1. মায়ের মূর্তি গড়াতে চাই, মনের ভ্রমে মাটি দিয়ে।
   মা বেটি কি মাটির মেয়ে, মিছে খাটি মাটি নিয়ে॥

   Mayer murti gorate chai, moner bhrome mati diye. Ma beti ki matir meye, michhe khati mati niye.

   In my mind’s delusion I want to shape the Mother’s image out of clay. But is Mother a girl made of clay? I toil over clay in vain.

   मन के भ्रम में मैं मिट्टी से माँ की मूर्ति गढ़ना चाहता हूँ। पर क्या माँ मिट्टी की बेटी है? मैं व्यर्थ मिट्टी लेकर खट रहा हूँ।

2. করে অসি মুণ্ডমালা, সে মা-টি কি মাটির বালা।
   মাটিতে কি মনের জ্বালা, দিতে পারে নিভাইয়ে॥

   Kore oshi mundomala, she Ma-ti ki matir bala. Matite ki moner jala, dite pare nibhaiye.

   She holds a sword and wears a garland of heads; is such a Mother a doll of clay? Can clay put out the burning in my heart?

   हाथ में खड्ग, गले में मुंडमाला; क्या ऐसी माँ मिट्टी की गुड़िया है? क्या मिट्टी मन की जलन बुझा सकती है?

3. শুনেছি মার বরণ কালো, সে কালোতে ভুবন আলো।
   মায়ের মত হয় কি কালো, মাটিতে রং মাখাইয়ে॥

   Shunechhi Mar boron kalo, she kalote bhubon alo. Mayer moto hoy ki kalo, matite rong makhaiye.

   I have heard Mother’s colour is black, yet that black lights up the world. Can smearing paint on clay make a black like hers?

   सुना है माँ का रंग काला है, पर उसी कालेपन से संसार उजला है। क्या मिट्टी पर रंग पोतकर माँ जैसा काला बन सकता है?

4. মায়ের আছে তিনটি নয়ন, চন্দ্র সূর্য আর হুতাশন।
   কোন কারিগর আছে এমন, দিবে একটি নিরমিয়ে॥

   Mayer achhe tinti noyon, chondro shurjo ar hutashon. Kon karigor achhe emon, dibe ekti nirmiye.

   Mother has three eyes: the moon, the sun and fire. Is there a craftsman who could make even one of them?

   माँ के तीन नेत्र हैं: चंद्रमा, सूर्य और अग्नि। ऐसा कौन कारीगर है जो उनमें से एक भी बना दे?

5. অশিবনাশিনী কালী, সে কি মাটি খড়-বিচালি।
   কে ঘুচাবে মনের কালি, প্রসাদে কালী দেখাইয়ে॥

   Oshibonashini Kali, she ki mati khor-bichali. Ke ghuchabe moner kali, Proshade Kali dekhaiye.

   Kali destroys all that is inauspicious; is she just clay and straw? Who will wipe the darkness from my mind by showing Kali to Prasad?

   काली अमंगल का नाश करने वाली हैं; क्या वे मिट्टी, घास और पुआल हैं? प्रसाद को काली के दर्शन कराकर कौन उसके मन की कालिख मिटाएगा?
