Evam tavatprakritaprakshayante brahme kalpe hyadime labdhajanma, brahma bhuyastvatta evapya vedan srishtim chakre purvakalpopamanam.

So, after the great dissolution of nature, Brahma was born in the first age, the Brahma kalpa. Receiving the Vedas once more from you, he created a world just like those of earlier ages.

Soyam chaturyugasahasramitanyahani tavanmitashcha rajanirbahusho ninaya, nidratyasau tvayi niliya samam svasrishtairnaimittikapralayamahuratosya ratrim.

Brahma has passed many days, each as long as a thousand cycles of the four yugas, and as many nights. At night he sleeps, merged in you along with his creation; so his night is called the periodic dissolution.

Asmadrisham punaraharmukhakrityatulyam srishtim karotyanudinam sa bhavatprasadat, pragbrahmakalpajanusham cha parayusham tu suptaprabodhanasamasti tadapi srishtih.

By your grace he creates beings like us every day, as easily as his morning duties. For the long-lived beings born in the earlier Brahma kalpa, that creation is like waking from sleep.

Panchashadabdamadhuna svavayordharupamekam parardhamativritya hi vartatesau, tatrantyaratrijanitankathayami bhuman pashchaddinavatarane cha bhavadvilasan.

He has now passed fifty of his years, half his life, the first parardha, and lives on into the second. O infinite one, I will tell of your plays in the last night of that first half, and at the dawn of the day that followed.

Dinavasanetha sarojayonih sushuptikamastvayi sannililye, jaganti cha tvajjatharam samiyustadedamekarnavamasa vishvam.

At the end of his day, lotus-born Brahma, wishing to sleep, merged into you. The worlds entered your belly, and the whole universe became a single ocean.

Tavaiva veshe phaniraji sheshe jalaikasheshe bhuvane sma sheshe, anandasandranubhavasvarupah svayoganidraparimudritatma.

When nothing was left of the world but water, you lay on Shesha, king of serpents, himself a form of yours; your nature dense bliss, your self sealed in your own yogic sleep.

Kalakhyashaktim pralayavasane prabodhayetyadishata kiladau, tvaya prasuptam parisuptashaktivrajena tatrakhilajivadhamna.

At the start, it is said, you told the power called Time, “Wake me at the end of the dissolution.” Then you slept there, all your powers at rest, the dwelling of every soul.

Chaturyuganam cha sahasramevam tvayi prasupte punaradvitiye, kalakhyashaktih prathamaprabuddha prabodhayattvam kila vishvanatha.

When you, the one without a second, had slept through a thousand cycles of the four yugas, the power called Time woke first and roused you, Lord of the universe.

Vibudhya cha tvam jalagarbhashayin vilokya lokanakhilanpralinan, teshveva sukshmatmataya nijantahsthiteshu vishveshu dadatha drishtim.

Waking, you who lie within the waters saw all the worlds dissolved, and you turned your gaze upon those same worlds lying within you in subtle form.

Tatastvadiyadayi nabhirandhradudanchitam kinchana divyapadmam, nilinanishsheshapadarthamalasanksheparupam mukulayamanam.

Then from your navel rose a divine lotus bud, holding in compact form the whole array of things that had merged into you.

Tadetadambhoruhakudmalam te kalevarattoyapathe prarudham, bahirniritam paritah sphuradbhih svadhamabhirdhvantamalam nyakrintat.

That lotus bud grew from your body through the waters, rose above them, and with its own light shining all around, cut the darkness away completely.

Samphullapatre nitaram vichitre tasminbhavadviryadhrite saroje, sa padmajanma vidhiravirasit svayamprabuddhakhilavedarashih.

In that wondrous, full-blown lotus upheld by your power, lotus-born Brahma appeared, with all the Vedas awakening in him by themselves.

Asminparatman nanu padmakalpe tvamitthamutthapitapadmayonih, anantabhuma mama rogarashim nirundhi vatalayavasa vishno.

Supreme Self, in this Padma kalpa you raised up lotus-born Brahma in this way. Infinite, mighty Vishnu, who dwell in Guruvayur, put an end to my many ailments.
