बगलामुखी चालीसा
नमो महाविद्या वरदा, बगलामुखी दयाल।
स्तम्भन क्षण में करे, सुमिरत अरिकुल काल॥Namo Mahavidya varada, Bagalamukhi dayal. Stambhan kshan mein kare, sumirat arikul kaal.
Salutations to the boon-giving Mahavidya, kind Bagalamukhi. When remembered, she freezes enemies in an instant and is death to their whole clan.
नमो नमो पीताम्बरा भवानी।
बगलामुखी नमो कल्याणी॥Namo namo Pitambara Bhavani. Bagalamukhi namo Kalyani.
Salutations again and again to Bhavani, dressed in yellow. Salutations to Bagalamukhi, the bringer of good.
भक्तवत्सला शत्रु नशानी।
नमो महाविद्या वरदानी॥Bhaktavatsala shatru nashani. Namo Mahavidya vardani.
Loving to your devotees, destroyer of enemies, boon-giving Mahavidya: salutations to you.
अमृत सागर बीच तुम्हारा।
रत्न जड़ित मणि मंडित प्यारा॥Amrit sagar beech tumhara. Ratna jadit mani mandit pyara.
Your lovely home, set with jewels and adorned with gems, stands in the middle of an ocean of nectar.
स्वर्ण सिंहासन पर आसीना।
पीताम्बर अति दिव्य नवीना॥Swarn sinhasan par aasina. Pitambar ati divya navina.
You sit on a golden throne, wearing fresh, divine yellow robes.
स्वर्णाभूषण सुन्दर धारे।
सिर पर चन्द्र मुकुट श्रृंगारे॥Swarnabhooshan sundar dhare. Sir par chandra mukut shringare.
You wear beautiful gold ornaments, and a crown with the moon adorns your head.
तीन नेत्र दो भुजा मृणाला।
धारे मुद्गर पाश कराला॥Teen netra do bhuja mrinala. Dhare mudgar pash karala.
You have three eyes and two arms as slender as lotus stems, holding a fearsome club and noose.
भैरव करें सदा सेवकाई।
सिद्ध काम सब विघ्न नसाई॥Bhairav karen sada sevkai. Siddh kaam sab vighna nasai.
Bhairava always serves you. You fulfil every task and destroy every obstacle.
तुम हताश का निपट सहारा।
करें अकिंचन अरिकुल धारा॥Tum hatash ka nipat sahara. Karen akinchan arikul dhara.
You are the only support of the hopeless, and you leave the hosts of enemies powerless.
तुम काली तारा भुवनेशी।
त्रिपुर सुन्दरी भैरवी वेशी॥Tum Kali Tara Bhuvaneshi. Tripur Sundari Bhairavi veshi.
You are Kali, Tara and Bhuvaneshvari; you take the forms of Tripura Sundari and Bhairavi.
छिन्नभाल धूमा मातंगी।
गायत्री तुम बगला रंगी॥Chhinnabhal Dhooma Matangi. Gayatri tum Bagala rangi.
You are Chhinnamasta, Dhumavati and Matangi; you are Gayatri, and you are Bagala too.
सकल शक्तियाँ तुम में साजें।
ह्रीं बीज के बीज बिराजें॥Sakal shaktiyan tum mein sajen. Hreem beej ke beej birajen.
All powers are gathered in you, and you dwell as the very essence of the seed syllable hreem.
दुष्ट स्तम्भन अरिकुल कीलन।
मारण वशीकरण सम्मोहन॥Dusht stambhan arikul keelan. Maran vashikaran sammohan.
You freeze the wicked, pin down the enemy’s clan, and hold the powers to destroy, subdue and enchant.
दुष्टोच्चाटन कारक माता।
अरि जिह्वा कीलक सघाता॥Dushtochchatan karak mata. Ari jihva keelak saghata.
Mother, you drive away the wicked, and with your blow you pin down the enemy’s tongue.
साधक के विपति की त्राता।
नमो महामाया प्रख्याता॥Sadhak ke vipati ki trata. Namo Mahamaya prakhyata.
You rescue your worshipper from misfortune. Salutations to the renowned Mahamaya.
मुद्गर शिला लिए अति भारी।
प्रेतासन पर किए सवारी॥Mudgar shila liye ati bhari. Pretasan par kiye savari.
Carrying a massive stone club, you ride seated on a corpse.
तीन लोक दस दिशा भवानी।
बिचरहु तुम हित कल्याणी॥Teen lok das disha Bhavani. Bicharahu tum hit Kalyani.
Bhavani, kind one, you roam the three worlds and the ten directions for the good of all.
अरि अरिष्ट सोचे जो जन को।
बुद्धि नाश कर कीलक तन को॥Ari arisht soche jo jan ko. Buddhi nash kar keelak tan ko.
If an enemy plots harm against your devotee, you destroy his wits and pin down his body.
हाथ पाँव बाँधहु तुम ताके।
हनहु जीभ बिच मुद्गर बाके॥Haath paanv bandhahu tum take. Hanahu jeebh bich mudgar bake.
You bind his hands and feet and strike his tongue with your club.
चोरों का जब संकट आवे।
रण में रिपुओं से घिर जावे॥Choron ka jab sankat aave. Ran mein ripuon se ghir jave.
When danger from thieves comes, or someone is surrounded by enemies in battle,
अनल अनिल विप्लव घहरावे।
वाद विवाद न निर्णय पावे॥Anal anil viplav ghaharave. Vaad vivad na nirnay pave.
when fire, storm or upheaval rages, or a dispute finds no resolution,
मूठ आदि अभिचारण संकट।
राजभीति आपत्ति सन्निकट॥Mooth aadi abhicharan sankat. Rajbheeti aapatti sannikat.
when there is danger from black magic and curses, or fear of the ruler, or calamity is near,
ध्यान करत सब कष्ट नसावे।
भूत प्रेत न बाधा आवे॥Dhyan karat sab kasht nasave. Bhoot pret na badha aave.
meditating on you ends all trouble, and no ghost or spirit can cause harm.
सुमिरत राजद्वार बँध जावे।
सभा बीच स्तम्भन छावे॥Sumirat rajdvar bandh jave. Sabha beech stambhan chhave.
Remembering you, even the royal court is held in check, and your stilling power spreads over the assembly.
नाग सर्प बिच्छू आदि भयंकर।
खल विहंग भागहिं सब सत्वर॥Naag sarp bichchhu aadi bhayankar. Khal vihang bhagahin sab satvar.
Fearsome cobras, snakes, scorpions, wicked people and birds of prey all flee at once.
सर्व रोग की नाशनहारी।
अरिकुल मूलोच्चाटन कारी॥Sarv rog ki nashanhari. Arikul moolochchatan kari.
You destroy every illness and uproot the enemy’s clan.
स्त्री पुरुष राज सम्मोहक।
नमो नमो पीताम्बर सोहक॥Stri purush raj sammohak. Namo namo pitambar sohak.
You enchant women, men and kings alike. Salutations again and again to you, radiant in yellow.
तुमको सदा कुबेर मनावे।
श्री समृद्धि सुयश नित गावें॥Tumko sada Kuber manave. Shri samriddhi suyash nit gaven.
Kubera, god of wealth, always seeks your favour, and fortune and prosperity forever sing your glory.
शक्ति शौर्य की तुम्हीं विधाता।
दुःख दारिद्र विनाशक माता॥Shakti shaurya ki tumhin vidhata. Dukh daridra vinashak mata.
You alone grant power and courage, Mother, destroyer of sorrow and poverty.
यश ऐश्वर्य सिद्धि की दाता।
शत्रु नाशिनी विजय प्रदाता॥Yash aishvarya siddhi ki data. Shatru nashini vijay pradata.
You give fame, wealth and success; you destroy enemies and grant victory.
पीताम्बरा नमो कल्याणी।
नमो माता बगला महारानी॥Pitambara namo Kalyani. Namo mata Bagala Maharani.
Salutations to the kind goddess in yellow. Salutations to Mother Bagala, the great queen.
जो तुमको सुमिरै चितलाई।
योग क्षेम से करो सहाई॥Jo tumko sumirai chit lai. Yog kshem se karo sahai.
Whoever remembers you with a focused mind, you help by providing what they need and protecting what they have.
आपत्ति जन की तुरत निवारो।
आधि व्याधि संकट सब टारो॥Aapatti jan ki turat nivaro. Aadhi vyadhi sankat sab taro.
Quickly remove your devotee’s troubles, and ward off all worry, illness and danger.
पूजा विधि नहिं जानत तुम्हरी।
अर्थ न आखर करहुँ निहोरी॥Pooja vidhi nahin janat tumhari. Arth na aakhar karahun nihori.
I don’t know the proper way to worship you, nor the words or their meaning; I can only plead with you.
मैं कुपुत्र अति निवल उपाया।
हाथ जोड़ शरणागत आया॥Main kuputra ati nival upaya. Haath jod sharanagat aaya.
I am an unworthy child with no means of my own; with folded hands I have come to you for refuge.
जग में केवल तुम्हीं सहारा।
सारे संकट करहुँ निवारा॥Jag mein keval tumhin sahara. Sare sankat karahun nivara.
In this world you are my only support; take away all my troubles.
नमो महादेवी हे माता।
पीताम्बरा नमो सुखदाता॥Namo Mahadevi he mata. Pitambara namo sukhdata.
Salutations to you, great Goddess, O Mother. Salutations to the joy-giving goddess in yellow.
सौम्य रूप धर बनती माता।
सुख सम्पत्ति सुयश की दाता॥Saumya roop dhar banti mata. Sukh sampatti suyash ki data.
Taking a gentle form you become a mother, giving happiness, wealth and a good name.
रौद्र रूप धर शत्रु संहारो।
अरि जिह्वा में मुद्गर मारो॥Raudra roop dhar shatru sanharo. Ari jihva mein mudgar maro.
Taking a fierce form, destroy the enemies and strike the enemy’s tongue with your club.
नमो महाविद्या आगारा।
आदि शक्ति सुन्दरी अपारा॥Namo Mahavidya aagara. Aadi shakti sundari apara.
Salutations to you, home of the great wisdom, primal power of boundless beauty.
अरि भंजक विपत्ति की त्राता।
दया करो पीताम्बरी माता॥Ari bhanjak vipatti ki trata. Daya karo Pitambari mata.
Breaker of enemies, rescuer from misfortune, Mother in yellow, have mercy.
रिद्धि सिद्धि दाता तुम्हीं, अरि समूल कुल काल।
मेरी सब बाधा हरो, माँ बगले तत्काल॥Riddhi siddhi data tumhin, ari samool kul kaal. Meri sab badha haro, Maan Bagale tatkal.
You alone give prosperity and success, and you are death to the enemy’s clan, root and all. Mother Bagala, remove all my obstacles at once.
