Narayaneeyam: Dashakam 11
Kramena sarge parivardhamane kadapi divyah sanakadayaste, bhavadvilokaya vikunthalokam prapedire marutamandiresha.
As creation gradually grew, the divine sages Sanaka and his brothers once went to Vaikuntha to see you, O Lord of Guruvayur.
Manojnanaishreyasakananadyairanekavapimanimandiraishcha, anopamam tam bhavato niketam munishvarah prapuratitakakshyah.
Passing through its gates, those great sages reached your matchless abode, with its lovely gardens of bliss, many ponds and jewelled mansions.
Bhavaddidrikshunbhavanam vivikshundvahsthau jayastan vijayopyarundham, tesham cha chitte padamapa kopah sarvam bhavatpreranayaiva bhuman.
As they sought to see you and enter, the doorkeepers Jaya and Vijaya stopped them, and anger arose in the sages’ minds. All this happened by your will, O infinite Lord.
Vaikunthalokanuchitapracheshtau kashtau yuvam daityagatim bhajetam, iti prashaptau bhavadashrayau tau harismritirnostviti nematustan.
‘Your conduct is unfit for Vaikuntha; wicked ones, be born as demons,’ they cursed. The two, devoted to you, bowed and prayed, ‘May we never forget Hari.’
Tadetadajnaya bhavanavaptah sahaiva lakshmya bahirambujaksha, khageshvaramsarpitacharubahuranandayamstanabhiramamurtya.
Knowing this, lotus-eyed Lord, you came out with Lakshmi, your lovely arm resting on Garuda’s shoulder, delighting them with your charming form.
Prasadya girbhih stuvato munindranananyanathavatha parshadau tau, samrambhayogena bhavaistribhirmamupetamityattakripam nyagadih.
You calmed the great sages, who praised you with hymns, and then told your two attendants, who had no other master, with compassion: ‘Through three births of enmity you will return to me.’
Tvadiyabhrityavatha kashyapattau surariviravuditau ditau dvau, sandhyasamutpadanakashtacheshtau yamau cha lokasya yamavivanyau.
Then your two servants were born to Diti from Kashyapa as mighty enemies of the gods; twins conceived at the troubled hour of twilight, like two more Yamas for the world.
Hiranyapurvah kashipuh kilaikah paro hiranyaksha iti pratitah, ubhau bhavannathamasheshalokam rusha nyarundham nijavasanandhau.
One was Hiranyakashipu, the other Hiranyaksha. Blinded by their own nature, both in rage oppressed the whole world, of which you are lord.
Tayorhiranyakshamahasurendro ranaya dhavannanavaptavairi, bhavatpriyam kshmam salile nimajya chachara garvadvinadan gadavan.
Hiranyaksha, the great demon king, ran about seeking battle but found no equal; he sank the earth, dear to you, in the waters, and roamed proudly, roaring, mace in hand.
Then, hearing from Varuna, lord of the waters, that only you were his match, he wandered searching for you. O ocean of compassion, seen only by devotees, Lord of Guruvayur, end my illnesses.
