Though you meant to grant the wishes of the lovely-eyed women who had come, overcome by love, you spoke to them as if to turn them away.

Hearing your discouraging words, the doe-eyed women, utterly forlorn, wept for a long time: “No, no, ocean of compassion, do not abandon us!”

Lord, the promise you had made on the day you took their clothes, you now kept for those lovely-browed women, lost in love.

Embracing you, Nanda’s son, most beautiful in all three worlds, beads of sweat on your brow and your lotus face smiling softly like jasmine, the young women were filled with joy.

In separation you burn like hot coals; in union you are love itself; and yet even in union you burn all the more. How wondrous!
