Udgachchhatastava karadamritam haratsu daityeshu tanasharanananuniya devan, sadyastirodadhitha deva bhavatprabhavadudyatsvayuthyakalaha ditija babhuvuh.

As you rose from the ocean holding the nectar, the demons snatched it from your hand. Consoling the helpless gods, you vanished at once, Lord, and by your power the demons began quarrelling among themselves.

Shyamam ruchapi vayasapi tanum tadanim praptosi tungakuchamandalabhanguram tvam, piyushakumbhakalaham parimuchya sarve trishnakulah pratiyayustvadurojakumbhe.

Then you took on the form of a young woman, dark and radiant, full-bosomed and slender-waisted. Dropping their quarrel over the pot of nectar, all the demons, overcome with desire, turned toward you.

Ka tvam mrigakshi vibhajasva sudhamimamityarudharagavivashanabhiyachatomun, vishvasyate mayi katham kulatasmi daitya ityalapannapi suvishvasitanatanih.

“Who are you, doe-eyed one? Share out this nectar among us,” they begged, helpless with infatuation. “Demons, how can you trust me? I am a woman of loose ways,” you said, and still you made them trust you completely and bow before you.

Modatsudhakalashameshu dadatsu sa tvam dushcheshtitam mama sahadhvamiti bruvana, panktiprabhedaviniveshitadevadaitya lilavilasagatibhih samadah sudham tam.

When they gladly handed you the pot of nectar, you said, “Bear with whatever I do,” seated the gods and demons in separate rows, and with playful, graceful movements served out the nectar.

Asmasviyam pranayinityasureshu teshu josham sthiteshvatha samapya sudham sureshu, tvam bhaktalokavashago nijarupametya svarbhanumardhaparipitasudham vyalavih.

While the demons sat quietly thinking, “She is in love with us,” you finished serving the nectar to the gods. Then, swayed by your devotees, you returned to your own form and cut off the head of Rahu, who had drunk half a sip.

Tvattah sudhaharanayogyaphalam pareshu dattva gate tvayi suraih khalu te vyagrihnan, ghoretha murchhati rane balidaityamayavyamohite suragane tvamihavirasih.

When you had given the gods the fruit fit for those who stole the nectar and left, the demons attacked the gods. When the gods, bewildered by the illusions of the demon Bali, fainted in that terrible battle, you appeared there.

Tvam kalanemimatha malimukhanjaghantha shakro jaghana balijambhavalan sapakan, shushkardradushkaravadhe namuchau cha lune phenena naradagira nyaruno ranam tvam.

You slew Kalanemi, Mali and others; Indra slew Bali, Jambha, Vala and Paka. When Namuchi, who could be killed by nothing dry or wet, was beheaded with foam, you ended the battle at Narada’s word.

Yoshavapurdanujamohanamahitam te shrutva vilokanakutuhalavanmaheshah, bhutaissamam girijaya cha gatah padam te stutvabravidabhimatam tvamatho tirodhah.

Hearing of the woman’s form you had taken to bewitch the demons, Shiva grew curious to see it and came to your abode with Parvati and his attendants. After praising you he told you his wish, and then you vanished.

Aramasimani cha kandukaghatalilalolayamananayanam kamanim manojnam, tvamesha vikshya vigaladvasanam manobhuvegadanangaripuranga samalilinga.

Then, at the edge of a garden, he saw you as a lovely, enchanting woman, her eyes darting as she played with a ball, her garment slipping; and swept away by desire, Shiva, the very enemy of Kama, embraced you.

Bhuyopi vidrutavatimupadhavya devo viryapramokshavikasatparamarthabodhah, tvanmanitastava mahatvamuvacha devyai tattadrishastvamava vataniketanatha.

When you broke free, the god ran after you again, until his passion was spent and his awareness of the supreme truth returned. Honoured by you, he told the Goddess of your greatness. Lord of Guruvayur, you who are such, protect me.
