Kvachidatha tapanoparagakale puri nidadhatkritavarmakamasunu, yadukulamahilavritah sutirtham samupagatosi samantapanchakakhyam.

Then once, at the time of a solar eclipse, leaving Kritavarma and Aniruddha in the city, you went with the women of the Yadu clan to the holy place called Samantapanchaka.

Bahutarajanatahitaya tatra tvamapi punarvinimajjya tirthatoyam, dvijaganaparimuktavittarashih samamilathah kurupandavadimitraih.

There, for the good of the people, you too bathed in the sacred water, gave heaps of wealth to the Brahmins, and met your friends, the Kurus, the Pandavas and others.

Tava khalu dayitajanaih sameta drupadasuta tvayi gadhabhaktibhara, taduditabhavadahritiprakarairatimumude samamanyabhaminibhih.

Draupadi, deeply devoted to you, met your queens and, with the other women, was delighted to hear from them how you had won each of them.

Tadanu cha bhagavan nirikshya gopanatikutukadupagamya manayitva, chirataravirahaturangarekhah pashupavadhuh sarasam tvamanvayasih.

Then, Lord, seeing the cowherds, you hurried to them eagerly and honoured them, and lovingly sought out the cowherd women, grown thin from long separation.

Sapadi cha bhavadikshanotsavena pramushitamanahridam nitambininam, atirasaparimuktakanchulike parichayahridyatare kuche nyalaishih.

At once, as the joy of seeing you swept away the hurt pride in their hearts, you held them close to your heart with overflowing love.

Ripujanakalahaih punah punarme samupagatairiyati vilambanabhut, iti kritaparirambhane tvayi dragativivasha khalu radhika nililye.

‘Battles with enemies, one after another, caused this long delay,’ you said as you embraced her, and Radha, overwhelmed, melted into your arms.

Apagatavirahavyathastada ta rahasi vidhaya dadatha tattvabodham, paramasukhachidatmakohamatmetyudayatu vah sphutameva chetasiti.

When their pain of separation had gone, you took them aside and taught them the truth: ‘May it shine clearly in your minds that I am the Self, made of supreme joy and consciousness.’

Sukharasaparimishrito viyogah kimapi purabhavaduddhavopadeshaih, samabhavadamutah param tu tasam paramasukhaikyamayi bhavadvichinta.

Before, through Uddhava’s teaching, their separation had been touched with some sweetness; but from then on, their thoughts of you became the supreme joy of oneness.

Munivaranivahaistavatha pitra duritashamaya shubhani prichchhyamanaih, tvayi sati kimidam shubhantarairityuruhasitairapi yajitastadasau.

Your father asked the great sages for rites to remove sin; they laughed heartily, ‘With him beside you, why seek other blessings?’ Even so, they had him perform a sacrifice.

Sumahati yajane vitayamane pramuditamitrajane sahaiva gopah, yadujanamahitastrimasamatram bhavadanushangarasam pureva bhejuh.

As the great sacrifice went on and friends rejoiced, the cowherds too, honoured by the Yadavas, enjoyed your company for three months, just as before.

Vyapagamasamaye sametya radham dridhamupaguhya nirikshya vitakhedam, pramuditahridayah puram prayatah pavanapureshvara pahi mam gadebhyah.

At parting, you went to Radha, held her tightly, saw her free of sorrow, and went back to your city with a happy heart. O Lord of Guruvayur, protect me from illness.
