Muda suraughaistvamudarasammadairudirya damodara ityabhishtutah, mridudarah svairamulukhale lagannadurato dvau kakubhavudaikshathah.

Joyfully hailed by the delighted gods as “Damodara”, the one tied at the waist, you, soft-bellied and bound to the mortar, moving as you pleased, caught sight of two arjuna trees close by.

Kuberasunurnalakubarabhidhah paro manigriva iti pratham gatah, maheshasevadhigatashriyonmadau chiram kila tvadvimukhavakhelatam.

Kubera’s sons, one named Nalakubara and the other known as Manigriva, drunk with the wealth they had won by serving Shiva, had long been revelling, turned away from you.

Surapagayam kila tau madotkatau surapagayadbahuyauvatavritau, vivasasau keliparau sa narado bhavatpadaikapravano niraikshata.

In the heavenly Ganga the two of them, wild with drink, surrounded by many young women singing in their wine, naked and lost in play, were seen by Narada, whose heart was given wholly to your feet.

Bhiya priyalokamupattavasasam puro nirikshyapi madandhachetasau, imau bhavadbhaktyupashantisiddhaye munirjagau shantimrite kutassukham.

Seeing the sage before them, the women hastily covered themselves in fear, but the two, their minds blinded by drink, did not. To bring them to peace through devotion to you, the sage spoke a curse, for without humility how can there be happiness?

Yuvamavaptau kakubhatmatam chiram harim nirikshyatha padam svamapnutam, itiritau tau bhavadikshanaspriham gatau vrajante kakubhau babhuvatuh.

“You two will be trees for a long time; then, after seeing Hari, you will regain your own state.” Told this, they became two arjuna trees at the edge of Vraja, longing to see you.

Atandramindradruyugam tathavidham sameyusha mantharagamina tvaya, tirayitolukhalarodhanirdhutau chiraya jirnau paripatitau taru.

Tirelessly you went toward that pair of trees, toddling slowly; the mortar dragging behind you caught crosswise between them, and with a tug you uprooted and felled the two ancient trees.

Abhaji shakhidvitayam yada tvaya tadaiva tadgarbhatalannireyusha, mahatvisha yakshayugena tatkshanadabhaji govinda bhavanapi stavaih.

The moment you broke the two trees, two radiant Yakshas came out from within them and at once worshipped you with hymns, Govinda.

Ihanyabhaktopi sameshyati kramadbhavantametau khalu rudrasevakau, muniprasadadbhavadanghrimagatau gatau vrinanau khalu bhaktimuttamam.

Here we see that even a devotee of another god comes to you in time: these two were servants of Rudra, yet by the sage’s grace they reached your feet and left asking for the highest devotion.

Tatastaruddaranadarunaravaprakampisampatini gopamandale, vilajjitatvajjananimukhekshina vyamokshi nandena bhavanvimokshadah.

Then, as the cowherds rushed up, shaken by the terrible crash of the falling trees, Nanda, glancing at your mother’s ashamed face, untied you, the giver of liberation.

Mahiruhormadhyagato batarbhako hareh prabhavadaparikshatodhuna, iti bruvanairgamito griham bhavanmarutpuradhishvara pahi mam gadat.

“Ah, the little one was right between the trees, and by Hari’s power he is unhurt!” Saying this, they carried you home. Lord of Guruvayur, protect me from illness.
