Gurumukham anadheethya praaha vedhaan aseshaan, narapathi pariklupthum sulkam aadhaathukaamah, svasuram amaravandhyam Ranganaathasya saakshaath, dhvijakula thilakam tham Vishnuchiththam namaami.

I bow to Vishnuchitta, jewel of the Brahmin clan, who without studying under any guru expounded all the Vedas to win the prize the king had set; honoured by the gods, he is father-in-law to Ranganatha himself.

Minnaar thadamadhil soozh Villipuththoor endru orukaal, sonnaar kazharkamalam soodinom munnaal, kizhiyaruththaan endru uraiththom keezhmaiyinir serum, vazhiyaruththom nenjame vandhu.

We wear on our heads the lotus feet of anyone who even once says ‘Villiputtur, ringed by broad, gleaming walls.’ O heart, once we declared, ‘He won the purse,’ we cut off every path that leads to baseness.

Paandiyan kondaadap Pattarbiraan vandhaan endru, eendiya sangam eduththoodha vendiya, vedhangal odhi viraindhu kizhiyaruththaan, paadhangal yaamudaiya patru.

As the Pandya king celebrated and the gathered crowd blew conches crying ‘Bhattarbiran has come!’, he swiftly expounded the Vedas as required and won the purse: his feet are our refuge.

Pallaandu pallaandu pallaayiraththaandu palakodi nooraayiram, mallaanda thinthol Manivannaa un sevvadi sevvi thirukkaappu.

For many years, many years, many thousands of years, for countless millions of years: O gem-coloured Lord, whose strong shoulders conquered the wrestlers, may your lovely red feet be forever safe.

Adiyomodum ninnodum pirivindri aayiram pallaandu, vadivaai nin vala maarbinil vaazhgindra mangaiyum pallaandu, vadivaar sodhi valaththuraiyum sudaraazhiyum pallaandu, padaipor pukku muzhangum appaanchasanniyamum pallaande.

May we, your servants, and you stay together without parting for many thousands of years; long live Lakshmi who dwells in beauty on the right of your chest; long live the blazing discus in your right hand; long live the Panchajanya conch that roars as it goes into battle.

Vaazhaatpattu nindreer ulleerel vandhu mannum manamum konmin, koozhaatpattu nindreergalai engal kuzhuvinil pugudhalottom, ezhaatkaalum pazhippilom naangal iraakkadhar vaazh Ilangai, paazhaalaagap padai porudhaanukkup pallaandu kooruthume.

If any of you have given yourselves to his service for true life, come and join the holy work; those who serve only for food we will not let into our group. For seven generations we have been blameless, and we sing ‘Long live!’ to the Lord who fought so that Lanka, home of the rakshasas, lay in ruins.

Edu nilaththil iduvadhan munnam vandhu engal kuzhaam pugundhu, koodu manamudaiyeergal varamboli vandhu ollaik koodumino, naadum nagaramum nangariya namo Naaraayanaaya endru, paadu manamudaip paththarulleer vandhu pallaandu koorumine.

You who long for the final goal, come and join our group before your time runs out; come quickly, holding nothing back. You devotees whose hearts long to sing ‘Namo Narayanaya’ so that town and country know it: come and sing ‘Long live!’

Andak kulaththukku adhipadhiyaagi asurar iraakkadharai, indaik kulaththai eduththuk kalaindha Irudigesan thanakku, thondak kulaththil ulleer vandhu adithozhudhu aayira naamam solli, pandaik kulaththaith thavirndhu pallaandu pallaayiraththaandu enmine.

You who belong to the clan of servants, come and worship the feet of Hrishikesha, lord of all the worlds, who rooted out the whole tangled clan of asuras and rakshasas; chant his thousand names, leave your old ways behind, and say, ‘Many years, many thousands of years!’

Endhai thandhai thandhai thandhai tham mooththappan ezhpadikaal thodangi, vandhu vazhivazhi aatcheigindrom thiruvonath thiruvizhavil, andhiyam podhil ariyuruvaagi ariyai azhiththavanai, pandhanai theerap pallaandu pallaayiraththaandu endru paadudhume.

From my father, his father, his father and his grandfather, for seven generations, we have served you, line after line. At the holy Thiruvonam festival we sing ‘Many years, many thousands of years!’ to the Lord who at dusk took the form of a lion and destroyed his foe, so that his weariness may be eased.

Theeyir poligindra senjudaraazhi thigazh thiruchchakkaraththin, koyir poriyaale otrundu nindru kudikudi aatcheigindrom, maayap porupadai Vaananai aayiran tholum pozhi kurudhi, paayach chuzhatriya aazhi vallaanukkup pallaandu kooruthume.

Marked with the temple seal of the holy discus that glows red, brighter than fire, we have served you for generations. We sing ‘Long live!’ to the master of the discus, who whirled it so that blood poured from all thousand arms of Bana, the cunning warrior.

Neyyidai nalladhor sorum niyadhamum aththaanich chevagamum, kaiyadaikkaayum kazhuththukkup poonodu kaadhukkuk kundalamum, meiyida nalladhor saandhamum thandhu ennai velluyiraakka valla, paiyudai naagap pagaik kodiyaanukkup pallaandu kooruvane.

He gave me fine rice with ghee, daily service in his hall, betel to hold, jewels for my neck and rings for my ears, and good sandal paste for my body, and he can make my soul pure: to him whose banner bears Garuda, foe of the hooded serpent, I say ‘Long live!’

Uduththuk kalaindha nin peedhagavaadai uduththuk kalaththadhundu, thoduththa thuzhaai malar soodik kalaindhana soodum iththondargalom, viduththa thisaik karumam thiruththith thiruvonath thiruvizhavil, paduththa painnaaganaip palli kondaanukkup pallaandu kooruthume.

We are servants who wear the yellow silk you wore and set aside, eat from the plate you ate from, and wear the tulsi garlands you wore and took off. Having done the tasks you sent us on in every direction, at the holy Thiruvonam festival we sing ‘Long live!’ to the Lord who reclines on the hooded serpent.

Ennaal emperumaan undhanakku adiyom endru ezhuththuppatta, annaale adiyongal adikkudil veedupetru uyndhadhu kaan, sennaal thotrith thirumadhuraiyul silaikuniththu aindhalaiya, painnaagath thalaip paayndhavane unnaip pallaandu kooruthume.

My Lord, the very day it was written that we are your servants, our whole line of servants was saved and set free. You who were born on an auspicious day, bent the bow in holy Mathura and leapt onto the heads of the five-headed hooded serpent: we sing ‘Long live!’ to you.

Alvazhakku ondrum illaa ani Kottiyar kon abimaana thungan, selvanaip polath Thirumaale naanum unakkup pazhavadiyen, nalvagaiyaal namo Naaraayanaa endru naamam pala paravi, palvagaiyaalum paviththirane unnaip pallaandu kooruvane.

Tirumal, like Selvanambi, the noble chief of beautiful Tirukkottiyur where nothing unjust is done, I too am your servant of old. Praising your many names rightly with ‘Namo Narayana,’ I wish you long life in every way, O Pure One.

Pallaandu endru paviththiranaip paramettiyaich chaarngam ennum, villaandaan thannai Villipuththoor Vittuchiththan virumbiya sol, nallaandu endru navindru uraippaar namo Naaraayanaaya endru, pallaandum paramaathmanaich choozhndhirundhu eththuvar pallaande.

Those who gladly recite these words, loved by Vishnuchitta of Villiputtur, wishing many years to the Pure One, the Supreme who wields the bow called Sharnga, will stay close around the Supreme Self, praising him with ‘Namo Narayanaya’ for years without end.
