Bhavatprabhavavidura hi gopastaruprapatadikamatra goshthe, ahetumutpataganam vishankya prayatumanyatra mano vitenuh.

Not knowing your power, the cowherds feared that the falling trees and other events in the village were evil omens without cause, and made up their minds to move elsewhere.

Tatropanandabhidhagopavaryo jagau bhavatpreranayaiva nunam, itah pratichyam vipinam manojnam vrindavanam nama virajatiti.

Then Upananda, the eldest of the cowherds, surely prompted by you, said, “To the west of here lies a lovely forest called Vrindavan.”

Brihadvanam tatkhalu nandamukhya vidhaya gaushthinamatha kshanena, tvadanvitatvajjananinivishtagarishthayananugata vicheluh.

So Nanda and the others quickly abandoned Brihadvana, leaving it an empty old cattle-camp, and set out following the heavy cart in which your mother sat with you.

Anomanojnadhvanidhenupalikhurapranadantarato vadhubhih, bhavadvinodalapitaksharani prapiya najnayata margadairghyam.

Amid the pleasant creaking of the carts and the clatter of the cows’ hooves, the women drank in your playful chatter and did not notice how long the road was.

    Nirikshya vrindavanamisha nandatprasunakundapramukhadrumaugham, amodathashshadvalasandralakshmya harinmanikuttimapushtashobham.

O Lord, you rejoiced to see Vrindavan, with its kunda and other trees in joyful bloom, its beauty heightened by thick green grass like a floor of emeralds.

    Navakanirvyudhanivasabhedeshvasheshagopeshu sukhasiteshu, vanashriyam gopakishorapalivimishritah paryagalokathastvam.

When all the cowherds had settled happily in their new homes built of carts, you went about with the cowherd boys, gazing at the beauty of the forest.

    Aralamargagatanirmalapam maralakujakritanarmalapam, nirantarasmerasarojavaktram kalindakanyam samalokayastvam.

You gazed at the Yamuna, daughter of Kalinda, flowing clear along her winding course, sweetly chattering with the calls of swans, her lotus faces ever smiling.

Mayurakekashatalobhaniyam mayukhamalashabalam maninam, virinchalokasprishamuchchashringairgirim cha govardhanamaikshathastvam.

And you saw the mountain Govardhana, delightful with the cries of hundreds of peacocks, many-coloured with the rays of its gems, its high peaks touching Brahma’s world.

Samam tato gopakumarakaistvam samantato yatra vanantamagah, tatastatastam kutilamapashyah kalindajam ragavatimivaikam.

Then, with the cowherd boys, wherever you went to the edge of the forest, there you saw the winding Yamuna, as if she were a woman in love with you alone.

Tathavidhesminvipine pashavye samutsuko vatsaganaprachare, charansaramotha kumarakaistvam samiragehadhipa pahi rogat.

In that forest, so good for cattle, eager to graze the calves, you roamed with Balarama and the boys. Lord of Guruvayur, protect me from illness.
