilight,

   रात का पहला पहर था, न ठंड थी न गर्मी, और सुखद प्रदोष काल था,

8. तब ऋषि कुटीर रुदन शिशु कीन्हा।
   रेणुका कोखि जनम हरि लीन्हा॥

   Tab rishi kutir rudan shishu kinha. Renuka kokhi janam Hari linha.

   when a baby cried in the sage’s hut: Hari had taken birth from Renuka’s womb.

   तब ऋषि की कुटिया में शिशु रोया; हरि ने रेणुका की कोख से जन्म लिया।

9. निज घर उच्च ग्रह छः ठाढ़े।
   मिथुन राशि राहु सुख गाढ़े॥

   Nij ghar uchch grah chhah thadhe. Mithun rashi Rahu sukh gadhe.

   Six planets stood exalted in their own houses, and Rahu in Gemini brought deep good fortune.

   छह ग्रह अपने उच्च स्थान पर थे, और मिथुन राशि में राहु गहरा सुख दे रहा था।

10. तेज ज्ञान मिल नर तनु धारा।
    जमदग्नी घर ब्रह्म अवतारा॥

    Tej gyan mil nar tanu dhara. Jamadagni ghar Brahm avatara.

    Radiance and wisdom together took a human body: Brahman itself was born in Jamadagni’s home.

    तेज और ज्ञान ने मिलकर मनुष्य शरीर धारण किया; जमदग्नि के घर ब्रह्म ने अवतार लिया।

11. धरा राम शिशु पावन नामा।
    नाम जपत जग लह विश्रामा॥

    Dhara Ram shishu pavan nama. Nam japat jag lah vishrama.

    The child was given the holy name Ram, and by chanting that name the world finds rest.

    शिशु का पावन नाम राम रखा गया, जिसे जपकर जगत को विश्राम मिलता है।

12. भाल त्रिपुण्ड जटा सिर सुन्दर।
    कांधे मुंज जनेऊ मनहर॥

    Bhal tripund jata sir sundar. Kandhe munj janeu manhar.

    Three lines of ash on your forehead, lovely matted locks on your head, and a charming sacred thread of munja grass on your shoulder.

    माथे पर त्रिपुंड, सिर पर सुंदर जटाएँ और कंधे पर मूँज का मनोहर जनेऊ है।

13. मंजु मेखला कटि मृगछाला।
    रुद्र माला बर वक्ष विशाला॥

    Manju mekhala kati mrigchhala. Rudra mala bar vaksh vishala.

    A graceful girdle and a deerskin at your waist, and a fine rudraksha garland on your broad chest.

    कमर में सुंदर मेखला और मृगछाला है, और विशाल छाती पर रुद्राक्ष की सुंदर माला है।

14. पीत बसन सुन्दर तनु सोहें।
    कंध तूणीर धनुष मन मोहें॥

    Peet basan sundar tanu sohen. Kandh tunir dhanush man mohen.

    Yellow garments grace your handsome body, and the quiver and bow on your shoulder charm the heart.

    सुंदर शरीर पर पीले वस्त्र शोभा देते हैं, और कंधे पर तरकश और धनुष मन मोह लेते हैं।

15. वेद पुराण श्रुति स्मृति ज्ञाता।
    क्रोध रूप तुम जग विख्याता॥

    Ved Puran shruti smriti gyata. Krodh roop tum jag vikhyata.

    You know the Vedas, the Puranas, the scriptures and the law books, and the world knows you as wrath embodied.

    आप वेद, पुराण, श्रुति और स्मृति के ज्ञाता हैं, और क्रोध के रूप में जगत में विख्यात हैं।

16. दायें हाथ श्रीपरशु उठावा।
    वेद संहिता बायें सुहावा॥

    Dayen hath Shriparashu uthava. Ved Samhita bayen suhava.

    In your right hand you raise the holy axe, and in your left you hold the Veda Samhita.

    दाएँ हाथ में आप पवित्र फरसा उठाए हैं, और बाएँ हाथ में वेद संहिता शोभा देती है।

17. विद्यावान गुण ज्ञान अपारा।
    शास्त्र शस्त्र दोउ पर अधिकारा॥

    Vidyavan gun gyan apara. Shastra shastra dou par adhikara.

    Learned, of boundless virtue and knowledge, you are master of both scripture and weapons.

    आप विद्वान हैं, अपार गुण और ज्ञान वाले हैं; शास्त्र और शस्त्र दोनों पर आपका अधिकार है।

18. भुवन चारिदस अरु नवखंडा।
    चहुं दिशि सुयश प्रताप प्रचंडा॥

    Bhuvan charidas aru navkhanda. Chahun dishi suyash pratap prachanda.

    Across the fourteen worlds and the nine regions of the earth, in all four directions, your glory and might are immense.

    चौदह भुवनों और नौ खंडों में, चारों दिशाओं में आपका सुयश और प्रचंड प्रताप फैला है।

19. एक बार गणपति के संगा।
    जूझे भृगुकुल कमल पतंगा॥

    Ek bar Ganpati ke sanga. Joojhe Bhrigukul kamal patanga.

    Once you, the sun that opens the lotus of the Bhrigu clan, fought with Ganapati.

    एक बार भृगुकुल रूपी कमल के सूर्य परशुराम गणपति से भिड़ गए।

20. दांत तोड़ रण कीन्ह विरामा।
    एक दंत गणपति भयो नामा॥

    Dant tod ran kinh virama. Ek dant Ganpati bhayo nama.

    You broke his tusk and ended the fight, and so Ganapati came to be called Ekadanta, the one-tusked.

    उनका दाँत तोड़कर आपने युद्ध रोका, और तभी से गणपति का नाम एकदंत पड़ा।

21. कार्तवीर्य अर्जुन भूपाला।
    सहस्रबाहु दुर्जन विकराला॥

    Kartavirya Arjun bhupala. Sahasrabahu durjan vikrala.

    There was King Kartavirya Arjuna, the thousand-armed, wicked and terrible.

    कार्तवीर्य अर्जुन नाम का एक राजा था, हजार भुजाओं वाला, दुष्ट और भयंकर।

22. सुरगऊ लखि जमदग्नी पांहीं।
    रखिहहुं निज घर ठानि मन मांहीं॥

    Surgau lakhi Jamadagni panhin. Rakhihahun nij ghar thani man manhin.

    Seeing the divine cow with Jamadagni, he resolved in his mind to keep it in his own house.

    जमदग्नि के पास दिव्य गाय (कामधेनु) देखकर उसने मन में ठान लिया कि उसे अपने घर रखेगा।

23. मिली न मांगि तब कीन्ह लड़ाई।
    भयो पराजित जगत हंसाई॥

    Mili na mangi tab kinh ladai. Bhayo parajit jagat hansai.

    When asking did not get it, he fought for it, but he was defeated and became the laughing stock of the world.

    माँगने पर नहीं मिली तो उसने लड़ाई की, पर हार गया और जगत में उसकी हँसी हुई।

24. तन खल हृदय भई रिस गाढ़ी।
    रिपुता मुनि सौं अतिशय बाढ़ी॥

    Tan khal hriday bhai ris gadhi. Riputa muni saun atishay badhi.

    Deep anger took hold of the wicked king’s heart, and his hatred for the sage grew fierce.

    उस दुष्ट के हृदय में गहरा क्रोध भर गया, और मुनि से उसकी शत्रुता बहुत बढ़ गई।

25. ऋषिवर रहे ध्यान लवलीना।
    तिन्ह पर शक्तिघात नृप कीन्हा॥

    Rishivar rahe dhyan lavlina. Tinh par shaktighat nrip kinha.

    While the great sage was absorbed in meditation, the king struck him with a spear.

    श्रेष्ठ ऋषि ध्यान में लीन थे, तब राजा ने उन पर शक्ति (भाले) से वार किया।

26. लगत शक्ति जमदग्नी निपाता।
    मनहुं क्षत्रिकुल बाम विधाता॥

    Lagat shakti Jamadagni nipata. Manahun Kshatrikul bam vidhata.

    Struck by the spear, Jamadagni fell, as if fate itself had turned against the warrior race.

    शक्ति लगते ही जमदग्नि गिर पड़े, मानो विधाता क्षत्रिय कुल से रूठ गया हो।

27. पितु बध मातु रुदन सुनि भारा।
    भा अति क्रोध मन शोक अपारा॥

    Pitu badh matu rudan suni bhara. Bha ati krodh man shok apara.

    Hearing of his father’s killing and his mother’s bitter weeping, Parashuram was filled with fury and endless grief.

    पिता का वध और माता का भारी रुदन सुनकर परशुराम के मन में बहुत क्रोध और अपार शोक हुआ।

28. कर गहि तीक्षण परशु कराला।
    दुष्ट हनन कीन्हेउ तत्काला॥

    Kar gahi tikshan parashu karala. Dusht hanan kinheu tatkala.

    Grasping his sharp, terrible axe, he slew the wicked at once.

    हाथ में तीखा, भयंकर फरसा लेकर उन्होंने तुरंत दुष्टों का संहार किया।

29. क्षत्रिय रुधिर पितु तर्पण कीन्हा।
    पितु बध प्रतिशोध सुत लीन्हा॥

    Kshatriya rudhir pitu tarpan kinha. Pitu badh pratishodh sut linha.

    With the warriors’ blood he made the offering for his father, and so the son avenged his father’s death.

    क्षत्रियों के रक्त से उन्होंने पिता का तर्पण किया; इस तरह पुत्र ने पिता के वध का प्रतिशोध लिया।

30. इक्कीस बार भू क्षत्रिय बिहीनी।
    छीन धरा बिप्रन्ह कहँ दीनी॥

    Ikkis bar bhu kshatriya bihini. Chheen dhara bipranh kahan dini.

    Twenty-one times he rid the earth of warrior kings, and taking the land from them, gave it to the Brahmins.

    इक्कीस बार उन्होंने पृथ्वी को क्षत्रियों से रहित किया, और धरती छीनकर ब्राह्मणों को दे दी।

31. जुग त्रेता कर चरित सुहाई।
    शिव धनु भंग कीन्ह रघुराई॥

    Jug Treta kar charit suhai. Shiv dhanu bhang kinh Raghurai.

    Then comes a lovely tale of the Treta age: Ram, lord of the Raghus, broke Shiva’s bow.

    त्रेता युग का एक सुंदर प्रसंग है: रघुराई राम ने शिव का धनुष तोड़ा।

32. गुरु धनु भंजक रिपु करि जाना।
    तब समूल नाश ताहि ठाना॥

    Guru dhanu bhanjak ripu kari jana. Tab samool nash tahi thana.

    Taking the one who broke his guru’s bow for an enemy, Parashuram resolved to destroy him completely.

    गुरु के धनुष को तोड़ने वाले को शत्रु मानकर उन्होंने उसका समूल नाश करने की ठानी।

33. कर जोरि तब राम रघुराई।
    बिनय कीन्ही पुनि शक्ति दिखाई॥

    Kar jori tab Ram Raghurai. Binay kinhi puni shakti dikhai.

    Then Ram, lord of the Raghus, joined his palms and spoke humbly, and then revealed his power.

    तब रघुराई राम ने हाथ जोड़कर विनती की, फिर अपनी शक्ति दिखाई।

34. भीष्म द्रोण कर्ण बलवन्ता।
    भये शिष्य द्वापर महँ अनन्ता॥

    Bhishm Dron Karn balvanta. Bhaye shishya Dvapar mahan ananta.

    In the Dvapara age, mighty Bhishma, Drona and Karna, and countless others, became your disciples.

    द्वापर युग में बलवान भीष्म, द्रोण, कर्ण और अनगिनत अन्य आपके शिष्य बने।

35. शस्त्र विद्या देह सुयश कमावा।
    गुरु प्रताप दिगन्त फिरावा॥

    Shastra vidya deh suyash kamava. Guru pratap digant phirava.

    By teaching them the science of arms you earned great fame, and spread your glory as a guru to the ends of the earth.

    उन्हें शस्त्र-विद्या देकर आपने सुयश कमाया, और गुरु के रूप में आपका प्रताप दिशाओं के छोर तक फैला।

36. चारों युग तव महिमा गाई।
    सुर मुनि मनुज दनुज समुदाई॥

    Charon yug tav mahima gai. Sur muni manuj danuj samudai.

    Through all four ages, gods, sages, humans and demons alike have sung your greatness.

    चारों युगों में देवता, मुनि, मनुष्य और दानव सबने आपकी महिमा गाई है।

37. दे कश्यप सों संपदा भाई।
    तप कीन्हा महेन्द्र गिरि जाई॥

    De Kashyap son sampada bhai. Tap kinha Mahendra giri jai.

    Giving all your wealth, the earth itself, to the sage Kashyapa, you went to Mount Mahendra to do penance.

    सारी संपदा (पृथ्वी) कश्यप ऋषि को देकर आप महेंद्र पर्वत पर जाकर तप करने लगे।

38. अब लौं लीन समाधि नाथा।
    सकल लोक नावइ नित माथा॥

    Ab laun leen samadhi natha. Sakal lok navai nit matha.

    Lord, you remain absorbed in samadhi to this day, and all the worlds bow their heads to you every day.

    हे नाथ, आप आज तक समाधि में लीन हैं, और सारे लोक नित्य आपको शीश नवाते हैं।

39. चारों वर्ण एक सम जाना।
    समदर्शी प्रभु तुम भगवाना॥

    Charon varn ek sam jana. Samdarshi Prabhu tum Bhagvana.

    You see all four classes of society as equal; Lord, you look on all alike.

    आप चारों वर्णों को एक समान मानते हैं; हे प्रभु, आप समदर्शी भगवान हैं।

40. लहहिं चारि फल शरण तुम्हारी।
    देव दनुज नर भूप भिखारी॥

    Lahahin chari phal sharan tumhari. Dev danuj nar bhoop bhikhari.

    Gods, demons, humans, kings and beggars alike gain the four fruits of life by taking refuge in you.

    देवता, दानव, मनुष्य, राजा और भिखारी सब आपकी शरण में आकर चारों फल पाते हैं।

41. जो यह पढ़ै श्री परशु चालीसा।
    तिन्ह अनुकूल सदा गौरीसा॥

    Jo yah padhai Shri Parashu Chalisa. Tinh anukool sada Gaurisa.

    Whoever reads this Shri Parashuram Chalisa, Shiva, lord of Gauri, is always kind to them.

    जो यह श्री परशुराम चालीसा पढ़ता है, गौरीपति शिव सदा उस पर प्रसन्न रहते हैं।

42. पूर्णेन्दु निसि बासर स्वामी।
    बसहु हृदय प्रभु अन्तरयामी॥

    Poornendu nisi basar Swami. Basahu hriday Prabhu antaryami.

    Lord, radiant as the full moon, you who know every heart, dwell in my heart night and day.

    पूर्ण चंद्रमा जैसे उज्ज्वल, अंतर्यामी प्रभु, दिन-रात मेरे हृदय में बसिए।

43. परशुराम को चारु चरित, मेटत सकल अज्ञान।
    शरण पड़े को देत प्रभु, सदा सुयश सम्मान॥

    Parshuram ko charu charit, metat sakal agyan. Sharan pade ko det Prabhu, sada suyash samman.

    The beautiful story of Parashuram wipes away all ignorance. To those who take refuge in him, the Lord always gives a good name and honour.

    परशुराम का सुंदर चरित्र सारा अज्ञान मिटा देता है। शरण में आए हुए को प्रभु सदा सुयश और सम्मान देते हैं।

44. भृगुदेव कुलं भानुं, सहस्रबाहुर्मर्दनम्।
    रेणुकानयनानन्दं, परशुं वन्दे विप्रधनम्॥

    Bhrigudeva kulam bhanum, sahasrabahurmardanam. Renukanayananandam, parashum vande vipradhanam.

    I bow to Parashuram, the sun of the Bhrigu clan, crusher of the thousand-armed king, joy of Renuka’s eyes, the treasure of the Brahmins.

    भृगु कुल के सूर्य, सहस्रबाहु का मर्दन करने वाले, रेणुका के नेत्रों को आनंद देने वाले, ब्राह्मणों के धन परशुराम को मैं प्रणाम करता हूँ।
