I joyfully bow to Yamuna, source of every spiritual attainment, rich with the bright dust of Murari’s lotus feet. With water scented by the flowers of the fresh groves on her banks, she carries the splendour of Krishna, father of Kama, worshipped by gods and demons alike.

Victory to Yamuna, daughter of the Sun, shining with her rushing flood that falls from the peak of Mount Kalinda, rising high over the boulders as she flows playfully, her course rippling with sound, as if riding the finest swing, deepening love for Mukunda.

Bow to Yamuna, dear to Krishna as his fourth beloved, who has come to earth to purify the worlds, attended with many voices by parrots, peacocks and swans as if by her companions, lovely with banks of pearl-like sand and waves like arms with bracelets.

You who are adorned with endless virtues, praised by Shiva, Brahma and the gods, dark as rain clouds, who always grant the wishes of Dhruva and Parashara, with holy Mathura on your bank, surrounded by all the cowherds and gopis, resting in Krishna, the ocean of mercy: fill my mind with joy.

It was by joining you that the Ganga, born from Krishna’s lotus feet, became dear to him and able to grant every attainment to those who serve her. Only Lakshmi, as a co-wife, can match you. May you, Yamuna, beloved of Hari, always dwell in my mind.

Salutations to you always, Yamuna; your story is truly wondrous. Whoever drinks your water never suffers Yama’s torments; how could Yama harm his sister’s children, even the wicked? By serving you, one becomes dear to Hari, just as the gopis were.

Beloved of Mukunda, may I gain a renewed body in your presence; with that alone, love for Murari is no longer so hard to find. So may you be cherished. The heavenly Ganga is praised on earth only for her union with you, and those on the path of grace never praise her apart from you.

O daughter of the Sun, whoever joyfully recites this hymn of eight verses always has every sin destroyed and gains love for Mukunda; through that love come all attainments, Murari is pleased, and one masters one’s own nature. So says Vallabha, beloved of Shri Hari.
