Tadanu nandamamandashubhaspadam nripapurim karadanakrite gatam, samavalokya jagada bhavatpita viditakamsasahayajanodyamah.

Then your father Vasudeva, aware of what Kamsa’s allies were plotting, saw Nanda, rich in good fortune, who had come to the king’s city to pay tribute, and said to him:

Ayi sakhe tava balakajanma mam sukhayatedya nijatmajajanmavat, iti bhavatpitritam vrajanayake samadhiropya shashamsa tamadarat.

“Friend, the birth of your son gladdens me today as if he were my own.” So, giving the chief of Vraja the role of your father, he spoke to him warmly.

Iha cha santyanimittashatani te katakasimni tato laghu gamyatam, iti cha tadvachasa vrajanayako bhavadapayabhiya drutamayayau.

“There are hundreds of bad omens here and around your camp, so go back quickly.” At these words the chief of Vraja hurried home, fearing harm to you.

Avasare khalu tatra cha kachana vrajapade madhurakritirangana, taralashatpadalalitakuntala kapatapotaka te nikatam gata.

Just then a sweet-looking woman, her hair hovered over by restless bees, came near you in Vraja, O you who only seemed a child.

Sapadi sa hritabalakachetana nishicharanvayaja kila putana, vrajavadhushviha keyamiti kshanam vimrishatishu bhavantamupadade.

At once she, Putana, born of the night-roaming demons, who took the lives of children, picked you up while the women of Vraja were still wondering who she was.

Lalitabhavavilasahritatmabhiryuvatibhih pratiroddhumaparita, stanamasau bhavanantanishedushi pradadushi bhavate kapatatmane.

The young women, charmed by her graceful ways, could not stop her. Sitting inside the house, she offered her breast to you, the divine pretender.

Samadhiruhya tadankamashankitastvamatha balakalopanaroshitah, mahadivamraphalam kuchamandalam pratichuchushitha durvishadushitam.

Climbing into her lap without fear, angry at her killing of children, you sucked her poisoned breast as if it were a big mango.

Bhayadaghoshanabhishanavigrahashravanadarshanamohitavallave, vrajapade tadurahsthalakhelanam nanu bhavantamagrihnata gopikah.

While the cowherds of Vraja stood stunned by her dreadful cry and terrible body, the gopis lifted you up as you played on her chest.

Bhuvanamangalanamabhireva te yuvatibhirbahudha kritarakshanah, tvamayi vataniketananatha mamagadayan kuru tavakasevakam.

The young women protected you in many ways by chanting your own names, which bless the world. Lord of Guruvayur, free me from illness and make me your servant.
