Gopijanaya kathitam niyamavasane marotsavam tvamatha sadhayitum pravrittah, sandrena chandramahasa shishirikritashe prapurayo muralikam yamunavanante.

Then, to fulfil the festival of love you had promised the gopis at the end of their vow, you began to play your flute at the edge of the Yamuna forest, every direction cooled by the moon’s rich light.

Sammurchhanabhiruditasvaramandalabhih sammurchhayantamakhilam bhuvanantaralam, tvadvenunadamupakarnya vibho tarunyastattadrisham kamapi chittavimohamapuh.

Hearing your flute, its swelling melodies and notes enchanting the whole universe, Lord, the young women fell into an indescribable rapture of the heart.

Ta gehakrityaniratastanayaprasaktah kantopasevanaparashcha saroruhakshyah, sarvam visrijya muraliravamohitaste kantaradeshamayi kantatano sametah.

Those lotus-eyed women, busy with housework, caring for children or serving their husbands, dropped everything, entranced by the flute, and gathered in the forest, O lovely one.

Kashchinnijangaparibhushanamadadhana venupranadamupakarnya kritardhabhushah, tvamagata nanu tathaiva vibhushitabhyasta eva samruruchire tava lochanaya.

Some, in the middle of putting on their ornaments, heard the flute and came to you half-adorned; and to your eyes they looked lovelier than those fully adorned.

Haram nitambabhuvi kachana dharayanti kanchim cha kanthabhuvi deva samagata tvam, haritvamatmajaghanasya mukunda tubhyam vyaktam babhasha iva mugdhamukhi visheshat.

One came to you, Lord, wearing her necklace on her hips and her girdle at her throat; with her innocent face, Mukunda, she seemed to be telling you plainly how captivating her hips were.

Kachit kuche punarasajjitakanchulika vyamohatah paravadhubhiralakshyamana, tvamayayau nirupamapranayatibhararajyabhishekavidhaye kalashidhareva.

Another, in her daze, came to you without her bodice, unnoticed by the other women, as though carrying ceremonial pitchers for the coronation of her boundless love.

Kashchidgrihat kila niretumaparayantyastvameva deva hridaye sudridham vibhavya, deham vidhuya parachitsukharupamekam tvamavishan paramima nanu dhanyadhanyah.

Some who could not get out of their homes held you firmly in their hearts, Lord, cast off the body and entered you, the one supreme consciousness and bliss. Blessed, truly blessed were they.

Jaratmana na paramatmataya smarantyo naryo gatah paramahamsagatim kshanena, tam tvam prakashaparamatmatanum kathanchichchitte vahannamritamashramamashnuviya.

Those women, remembering you as a lover and not as the Supreme Self, reached in a moment the goal of the highest ascetics. May I, somehow holding you in my mind as the radiant Supreme Self, taste immortality without effort.

Abhyagatabhirabhito vrajasundaribhirmugdhasmitardravadanah karunavaloki, nissimakantijaladhistvamavekshyamano vishvaikahridya hara me pavanesha rogan.

Gazed on by the beauties of Vraja gathered all around, your face soft with an innocent smile and your glance full of compassion, boundless ocean of beauty, sole delight of the universe, Lord of Guruvayur, take away my illnesses.
