1. பாலும் தெளிதேனும் பாகும் பருப்புமிவை, நாலும் கலந்துனக்கு நான் தருவேன் கோலம்செய், துங்கக் கரிமுகத்துத் தூமணியே நீயெனக்குச், சங்கத் தமிழ் மூன்றும் தா.

   Paalum thelitheenum paagum paruppumivai, naalum kalandhunakku naan tharuven kolamsei, thungak karimugaththu thoomaniye neeyenakkuch, sangath thamizh moondrum thaa.

   Milk, clear honey, jaggery syrup and lentils: I will mix these four and offer them to you. O pure jewel with the noble elephant face, give me in return the three branches of classical Tamil: poetry, music and drama.

   दूध, साफ़ शहद, गुड़ की चाशनी और दाल — इन चारों को मिलाकर मैं तुम्हें अर्पित करूँगा। हे सुंदर गज-मुख वाले निर्मल रत्न, बदले में मुझे शास्त्रीय तमिल की तीनों विधाएँ दो: काव्य, संगीत और नाटक।

2. சீதக் களபச் செந்தா மரைப்பூம் பாதச் சிலம்பு பலவிசை பாடப்

   Seedhak kalabach chendhaamaraip poom, paadhach chilambu palavisai paadap

   As the anklets on his cool, sandal-smeared feet, soft as red lotuses, sing many tunes,

   उनके शीतल चंदन लगे, लाल कमल जैसे कोमल चरणों की पायल अनेक सुर गाती है,

3. பொன்னரை ஞாணும் பூந்துகில் ஆடையும் வன்னமருங்கில் வளர்ந்தழ கெறிப்பப்

   Ponnarai naanum poonthugil aadaiyum, vannamarungil valarndhazhagerippap

   as the golden waist-cord and the soft silk garment on his lovely waist glow with ever-growing beauty,

   उनकी सुंदर कमर पर सोने की करधनी और कोमल रेशमी वस्त्र बढ़ती सुंदरता से चमकते हैं,

4. பேழை வயிறும் பெரும்பாரக் கோடும் வேழ முகமும் விளங்குசிந் தூரமும்

   Pezhai vayirum perumbaarak kodum, vezha mugamum vilangu sindhooramum

   with his round belly, his great heavy tusk, his elephant face and the gleaming red sindoor,

   उनका गोल पेट, बड़ा भारी दाँत, हाथी का मुख और चमकता लाल सिंदूर,

5. அஞ்சு கரமும் அங்குச பாசமும் நெஞ்சிற் குடிகொண்ட நீல மேனியும்

   Anju karamum angusa paasamum, nenjir kudikonda neela meniyum

   his five hands holding the goad and the noose, and his dark blue form that has made its home in my heart,

   अंकुश और पाश थामे उनके पाँच हाथ, और मेरे मन में घर कर चुका उनका नीला शरीर,

6. நான்ற வாயும் நாலிரு புயமும் மூன்று கண்ணும் மும்மதச் சுவடும்

   Naandra vaayum naaliru puyamum, moondru kannum mummadhach chuvadum

   his hanging trunk and mouth, his eight shoulders, his three eyes and the three marks of musth,

   लटकती सूँड़ और मुख, आठ कंधे, तीन आँखें और मद के तीन निशान,

7. இரண்டு செவியும் இலங்குபொன் முடியும் திரண்டமுப் புரிநூல் திகழொளி மார்பும்

   Irandu seviyum ilangu pon mudiyum, thiranda muppuri nool thigazholi maarbum

   his two ears, his shining golden crown, and his radiant chest with its thick three-stranded sacred thread:

   दो कान, चमकता सोने का मुकुट, और मोटे तीन धागों वाले जनेऊ से दमकती छाती —

8. சொற்பதம் கடந்த துரியமெய்ஞ் ஞான அற்புதம் நின்ற கற்பகக் களிறே

   Sorpadham kadandha thuriya meignaana, arpudham nindra karpagak kalire

   O wish-granting elephant, who stands as the wonder of true wisdom, the fourth state beyond all words,

   हे कल्पवृक्ष जैसे इच्छा पूरी करने वाले गज, जो शब्दों से परे तुरीय अवस्था के सच्चे ज्ञान का चमत्कार बनकर स्थित हैं,

9. முப்பழ நுகரும் மூஷிக வாகன இப்பொழு தென்னை ஆட்கொள வேண்டித்

   Muppazha nugarum mooshiga vaagana, ippozhudhu ennai aatkola vendith

   rider of the mouse, who relishes the three fruits: wishing to make me your own right now,

   हे मूषक पर सवार, तीनों फलों का स्वाद लेने वाले — अभी इसी पल मुझे अपनाने की इच्छा से,

10. தாயா யெனக்குத் தானெழுந் தருளி மாயாப் பிறவி மயக்கம் அறுத்துத்

    Thaayaai enakkuth thaanezhundharuli, maayaap piravi mayakkam aruththuth

    you came of your own accord like a mother to me, cut away the confusion of endless births,

    तुम खुद माँ की तरह मेरे पास आए, अंतहीन जन्मों का भ्रम काट दिया,

11. திருந்திய முதலைந் தெழுத்தும் தெளிவாய்ப் பொருந்தவே வந்தென் உளந்தனில் புகுந்து

    Thirundhiya mudhal aindhezhuththum thelivaaip, porundhave vandhen ulandhanil pugundhu

    and entered my heart to settle there, making the pure, primal five syllables shine clear,

    और मेरे मन में आकर बस गए, पवित्र आदि पंचाक्षर को स्पष्ट करते हुए,

12. குருவடி வாகிக் குவலயந் தன்னில் திருவடி வைத்துத் திறமிது பொருளென

    Guruvadivaagik kuvalayandhannil, thiruvadi vaiththu thiramidhu porulena

    you took the form of a guru, set your holy feet on this earth, and showed me: this is the way, this is the truth.

    तुमने गुरु का रूप लिया, इस धरती पर अपने पावन चरण रखे, और दिखाया: यही मार्ग है, यही सत्य है।

13. வாடா வகைதான் மகிழ்ந்தெனக் கருளிக் கோடா யுதத்தால் கொடுவினை களைந்தே

    Vaadaa vagaithaan magizhndhenakkaruli, kodaayudhaththaal koduvinai kalaindhe

    You gladly blessed me so I would never wither, and with your tusk as a weapon you cleared away my cruel karma;

    तुमने खुशी से ऐसी कृपा की कि मैं कभी न मुरझाऊँ, और अपने दाँत रूपी अस्त्र से मेरे कठोर कर्म मिटा दिए;

14. உவட்டா உபதேசம் புகட்டியென் செவியில் தெவிட்டாத ஞானத் தெளிவையும் காட்டி

    Uvattaa upadhesam pugattiyen seviyil, thevittaadha gnaanath thelivaiyum kaatti

    you poured into my ear a teaching that never palls, and showed me the clarity of a wisdom one never tires of;

    तुमने मेरे कान में ऐसा उपदेश डाला जो कभी फीका नहीं पड़ता, और ऐसे ज्ञान की स्पष्टता दिखाई जिससे मन कभी नहीं भरता;

15. ஐம்புலன் தன்னை அடக்கும் உபாயம் இன்புறு கருணையின் இனிதெனக் கருளிக்

    Aimpulan thannai adakkum upaayam, inburu karunaiyin inidhenakkarulik

    in your sweet, joyful compassion you taught me how to master the five senses;

    अपनी मधुर, आनंद भरी करुणा से तुमने मुझे पाँचों इंद्रियों को वश में करने का उपाय सिखाया;

16. கருவிக ளொடுங்கும் கருத்தினை யறிவித்து இருவினை தன்னை அறுத்திருள் கடிந்து

    Karuvigal odungum karuththinai ariviththu, iruvinai thannai aruththirul kadindhu

    you made known to me the state where the faculties fall still, cut away both good and bad karma, and drove out the darkness;

    तुमने वह अवस्था बताई जहाँ सारी इंद्रियाँ शांत हो जाती हैं, अच्छे-बुरे दोनों कर्म काटे और अंधकार भगाया;

17. தலமொரு நான்கும் தந்தெனக் கருளி மலமொரு மூன்றின் மயக்கம் அறுத்தே

    Thalamoru naangum thandhenakkaruli, malamoru moondrin mayakkam aruththe

    you granted me the four stages of nearness to God, and cut away the delusion of the three impurities;

    तुमने मुझे ईश्वर के निकट पहुँचने की चारों अवस्थाएँ दीं, और तीनों मलों का भ्रम काट दिया;

18. ஒன்பது வாயில் ஒருமந் திரத்தால் ஐம்புலக் கதவை அடைப்பதும் காட்டி

    Onbadhu vaayil oru mandhiraththaal, aimpulak kadhavai adaippadhum kaatti

    you showed me how, with a single mantra, to shut the doors of the five senses in this body of nine gates;

    तुमने दिखाया कि नौ द्वारों वाले इस शरीर में एक मंत्र से पाँचों इंद्रियों के दरवाज़े कैसे बंद किए जाते हैं;

19. ஆறா தாரத்து அங்குச நிலையும் பேறா நிறுத்திப் பேச்சுரை யறுத்தே

    Aaraadhaaraththu angusa nilaiyum, peraa niruththip pechchurai aruththe

    you fixed in me, as a lasting gain, firm control over the six chakras, and put an end to idle talk;

    तुमने छहों चक्रों पर अंकुश जैसा नियंत्रण मुझमें स्थायी रूप से जमा दिया, और व्यर्थ बातों को खत्म कर दिया;

20. இடைபிங் கலையின் எழுத்தறி வித்துக் கடையிற் சுழுமுனைக் கபாலமும் காட்டி

    Idai pingalaiyin ezhuththariviththuk, kadaiyil suzhumunaik kabaalamum kaatti

    you taught me the letters of the ida and pingala channels, and at the end showed me the sushumna reaching the crown of the head;

    तुमने इड़ा और पिंगला नाड़ियों के अक्षर सिखाए, और अंत में सिर के शिखर तक पहुँचती सुषुम्ना दिखाई;

21. மூன்றுமண் டலத்தின் முட்டிய தூணின் நான்றெழு பாம்பின் நாவில் உணர்த்திக்

    Moondru mandalaththin muttiya thoonin, naandrezhu paambin naavil unarththik

    you made me aware of the serpent power that rises up the pillar running through the three regions of the body;

    तुमने मुझे उस सर्प-शक्ति का अनुभव कराया जो शरीर के तीन मंडलों से होकर जाते स्तंभ में ऊपर उठती है;

22. குண்டலி யதனிற் கூடிய அசபை விண்டெழு மந்திரம் வெளிப்பட உரைத்து

    Kundaliyadhanir koodiya asabai, vindezhu mandhiram velippada uraiththu

    you spoke plainly of the silent mantra joined with the kundalini, which rises and breaks forth;

    तुमने कुंडलिनी से जुड़े उस मौन मंत्र (अजपा) को स्पष्ट बताया जो उठकर प्रकट होता है;

23. மூலா தாரத்தின் மூண்டெழு கனலைக் காலால் எழுப்பும் கருத்தறி வித்தே

    Moolaadhaaraththin moondezhu kanalaik, kaalaal ezhuppum karuththariviththe

    you taught me how to rouse with the breath the fire that blazes up from the base chakra;

    तुमने सिखाया कि मूलाधार से भड़कने वाली अग्नि को प्राण-वायु से कैसे जगाया जाए;

24. அமுத நிலையும் ஆதித்தன் இயக்கமும் குமுத சகாயன் குணத்தையும் கூறி

    Amudha nilaiyum aadhiththan iyakkamum, kumudha sagaayan gunaththaiyum koori

    you told me of the state of nectar, the movement of the sun, and the nature of the moon, friend of the night lily;

    तुमने अमृत की अवस्था, सूर्य की गति, और कुमुद के मित्र चंद्रमा का स्वभाव बताया;

25. இடைச்சக் கரத்தின் ஈரெட்டு நிலையும் உடல்சக் கரத்தின் உறுப்பையும் காட்டிச்

    Idaich chakkaraththin eerettu nilaiyum, udal chakkaraththin uruppaiyum kaattich

    you showed me the sixteen states of the central chakra and the parts of the body’s wheels of energy;

    तुमने बीच वाले चक्र की सोलह अवस्थाएँ और शरीर के चक्रों के अंग दिखाए;

26. சண்முக தூலமும் சதுர்முக சூக்கமும் எண் முகமாக இனிதெனக் கருளிப்

    Shanmuga thoolamum chathurmuga sookkamum, en mugamaaga inidhenakkarulip

    you sweetly revealed to me the gross and subtle forms of the inner being, in all their aspects;

    तुमने प्यार से मुझे भीतरी अस्तित्व के स्थूल और सूक्ष्म रूप उनके सभी पहलुओं के साथ दिखाए;

27. புரியட்ட காயம் புலப்பட எனக்குத் தெரியெட்டு நிலையும் தெரிசனப் படுத்திக்

    Puriyatta kaayam pulappada enakkuth, theriyettu nilaiyum therisanap paduththik

    you made the subtle body of eight elements clear to me and let me see its eight states;

    तुमने आठ तत्वों वाले सूक्ष्म शरीर को मेरे लिए स्पष्ट किया और उसकी आठों अवस्थाओं के दर्शन कराए;

28. கருத்தினில் கபால வாயில் காட்டி இருத்தி முத்தி யினிதெனக் கருளி

    Karuththinil kabaala vaayil kaatti, iruththi muththi inidhenakkaruli

    you showed me, within my mind, the gateway at the crown of the head, set me firmly there and sweetly granted me liberation;

    तुमने मेरे मन के भीतर सिर के शिखर का द्वार दिखाया, मुझे वहाँ स्थिर किया और प्यार से मुक्ति दी;

29. என்னை யறிவித்து எனக்கருள் செய்து முன்னை வினையின் முதலைக் களைந்து

    Ennai ariviththu enakkarul seidhu, munnai vinaiyin mudhalaik kalaindhu

    you made me know myself, blessed me, and pulled out the root of my past karma;

    तुमने मुझे स्वयं को जानना सिखाया, मुझ पर कृपा की, और पुराने कर्मों की जड़ उखाड़ दी;

30. வாக்கும் மனமும் இல்லா மனோலயம் தேக்கியே யென்றன் சிந்தை தெளிவித்து

    Vaakkum manamum illaa manolayam, thekkiye endran sindhai theliviththu

    you filled me with the stillness where neither speech nor mind remain, and made my thinking clear;

    तुमने मुझे उस शांति से भर दिया जहाँ न वाणी रहती है न मन, और मेरे विचार निर्मल कर दिए;

31. இருள்வெளி யிரண்டுக்கு ஒன்றிடம் என்ன அருள்தரும் ஆனந்தத்து அழுத்தியென் செவியில்

    Irulveli irandukku ondridam enna, arul tharum aanandhaththu azhuththi en seviyil

    you immersed me in the grace-giving bliss that is the one place beyond both darkness and light, and into my ear

    तुमने मुझे कृपा देने वाले उस आनंद में डुबो दिया जो अंधकार और प्रकाश दोनों से परे एक ही स्थान है, और मेरे कान में

32. எல்லை யில்லா ஆனந் தம்அளித்து அல்லல் களைந்தே அருள்வழி காட்டிச்

    Ellai illaa aanandham aliththu, allal kalaindhe arulvazhi kaattich

    you gave me boundless bliss, cleared away my suffering, and showed me the path of grace;

    असीम आनंद दिया, मेरा दुख मिटाया, और कृपा का मार्ग दिखाया;

33. சத்தத்தின் உள்ளே சதாசிவம் காட்டிச் சித்தத்தின் உள்ளே சிவலிங்கம் காட்டி

    Saththaththin ulle Sadhaasivam kaattich, siththaththin ulle Sivalingam kaatti

    you showed me Sadashiva within sound, and the Shiva lingam within my own mind;

    तुमने ध्वनि के भीतर सदाशिव दिखाए, और मेरे अपने मन के भीतर शिवलिंग दिखाया;

34. அணுவிற்கு அணுவாய் அப்பாலுக்கு அப்பாலாய்க் கணுமுற்றி நின்ற கரும்புள்ளே காட்டி

    Anuvirku anuvaai appaalukku appaalaaik, kanumutri nindra karumbulle kaatti

    you showed me the One who is smaller than the atom and beyond the beyond, like the sweetness inside a ripe, jointed sugarcane;

    तुमने उस परमेश्वर को दिखाया जो अणु से भी छोटा और परे से भी परे है, जैसे पकी गाँठदार ईख के भीतर की मिठास;

35. வேடமும் நீறும் விளங்க நிறுத்திக் கூடுமெய்த் தொண்டர் குழாத்துடன் கூட்டி

    Vedamum neerum vilanga niruththik, koodumeith thondar kuzhaaththudan kootti

    you made the holy garb and sacred ash shine on me, and brought me into the company of true devotees;

    तुमने पवित्र वेश और भस्म को मुझ पर शोभित किया, और मुझे सच्चे भक्तों की संगति में मिला दिया;

36. அஞ்சக் கரத்தின் அரும்பொருள் தன்னை நெஞ்சக் கருத்தின் நிலையறி வித்துத்

    Anjak karaththin arumporul thannai, nenjak karuththin nilaiariviththuth

    you made me know, deep in my heart, the precious meaning of the five sacred syllables;

    तुमने मेरे हृदय की गहराई में पंचाक्षर मंत्र का अनमोल अर्थ समझाया;

37. தத்துவ நிலையைத் தந்தெனை யாண்ட வித்தக விநாயக விரைகழல் சரணே

    Thaththuva nilaiyaith thandhenai aanda, viththaga Vinaayaga viraikazhal sarane

    you granted me the state of truth and made me yours: wise Vinayaka, I take refuge at your fragrant feet.

    तुमने मुझे सत्य की अवस्था दी और अपना बना लिया — हे ज्ञानी विनायक, मैं तुम्हारे सुगंधित चरणों की शरण लेता हूँ।
