Kamsotha naradagira vrajavasinam tvamakarnya dirnahridayah sa hi gandineyam, ahuya karmukamakhachchhalato bhavantamanetumenamahinodahinathashayin.

Then Kamsa, hearing from Narada that you were living in Vraja, was shaken to the core. He called Akrura, son of Gandini, and sent him to bring you, on the pretext of a festival of the bow, O Lord who rests on the serpent king.

Akrura esha bhavadanghriparashchiraya tvaddarshanakshamamanah kshitipalabhitya, tasyajnayaiva punarikshitumudyatastvamanandabharamatibhuritaram babhara.

Akrura had long been devoted to your feet, but for fear of the king he could not come to see you. Now, setting out to see you at that same king’s command, he was filled with overwhelming joy.

Soyam rathena sukriti bhavato nivasam gachchhan manorathaganamstvayi dharyamanan, asvadayan muhurapayabhayena daivam samprarthayan pathi na kinchidapi vyajanat.

That blessed man, driving by chariot to your home, savoured again and again all the hopes he held of you; fearing some obstacle, he prayed to fate, and noticed nothing at all along the way.

Drakshyami vedashatagitagatim pumamsam sprakshyami kimsvidapinama parishvajeyam, kim vakshyate sa khalu mam kvanu vikshitah syadittham ninaya sa bhavanmayameva margam.

‘I will see the One whose ways are sung by a hundred Vedas. Will I touch him? Might I even embrace him? What will he say to me? Where will I first catch sight of him?’ Thinking like this, he made the whole journey full of you.

Bhuyah kramadabhivishan bhavadanghriputam vrindavanam haravirinchasurabhivandyam, anandamagna iva lagna iva pramohe kim kim dashantaramavapa na pankajaksha.

Then, slowly entering Vrindavan, made holy by your feet and revered by Shiva, Brahma and the gods, now sunk in bliss, now almost swooning, what states did he not pass through, lotus-eyed Lord!

Pashyannavandata bhavadvihritisthalani pamsushvaveshtata bhavachcharanankiteshu, kim brumahe bahujana hi tadapi jata evam tu bhaktitarala viralah paratman.

Seeing the places where you played, he bowed to them and rolled in the dust marked by your footprints. What can we say? Many people lived then too, but few, Supreme Self, were so melted by devotion.

Sayam sa gopabhavanani bhavachcharitragitamritaprasritakarnarasayanani, pashyan pramodasariteva kilohyamano gachchhan bhavadbhavanasannidhimanvayasit.

In the evening, seeing the cowherds’ homes, where songs of your deeds flowed like nectar to the ears, he went on as if carried by a river of joy, and came near your house.

Tavaddadarsha pashudohavilokalolam bhaktottamagatimiva pratipalayantam, bhuman bhavantamayamagrajavantamantarbrahmanubhutirasasindhumivodvamantam.

Then he saw you, infinite Lord, eager to watch the cows being milked, as if waiting for the arrival of your finest devotee, standing with your elder brother, as if overflowing with an ocean of the bliss of Brahman within.

Sayantanaplavavisheshaviviktagatrau dvau pitanilaruchirambaralobhaniyau, natiprapanchadhritabhushanacharuveshau mandasmitardravadanau sa yuvam dadarsha.

He saw the two of you, fresh from your evening bath, lovely in yellow and blue clothes, charmingly dressed with just a few ornaments, your faces soft with gentle smiles.

Duradrathat samavaruhya namantamenamutthapya bhaktakulamaulimathopaguhan, harshanmitaksharagira kushalanuyogi panim pragrihya sabalotha griham ninetha.

When he got down from his chariot at a distance and bowed, you lifted up that crown of devotees and embraced him; asking after his welfare in a few joyful words, you took his hand and, with Balarama, led him home.

Nandena sakamamitadaramarchayitva tam yadavam taduditam nishamayya vartam, gopeshu bhupatinideshakatham nivedya nanakathabhiriha tena nishamanaishih.

With Nanda you honoured that Yadava with great respect, heard the news he brought, told the cowherds of the king’s command, and spent the night with him in many conversations.

Chandragrihe kimuta chandrabhagagrihe nu radhagrihe nu bhavane kimu maitravinde, dhurto vilambata iti pramadabhiruchchairashankito nishi marutpuranatha payah.

‘Is he at Chandra’s house, or Chandrabhaga’s? At Radha’s, or at Maitravinda’s? The rascal is late!’ So the young women anxiously wondered aloud that night. Lord of Guruvayur, protect me.
