Your gentle sister Subhadra, sought by the Kaurava Duryodhana, was carried off at your word by Arjuna, Indra’s son, disguised as an ascetic. Calming the angry Balarama, you went back with Arjuna to Indraprastha with Satyabhama, to please your dear friend.

Piercing the fish target, seen only in the water, that even Arjuna and others could not hit, you won Lakshmana, the princess of Madra. Thus you had eight wives. Meanwhile you heard from Indra of the misdeeds of Narakasura.

You went to heaven with your beloved to return Aditi’s earrings stolen by Narakasura, and were honoured by Indra and others, though the heavenly women slighted her. You took the wish-granting tree, defeated Indra when he attacked in anger, and came back; this you did only to show what the fault of pride in wealth is like.

Planting the wish-granting tree in Satyabhama’s palace grounds, you accepted the sixteen thousand women, took many forms to delight each in her own home with varied play, and to Narada’s wonder were seen doing different things in house after house, fathering ten sons with each. O Lord of Guruvayur, protect me.
