Balasametabalanugato bhavan puramagahata bhishmakamanitah, dvijasutam tvadupagamavadinam dhritarasa tarasa prananama sa.

Followed by Balarama and an army, you entered the city, honoured by King Bhishmaka. Rukmini, full of joy, quickly bowed to the brahmin who brought her news of your coming.

Bhuvanakantamavekshya bhavadvapurnripasutasya nishamya cha cheshtitam, vipulakhedajusham puravasinam saruditairuditairagamannisha.

Seeing your form, the delight of the world, and hearing what the prince Rukmi had planned, the townspeople were deeply grieved, and the night passed amid their tearful talk.

Tadanu vanditumindumukhi shivam vihitamangalabhushanabhasura, niragamadbhavadarpitajivita svapuratah puratah subhatavrita.

Then the moon-faced princess, shining in auspicious ornaments, whose life was already given to you, left her palace to worship the goddess Parvati, guarded in front by fine warriors.

Kulavadhubhirupetya kumarika girisutam paripujya cha sadaram, muhurayachata tatpadapankaje nipatita patitam tava kevalam.

Coming with the noble ladies, the maiden worshipped Parvati, the mountain’s daughter, with reverence, and falling at her lotus feet, prayed again and again for you alone as her husband.

Samavalokakutuhalasankule nripakule nibhritam tvayi cha sthite, nripasuta niragadgirijalayatsuruchiram ruchiranjitadinmukha.

As the kings crowded around eager to see her, and you waited quietly, the princess came out of Parvati’s temple, lovely beyond words, her radiance colouring the directions.

Bhuvanamohanaruparucha tada vivashitakhilarajakadambaya, tvamapi deva katakshavimokshanaih pramadaya madayanchakrishe manak.

With the glow of her world-enchanting beauty she overwhelmed all the kings, and you too, O Lord, were a little intoxicated by the glances of that lovely maiden.

Kva nu gamishyasi chandramukhiti tam sarasametya karena haran kshanat, samadhiropya ratham tvamapahritha bhuvi tato vitato ninado dvisham.

“Moon-faced one, where are you going?” you said, and coming to her lovingly, took her hand in an instant, lifted her into your chariot and carried her off. Then a great uproar rose among your enemies.

Kva nu gatah pashupala iti krudha kritarana yadubhishcha jita nripah, na tu bhavanudachalyata tairaho pishunakaih shunakairiva kesari.

“Where has that cowherd gone?” the kings cried in anger and gave battle, but were defeated by the Yadavas. Those wretches could not move you, any more than dogs can move a lion.

Tadanu rukminamagatamahave vadhamupekshya nibadhya virupayan, hritamadam parimuchya baloktibhih puramaya ramaya saha kantaya.

Then Rukmi came to fight. You spared his life but bound him and disfigured him, and at Balarama’s word let him go, his pride broken. Then you went home to your city with your beloved, who is Lakshmi herself.

Navasamagamalajjitamanasam pranayakautukajrimbhitamanmatham, aramayah khalu natha yathasukham rahasi tam hasitamshulasanmukhim.

In private, O Lord, you delighted her as you pleased, her heart shy at the new union, love awakening in her, her face shining with smiles.

Vividhanarmabhirevamaharnisham pramadamakalayanpunarekada, rijumateh kila vakragira bhavan varatanoratanodatilolatam.

So, delighting her day and night with many playful jests, once with teasing words you made that simple-hearted, lovely lady very anxious.

Tadadhikairatha lalanakaushalaih pranayinimadhikam ramayannimam, ayi mukunda bhavachcharitani nah pragadatam gadatantimapakuru.

Then you delighted your beloved even more with greater tenderness. O Mukunda, take away the ailments of us who tell your stories.
