Ami Oi Khede Khed Kori
Ami oi khede khed kori. Oi je tumi Ma thakite amar, jaga ghore hoy churi.
This is what I lament: that with you there, Mother, my house is robbed while I am awake.
Mone kori tomar nam kori, abar shomoye pashori. Ami bujhechhi jenechhi ashoy peyechhi, e shob tomari chaturi.
I mean to chant your name, yet when the moment comes I forget. I have understood, I know, I have caught your meaning: this is all your cleverness.
Jodi dite pete nite khete, ditam khaowaitam tomari.
You gave nothing, received nothing, took nothing, ate nothing: is that my fault? Had you given, received, taken and eaten, I would have given and fed you from what is yours.
Josh opojosh shuros kuros, shokol ros tomari. Ogo rose theke roshobhongo, keno koro Roseshwori.
Fame and disgrace, sweet and bitter, every flavour of life is yours. Then why, Queen of all delight, do you spoil the joy while dwelling in it?
Proshad bole mon diyechho, monero ankhthari. Oma tomar srishti drishtipora, mishti bole ghure mori.
Prasad says: you gave me a mind, and with it the mind’s own tricks. Mother, your creation is bitter to behold, yet I wander to my death thinking it sweet.
